Connect: North Korea is a fast-growing charity supporting North Korean escapees to build new lives after experiences of systemic discrimination, poverty, and trauma.

Our organisational income has grown consistently year on year since we registered in 2018. We now have a series of multi-year grants in place ensuring that 42% of our income for 2026 is already secured. We are looking to recruit a dynamic Head of Fundraising to lead and deliver income generation as we scale our work in the UK and globally.

This is a rare opportunity to work closely with the CEO and across programme teams to map out our annual fundraising plan, craft compelling cases for support, develop funder relationships, with an aim to securing our funding base year on year. 

Position: Head of Fundraising

Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer

Based at: Our offices in New Malden KT3 with some remote/home working. We will be as flexible as possible to accommodate the right candidate.

Contract: Permanent. Part-time (3 days a week). Flexible hours/days possible.

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 FTE + 5% eligible pension 

Benefits: 28 days holidays exclusive of public holidays pro-rata. We also offer 2 additional days on top of this – 1 recharge day where the whole charity closes and 1 day in the week of a staff member’s birthday.

Role objective

Lead our efforts to grow and diversify CNK’s income across individual giving, trusts and foundations, corporate partnerships, and community fundraising. Diversity our income base by increasing our unrestricted income, ensure organisational sustainability by securing multi-year grants and growing individual and corporate donations and grow our annual income by identifying and building relationships with new donor

• Develop our annual organisational fundraising strategy and fundraising action plan;

• Lead and coordinate all CNK fundraising activity from Trusts and Foundations, corporates and individual supporters;
• Build relationships with major donors, corporates, charitable Trusts and Foundations and other institutional funders;
• Ensure all fundraising meets the Code of Fundraising Practice, safeguarding standards, GDPR compliant and CNK’s values; and
• Report quarterly on fundraising progress to Chief Executive and Board of Trustees

About the role

The Director of Fundraising will play a pivotal role in driving income growth and ensuring the long-term sustainability of King's Trust International. Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, you will provide strategic leadership across all fundraising activity, nurturing an exceptional team and leveraging high-level networks across the King's Trust Group globally.

A growing number of companies and financial institutions are seeking to mitigate their impacts on nature. We hold to account through our Forest 500 project, assessing the policies and performance of influential companies and financial institutions. We also support financial institutions and investors with our suite of Deforestation-free Finance Guidance and a forthcoming new tool, DEFT Pathway, to support effective engagement with high-risk companies. We support the finance sector, policy makers and other stakeholders by providing market-leading data on deforestation and ESG metrics through Forest IQ. 

Role overview

An exciting opportunity for a creative and highly motivated candidate with strong technical expertise to help increase Global Canopy's impact by making world-leading environmental and financial data more accessible to our key audiences in the finance sector, business and civil society. 

The role will focus on the DEFT Pathway and related products. DEFT is a transparent, easy-to-use framework that maps out practical steps for companies to transition to deforestation-free supply chains. Hosted by best-in-class data platform Forest IQ, DEFT Pathway helps financial institutions to engage effectively with companies on deforestation. 

A key objective is to make the DEFT Pathway data accessible by building user-friendly frontend components. The data is complex and multi-dimensional and will require considerable creativity to communicate in an understandable and compelling way in order to maximise its impact. You will collaborate with designers, researchers and product managers to fulfill these aims.

As a full stack developer, you will also design and implement the backend to allow the data powering the visualisations to be accessed in a secure way. You will work with data engineers and researchers to ensure the database is well-structured and that queries are performant.

The tech team is small, so you will need to operate with a high degree of independence, and will have the opportunity to influence key technical decisions. We are looking for someone who finds this prospect exciting rather than daunting! 

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, these are the things that will matter the most: 

• Excellent full stack web development skills, ideally using python and typescript
• Knowledge of python frameworks for the backend, such as FastAPI, Flask and/or Django
• Knowledge of javascript frameworks for the frontend (preferably React/Next.js), and common data visualisation libraries such as d3
• Experience querying PostgreSQL databases, potentially using SQLAlchemy as an ORM
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS

Essential behavioural competencies: 

• Self-starter, happy working in a small team with a large degree of independence
• A keen eye for quality, and an appreciation of the importance of automated testing
• A desire to follow industry standard software development processes

Desirable:

• 3+ years experience

Benefits

Salary: £60K full-time equivalent. This role sits within Band C on Global Canopy’s remuneration framework.
Nature of contract: Full time (37.5 hours) or part time (30 hours, 0.8 FTE). Fixed term for 21 months (approximately the end of 2027). We are a flexible employer and welcome candidates wishing to work flexibly.
Base: Our office is in Oxford, UK with flexible home-working arrangements in place.

Key responsibilities include leading HR strategy—covering recruitment, workforce development, staff wellbeing, inclusion, and compliance—and overseeing quality assurance, clinical governance, and safeguarding to ensure robust risk management and continuous improvement.

The role also leads the development of outcome measurement frameworks, promotes data-driven decision-making, and collaborates with operational leaders to support service innovation and performance. This role is home based, however as you are leading remote teams across the country, very regular travel to EF sites/offices will be required.

About you

You will have proven senior leadership experience in HR (ideally at Head of HR or Director level) in the voluntary, housing, health, or social care sector. You should also have:

• Level 7 CIPD Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management or equivalent, plus relevant experience
• Strategic understanding of workforce, service delivery, and governance issues in substance use, homelessness, or complex needs sectors
• Demonstrated success in embedding quality and assurance frameworks across complex, dispersed services.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding, regulatory compliance, risk management, and performance improvement frameworks.
• Track record of driving organisational culture change and operational excellence.

Job Purpose

A. Corporate Partnerships, Fundraising & Volunteering

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To develop, implement and evaluate the Banter Project youth service in partnership with adopted young people in Northern Ireland.  These young people range in age from 14-25 years and live throughout Northern Ireland.  The role will primarily work with the project participants, but has additional relationships with community organisations, educational establishments and employers to ensure that all project goals and outcomes are efficiently and effectively met.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• To lead the development and delivery of all elements of the Banter Project adopted young people’s service within Northern Ireland in a fun, interactive, interesting and an ability appropriate manner.

• To support the project participants to play an active role in the design and implementation of a programme of monthly activities for adopted young people. Sustaining and developing a monthly social hub, supporting the development of basic life-skills, and preparation for opportunities in further education, training, employment.

• To support a Youth Advisory Group (YAG) in its role to enable adopted young people to steer the Banter Project while developing skills which promote independence, personal development, social and life skills, leadership, and community involvement.

• To organise and supervise the work of the Youth Services Support Worker to deliver the Banter Project. 

• To provide opportunities to connect with, and signpost to, relevant services, particularly those who work with care experienced young people.

• To develop and implement robust monitoring and evaluation to review individual goals, track progress and impact, via data and analysis of outcomes to assess effectiveness and areas for improvement.

You will provide operational support to the team, help maximise revenue and deliver impactful environmental programmes. • Conduct research into potential trusts and foundations and corporate partners, including horizon scanning reports.

• Assist in writing and proofreading funding proposals and applications, alongside the Trusts and Foundations Manager and the Business Development Manager.

• Independently write smaller bids and funding requests. 

Individual Giving & Partnerships 

• Support the Individual Giving Manager with campaigns including direct debits, one-off donations, marathon fundraising, and legacies. 

• Assist the Partnership Development Manager with research and building strategic relationships with local authorities and project sites. 

CRM & Administration 

• Maintain and update contact records in our CRM system (Microsoft Dynamics 365). 

• Respond to emails in the Fundraising and Development inboxes. 

• Monitor and report on team progress against objectives and KPIs. 

• Provide general administrative support to the Income Generation team. 

Collaboration & Communication 

• Build strong relationships internally to understand Earthwatch’s work and articulate it in compelling cases for support.
