EduSpots is an innovative, dynamic, and community-driven UK and Ghanaian registered charity which connects, trains, and equips voluntary community educators to drive community-led change through education spaces named ‘Spots’. Our vision is of our world where communities unite to create the futures they want to see, through education.

Since 2016, through collaborating extensively with over 250 local volunteers, who take a central leadership role in the development of the network, we have supported 50 communities in creating and running community-led and owned education spaces named ‘Spots’, with a strategy to support them in moving towards our ‘Dream Spot Model’. Together, we are developing a model for a community-led education space with accompanying network engagement that could have relevance in settings across the world. 

Our Ghana-based programmes team creates collaborative learning opportunities through three leadership programmes for volunteers: the Ignite, Catalyse and Peer Mentoring Programmes. These enable them to lead EduLit, EduSTEM, EduKidz and Ignite Equity clubs, alongside locally designed education projects, reaching over 10,000 students of all ages annually. In 2024, we are launching our new Catalyse Leadership Programme, alongside developing an EduSpots app to enhance data management and programme management at the community level, alongside a wider digitalisation process through the distribution of tablets across the network.

About this role

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic fundraising professional, with a proven track record of income generation and a strong ability to develop impactful relationships with the skills to bring aligned individuals and organisations into our long-term EduSpots community. The post holder will be creative, passionate and self-motivated, with strong marketing and communications skills, able to design and implement strategic fundraising approaches. 

In this role, you will take on responsibility for identifying, creating and delivering impactful fundraising strategies that enable us to generate further relationships and income in support of our programmes. 

You will oversee the development of our individual giving and monthly giving strategies and further develop relationships with schools, corporate organisations and NGOs, with a focus on resource acquisition (e.g. books, electronic devices) alongside fundraising. You will also play a supportive role in events and campaigns, and work closely with our Head of Communications to ensure our marketing and communications strategy is integrated with our fundraising aims. Currently, we already have a trusts and foundations manager, but would welcome applicants with experience of trust fundraising.

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

The key responsibilities of this role are to:

• Develop our individual giving and monthly giving strategies, including:

  • Ensuring we have the right tools in place.

  • Strengthening thanking and communications to existing supporters.

  • Trialling new strategies for outreach to new audiences.

• Organise occasional fundraising events (e.g. face-to-face events in London; virtual events and fundraising challenges).

• Support organisation and delivery of appeals and campaigns (e.g. the Big Give).

• Support the development of impactful relationships with schools, universities, corporates and NGOs for fundraising and resource acquisition (e.g. books, digital devices, science equipment). 

• If time and experience, possibly support grant applications. 

• Line manage, and provide support to, the intern/s (fundraising). 

Other

• Ensure all administrative tasks relating to the role are carried out accurately.

• To comply at all times with the organisation's policies, procedures and performance expectations of staff as set out in the Staff and Volunteers Handbook.

• To ensure compliance with data protection legislation.

• Any other duties as may be reasonably required under the role.

Skills, Experience and Attributes

Essential

• Proven track record of successful income generation from individuals or communities - ideally in a similar education / international development organisation 

• Experience of developing and maintaining successful income generating relationships (e.g. with schools, corporates, individuals, communities)

• Experience of digital marketing to engage new charity supporters / donors (including using paid advertising and innovative engagement techniques)

• Experience of email marketing and donor conversion strategies

• Strong communication and marketing skills, ideally with basic design skills (Canva)

• Ability to work effectively in a remote based role with minimal day-to-day support 

• Outstanding interpersonal skills 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

• Ability to use own initiative and work to tight and competing deadlines

• Ability to effectively manage workload and prioritise tasks 

• Good IT skills - Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Canva, Social Media

Desirable

• Experience of writing compelling and successful funding proposals 

• Experience of managing and reporting to funders

Purpose of the job

To be responsible for the successful delivery of ELBA’s Dragon Award Nominated Evolve Project, delivering exciting, innovative employer-supported volunteering projects that meet the expectations of specific corporate supporters, and the needs of the community with a key geographical focus in Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Haringey.

About Evolve

The Evolve Project is a collaborative partnership between Linklaters, UBS, Societe Generale and the Societe Generale UK Foundation, delivered by ELBA. Overall, the Evolve project aims to address the wider barriers and challenges faced in society & by community organisations & charities with a particular focus on Hackney and its surrounding boroughs of Tower Hamlets & Haringey. The project does this through supporting community organisations who are addressing different barriers like post Covid recovery, and the cost-of-living crisis, alongside continuing challenges of funding & sustainability.

Evolve aims to build the capacity of thee organisations, especially supporting the leadership, so they can keep up with the increased demand they are experiencing. Evolve has been designed to dynamically respond to the changing needs of local community organisations, drawing on the time, skills and expertise of employee volunteers to address the most pressing community challenges. The project is currently in its fourth year with funding secured for the following two years.

The role requires an ability to build a close and collaborative relationship across the community sector, particularly in Hackney, as well as with the corporate funders. A key focus is developing and delivering a range of exciting employee volunteering activities (including the Leaders in Partnership and Emerging Leaders coaching programmes) as well as leading monthly delivery and quarterly steering group meetings with the three business partners to ensure volunteer engagement and session development is meeting the aims and objectives of the project.

The post will be managed by the Head of Programme, Connect which sits within the Community Works programme at ELBA. The post holder will have weekly one-to-one meetings for input and guidance to achieve agreed targets and will be subject to annual performance appraisals.

Job Description

Key Evolve duties

● Responsible for day-to-day development and delivery of the Evolve project

● Collaborate closely with community partners, corporate partners and the ELBA team to understand community needs and design appropriate employee volunteering activities to address these needs

● Deliver a range of employee volunteering opportunities focused on capacity building for local community organisations within the geographical remit

● Build and maintain strong relationships with Evolve partners’ Corporate Responsibility teams by organising regular meetings and responding promptly to company requests

● Develop and promote a range of employee volunteering opportunities to corporate partners and manage delivery of volunteer requests

● Organise delivery of monthly delivery meetings and quarterly project steering group meetings including preparation of supporting documents and minute taking

● Achieve good delivery targets of employee volunteers engaged and beneficiaries supported

● Maintain strong impact reporting for the project and long-term tracking

Main duties

● Build effective working relationships with ELBA corporate partner organisations to understand their business and functions, culture and priorities, generate opportunities suitable for their employees, manage expectations and deliver on activities in support of programme and project goals and objectives

● Identify and build relationships with a range of community stakeholders, including charities, community groups, social enterprises and grassroots organisations

● Assess organisational needs and develop creative corporate volunteering opportunities to meet the needs and build the capacity of community stakeholders

● Source, place, train and manage cohorts of corporate volunteers in line with business plan and project targets

● Identify a range of corporate volunteering opportunities that can facilitate large-scale participation and/or collaboration for ELBA corporate partners

● Generate regular communication items such as an annual report, programme impact reports, articles, write awards nominations and case studies and maximise the use of social media platforms

● Work with the Community team to ensure programme materials are kept up to date

● Implement effective evaluation and impact measurement tools in line with ELBA corporate partner requirements, ensuring that evaluation informs best practices to ensure continuous improvement

General

● Adhere to ELBA’s safeguarding policies and procedures at all times

● Develop a broad knowledge of regeneration programmes and local authority priorities in east London and specific geographical area

● Support the wider Community team with the planning and delivery of key events

● Support Connect Head of Programme to align Evolve’s offering with the wider Connect programme

● Use ELBA internal systems to maintain records and report progress, including due diligence and volunteer recording via Salesforce within set timescales

● Ensure that effective project management systems for monitoring and evaluation are in place and keep detailed records

● Complete monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required

● Proactively generate case studies, news articles, photos and social media content to promote the work of ELBA in line with ELBA communication targets and protocols

● Collaborate with other ELBA colleagues on projects where appropriate, and contribute to the development of ELBA as an organisation overall

About the Role:

As one of our Communications Managers you will employ strategic, insight-driven and creative approaches to communicate WaterAid's impact and engage target audiences in WaterAid's mission. In this role you will develop communications strategies which helps WaterAid maximise brand-reach and income-raising potential and lead cross-functional teams to execute them.

You'll also: 

• Specialise in the development of bespoke activity for key partnerships and private sector audiences, in close consultation with external partners.
• Champion on-brand messaging and creative which resonates with target audiences.
• Own and be responsible for the development of Strategic Communications Frameworks, which enable multi-disciplinary teams to work cohesively and effectively.
• Develop effective working relationships with colleagues across all directorates, fostering an environment of collaboration and when appropriate, challenging to deliver the highest quality work.
• Advise best use of communications budget to achieve set objectives.
• Commission and/or utilise insight to inform communications plans.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of communications activity, fostering a proactive and positive approach to learning and improvement within delivery teams.

About You:

• Education to a degree level or equivalent work experience.
• Demonstrable experience in developing, leading and executing high quality, effective communications strategies that achieve desired results.
• Experience in designing communications campaigns for a range of target audiences and advising on optimum distribution channels to reach them.
• Experience working in, or in partnership with, the private sector, with a sound understanding of corporate social responsibility and sustainability.
• Excellent time management skills, able to prioritise work across multiple projects to meet deadline.
• Ability to generate and develop creative and innovative ideas, with a good eye for brand, design, film and photography.

Although not essential, we also prefer you to have:

• Experience of international development issues and/or working in the voluntary sector in a communications role.
• An understanding of the ethical issues surrounding communications for international development.

 About the Role

The Africa Death Penalty Team Project Manager is responsible for coordinating Reprieve’s litigation and advocacy in Sub-Saharan Africa. At the moment, the team works on death penalty casework and abolition advocacy in Malawi, Tanzania, and Kenya. Our casework includes work on individual cases on behalf of people facing a death sentence; large-scale projects, such as the Kenya resentencing project, wherein we support stakeholders to ensure 5,000+ people are able to access a chance at reducing their sentence from death via a new sentence hearing; and  long-term regional projects, such as our strategic litigation before the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, which challenges the mandatory death penalty, torture, and other associated violations of the African Charter.

Regional context

 There is a trend toward the abolition of the death penalty in Africa. In recent years, countries across the continent have taken the decision to limit the application of the death penalty or to abolish it altogether. This has been seen as a turning away from old laws and systems that were imposed by former colonial governments, which obstructed alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, and were designed to remove discretion from the local judiciary. African lawyers and judges are now at the forefront of a wave of progressive jurisprudence on issues related to the death penalty including methods of executions, torture, sentencing practice, conditions of confinement, and intersections of gender, disability, and socioeconomic status with criminal justice. This jurisprudence has become a model for the international movement to limit the death penalty, and is being held up as best practice in jurisdictions around the world.

Contract and location

This is a full-time, permanent role based in Reprieve’s London office. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model with staff working part of the week from home and part of the week from the office. Applicants must have the current right to work in the UK, which will be checked prior to interview.

About the role

As we continue to build on the successes achieved over the last 3 years, Gresham College is seeking a new Head of Fundraising and Engagement, who will be responsible for driving income generation for the College and for engaging our audiences through traditional and digital means.

The Head of Fundraising and Engagement will play the central role in continuing to draw new forms of income to support the College’s educational mission. You will lead on a portfolio of income-generating activities, including individual giving and legacies, corporate sponsorship, events, trusts and foundations, business development, venue hire and collaborative partnerships.

You will build on the success of the 6.5 million annual views of our YouTube channel to generate income from small donations and memberships, as well as play the lead role in growing relationships with high-net-worth individuals and corporations.

As Head of Fundraising and Engagement, you will have responsibility for the College’s wider profile and engagement, in owned, earned and paid-for media, including traditional and digital channels.

You will be responsible for brand management and development, including management of the College’s online and PR presence to grow our profile and reputation.

The Head of Fundraising and Engagement will line manage a team of four.

Who we are looking for

You will have a track record of success in raising income in a charity environment, alongside knowledge of the requirements of the fundraising regulator and best practice in the sector.

You will bring experience of working across a range of income generation areas and activities, including membership, HNWIs, corporate, and trusts and foundations. It is essential that candidates demonstrate their ability to identify, build and maintain strong donor, sponsor and supporter relationships. You should also be familiar with managing engagement and communications programmes, particularly through digital means.

Candidates should bring experience of managing individuals or teams focused on income generation within a relevant setting and be able to demonstrate the impact of their leadership through the achievement of successful income generation activities.
