The communications specialists in the PCS campaigns and communications team are dedicated to delivering the most up to date services for our members. We are looking for a Head of Communications to lead the team, using up to date tech, design systems and social media engagement to provide the best communications at all times for a diverse audience.
Salary and Location
- Band 5, London Spine points 21-17 or Regional Spine points 23-19
- Starting salary: London £63,279 p.a. rising to £72,098 p.a. or Regional £58,877 p.a. rising to £67,689, in annual increments

Successful candidates for the post of Head of Communications will be able to demonstrate:
- Professional experience of working in a communications field
- Problem-solving ability in crisis or challenging situations
- Understanding of different communications media and how to use them effectively
- An interest in developing communications technology
- A record of positive collaboration, building strong working relationships
The main duties of the Head of Communications role include:
- Leading on internal and external communications strategies that align with the union's overall goals
- Maintaining quality of all communications, ensuring consistent and positive messaging to promote the aims and objectives of the union
- Motivational management and development of the team
- Liaising with departmental heads, senior lay officials and other colleagues on a range of communications
- Budget management, bid preparation and liaising with suppliers
Excellent people skills combined with problem-solving ability and an understanding of up to date communications technology will all be essential requirements for a successful Head of Communications.

Purpose of the job:
Develop, lead, implement, and ensure internal and external communications strategies are maintained and in line with PCS policy.
Lead on the strategic direction of the unions communications and oversee delivery, digital strategy, membership engagement and internal communications.
To advise and work alongside the National Management Team, National Executive Committee and partners to devise and implement communications campaigns and projects.
To assist in maximising the potential for union growth, development and success, and to encourage membership participation through robust communication strategies.
To undertake a management role with direct responsibility for staff ensuring that the work of the communications team is in line with the wider objectives of the union.

Main duties and responsibilities
1. Key areas
- Lead on, develop and implement internal and external communication strategies that align with the union's overall goals
- Create and oversee communication materials such as the creation of promotional and informative materials, digital campaigns, print materials, social media, audio and video
- Conduct quality controls on all communications, ensuring that all union communications and materials have consistent and positive messaging and branding
- Responding to crises or challenging situations quickly and professionally
- Contribute to the strategic development of the Unions policy objectives including the PCS planning process
- Provide support and have direct involvement through the National Management Team (NMT) in the unions bargaining, organising, campaigning, equality, learning and digital agendas
- Manage people and resources in the communications team
- Represent PCS at external meetings
- Provide advice to and lead relevant committees including the preparation and presentation of reports
- Monitor and report on issues and initiatives as requested
- Provide input into budgetary processes including bid preparation, monitoring and control where relevant
2. People Management
- Manage work allocation and workflow, future planning and support for officer team/line manager
- Motivate and manage individuals and the team as a whole to provide a high standard of service
- Check work standards and maintain consistent quality of delegated tasks
- Seek to continuously improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the team
- Through induction, the appraisal system and one-to-ones, identify staff training and development needs, train or organise formal/informal training

As the Supporter Engagement & Legacy Manager you will play a key role as we seek to reignite our legacy marketing programme and grow overall individual giving income to help ensure long-term support for those facing financial difficulty. You will be responsible for the project management and implementation of all supporter engagement activity, acquisition, and legacy marketing activities, ensuring all activity is optimised and campaigns include enhanced digital and social media content.
Reporting to the Co-Heads of Supporter Engagement and managing the Supporter Engagement Officer, you will develop a multi-year plan to rebuild legacy income and a pipeline of legacy supporters, including re-engaging the EFH care home staff and major donors.
You will be responsible for supporting the strategic direction, operational plans and effective management of Turn2us’s giving programmes from individuals including appeals, regular giving and legacies, maximising net income from new and existing income streams.
The successful candidate will have experience of managing direct marketing campaigns in a charity environment as well as proven ability to manage successful legacy marketing campaigns. They will have significant experience stewarding individuals and legacy supporters and be adept at communicating the impact of donations, as well as having line management experience. The ability to make a strong case for supporting Turn2us’ key areas of work is crucial, as is an aptitude for proactively increasing acquisition and retention rates.
The post holder will also be a self-starter who is comfortable building new strategies from a relatively small pool of supporters and is experienced testing different tactics to establish the best practice for Turn2us.

Salary
The spot salary for the Welfare and Digital Inclusion Partner post is £36,162 per annum for applicants who fully meet the requirements of the post. Applicants, who do not meet all the requirements of the post, will start 5% or 10% below the spot salary.
You'll also receive £2,893 per annum regional allowance and £1,250 per annum essential car user allowance.

Senior Personal Safety Assessor

Age UK Croydon’s very successful Personal Safety Project (Falls Prevention) for older people in Croydon is recruiting a new Senior Personal Safety Assessor. If you are an enthusiastic, passionate and organised individual, this could be the role for you.
Our Personal Safety Project (PSP) is a free service which aims to help older people who have fallen or are at risk of falling at home. The service is available to anyone aged 50 and over who lives in the borough of Croydon.
Our trained assessors carry out a comprehensive risk assessment to identify potential causes of falls and hazards in the home and can arrange for stair rails, grab handles and other necessary aids and adaptations to be supplied and/or fitted, free of charge. The project can provide ongoing telephone support for up to six weeks to monitor the risk of further falls post engagement.

Our Youth and Play Practitioners will play a pivotal role in the Children, Young People and Families team, working as a core team of practitioners to ensure the smooth running of our programmes and services. In this role you will be part of a small and dynamic team which delivers a wide range of programmes and activities, both from Tulse Hill Adventure Playground and within local schools. The work of the Children, Young People and Families team is diverse and varied. Our current services include open access adventure play and youth activities at our Adventure Playground, school holiday programmes with off-site trips and activities, coaching in local schools, a Young Leaders programme offering paid work experience to young people, and working together with our youth partnerships Building Young Brixton and Lambeth Peer Action Collective.
We are in an exciting time of development for the team. To support our range of children and young people, our team will be made up of specialist Youth Workers and Play Practitioners bringing in relevant skills and experience. Whilst you will work across all of our Children, Young People and Families services you will have a specific focus:
As a Youth Worker you will:
- Focus on supporting our secondary age cohort
- Plan and run appropriate activities
- Provide structured interventions to support vulnerable young people
- Work with referral partners to provide additional support and activities
As a Play Worker you will:
- Focus on our primary age cohort
- Use your knowledge of Playwork Principles to plan and run engaging activities
- Foster relationships with families and local primary schools
Both roles will include an element of mentoring, relevant training will be provided to give you the necessary skills to deliver this.
To be successful in this role, you will act as a trusted practitioner in all our service delivery, advocating for children’s right to play throughout our programmes. You will work as part of the team on the delivery and planning of all sessions, ensuring that the children’s and young people’s ideas are central to the construction of a varied and engaging play environment. You will understand the wide-ranging challenges facing young people and will be flexible in adjusting your practice to meet these needs.
