Family Action & the Role’s Impact:
At Family Action we support people through change, challenge or crisis. It’s what we’ve done for over 150 years. We protect children, support young people and adults and offer direct, practical help to families and communities.
We see first-hand the power of family to shape lives, for better or worse, so we speak up for the
importance of family in national and local policymaking, amplify family voices and represent the changing needs of families in the UK today.
This is an exciting opportunity for a therapist who wants to make a difference to the lives of children and young people, 11yrs to 25yrs, of African, Caribbean heritage in City and Hackney
Young black people disproportionately report inequality, racism and discrimination on a routine basis. Many ACH children, young people and families are succeeding in Hackney, however young people from ethnic minority communities are over-represented in terms of child protection plans, looked after children and school exclusions and inequalities in health. If you feel passionate about making a difference in this area we would like to hear from you.
Our Growing Minds Service provides practical, emotional and mental health wellbeing support to children and young people aged 11-25 from African and Caribbean Heritage (ACH) communities; focusing on two key transition points in their lives (primary to secondary school and childhood to adulthood). The service is designed to increase the capacity of ACH communities to harness potential, identify and support children and young people’s mental health needs, and to establish a clear pathway into direct support.
We are seeking candidates from African and Caribbean Heritage in order to reach out to children, young people and young adults in these communities. The Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 applies.
Main responsibilities

You will also undertake associated case management and administrative work. You will be required to offer evening sessions until 8pm at least one evening a week (on Monday or Thursday) as part of your working hours and there is also the potential to develop and facilitate group work.
Main Requirements
As a Psychotherapist/ Creative Art Psychotherapist/Counsellor with relevant post qualification practice you will work collaboratively community organisations/CAMHS and other partners to reduce barriers to mental health support to children, young people and young adults from the ACH community. You will work with young people on a 1:1 basis, with parent/carers during assessment, and group work. You will undertake holistic assessments, and hold a caseload providing outcome focussed interventions that support resilience and emotional wellbeing. In addition you will be knowledgeable about the wider health determinants which impact on ACH communities and barriers for children, young people and young adults achieving positive outcomes. You will be a warm, empathic individual with an ability to relate to young people and work as part of a team.
We are committed to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion in all that we do and welcome applications from all sections of the community. We particularly welcome applications from male candidates, LGBTQIA+ candidates and candidates with disabilities because we are committed to increasing the representation of these groups at Family Action. We support our members along their digital transformation journey. The goal is to ensure a seamless flow of sustainability and compliance data from producing enterprises to the market and to leverage this data to create incentives and benefits for those at the start of the supply chain. To date, we have focused on building the foundations for robust data governance and management, strengthening their capacity to leverage data for insights, and supporting standardisation of core certificate data. In this next strategic phase, we’re doubling down on data and technology as a strategic priority and are committed to build a more ambitious support programme focused on leveraging technology and AI.
The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of and experience with data management, and in supporting digital transformation projects within complex data ecosystems. They will be confident in engaging data practitioners from across our membership, and in facilitating peer learning on technical topics like data standardisation, interoperability, analytics and data management. Prior experience and understanding of certification, audit and sustainability performance data is an important asset.
