Job Purpose

The Trailblazer Lead is an exciting and important role that leads delivery of Babbasa’s Trailblazer Programme - a brand new programme to support the continued professional and personal development of Babbasa’s alumni of young people who have been through our programmes (called ‘Trailblazers’). One of the core aims of the programme is to promote underrepresented young people’s voices in spaces of influence, and to positively shape policy and decision making to better ensure young people’s needs and interests from across the city are represented. 

The Trailblazer Lead will achieve this by organising and coordinating activities to support Trailblazers’ professional and personal development, from skills training and workshops, to 1:1 support, to brokering access to resources, spaces, and incentives to support their growth. Alongside this you will be working across the entire team to broker leadership and influencing opportunities for the Trailblazers and supporting them to engage with these from board positions, to speaking engagements, to engagement in research, alongside other influencing activities. The other arm of the programme involves supporting Trailblazers to engage in activities to support other young people and their local communitie, from outreach engagements, to peer mentoring, to leading and delivering their own youth projects. The Trailblazer programme is a groundbreaking programme in Bristol designed to tangibly support young people to tangibly engage in and lead on influence making and policy shaping, in a way that also supports their personal professional ambitions. 

Role Specific Responsibilities

• Design and deliver outreach engagements to young people in education and community settings aimed at raising awareness of Babbasa’s services, and increasing young people’s sense of confidence, belonging and empowerment.
• Coordinate a programme of skills sessions, training, and workshops tailored to the needs and interests of the Trailblazers, seeking regular feedback on activities from the Trailblazers, and ensuring successful delivery.
• Build a trusting relationship (based on Babbasa values) with young people engaged - to ensure we meet their progression outcome and identify/address any health and safety, disability, equality, concerns or welfare issues.
• With the support of the Babbasa team broker and coordinate leadership and influencing activities for the Trailblazers such as engagement in youth projects and programmes, research projects, access to positions of influence (e.g. board membership), and other Continued Professional Development opportunities.
• Support Trailblazers to engage and successfully influence businesses, statutory bodies, city wide voluntary organisations, and local or national government to advocate for the needs and views of young people from their communities.
• Provide personalised 1:1 support and coaching to our Trailblazers ranging from careers support (e.g. support with job applications and interview skills), to wider professional and personal development goals (e.g. applying for training, attending industry or city-wide events, applying for volunteer roles, finding shadowing opportunities etc.)
• Coordinate and work with the services team to identify potential Trailblazer candidates and onboard them to the programme.
• Monitor and evaluate each of the core elements of the Trailblazer programme, track individual progress including longer term outcomes, and assist to produce monthly reports on activity and impact as well as a bi-annual report to the funder (with the support of the Head of Impact and Fundraising Lead).
• Successfully engage a wide variety of stakeholders at all levels in the Trailblazer Programme and effectively steward those relationships to create strong buy-in to the programme and Babbasas’s wider mission. 

General Responsibilities

• Ensure young peoples’ comments, voices and suggestions are at the heart of service delivery and respond to their needs.
• Ensure internal administrative tasks and reports are completed in a timely and accurate manner as required by Babbasa and the activity funder.
• Deliver support, information, and guidance to young people using best practice, referring them to specialist help when required.

• To attend and take part in all core Babbasa meetings.
• Contribute positively as part of a delivery team, as well as part of a wider business team, to deliver business objectives.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience - essential 

You build trusting relationships with young people - you have proven experience working with young people aged 15-30 from a wide range of backgrounds. You have a strong sense of professional boundaries and understand how to engage with young people in a way that makes them feel safe, and supported. You have experience delivering information and guidance to young people using best practice including referring to specialist help where needed. You have a strong understanding of the barriers under-represented or marginalised young people might face in realising their aspirations. You understand safeguarding policies and procedures, and are able to assess young people’s needs and challenges, making appropriate referrals where needed.

You’re aligned with our mission - You have lived experience and/or an understanding of the critical issues surrounding equality, inclusion and diversity, including structural issues around race and class, and how they impact young people within the communities that Babbasa serves. You are passionate about securing the best possible opportunities and life outcomes for young people and believe that with the right support, everyone has the potential to achieve.

You can deliver effectively - you have experience designing, delivering and evaluating a variety of youth programmes and projects, including activities to build and embed youth voice. You understand the barriers that young people from marginalised and underrepresented backgrounds face when pursuing their aspirations and have developed effective interventions to support young people from these backgrounds toward their chosen outcome. You have good working knowledge of careers information and guidance, as well as pathways to further and higher education and are able to deliver effective support and guidance to young people, referring to specialist support where needed.

Fundraising Officer (Trusts and Foundations)

We are looking for a proactive, highly organised individual to join Young Enterprise as part of our National Fundraising team.

About the role

We invite you to join an impactful and collaborative fundraising team, working in a driven and supportive environment, which places personal development at its core to ensure team members thrive. 

Working with the Senior Relationship Manager and the Philanthropy Team, you will contribute to an annual budget of £4.3m and raise income from Trusts and Foundations and small statutory income streams, utilising your income generating and communication skills. You will also undertake prospect research, as well as developing compelling project updates and reports to inspire supporters.

 We are looking for:

The successful candidate will have a track record of generating income from Trust and Foundations, particularly securing income £10k upwards.

• You’ll be experienced in writing engaging applications and inspiring reports, with a meticulous eye for detail in this, as well as strong grant management and stewardship of supporters.
• You’ll have a successful track record of building strong internal and external relationships, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. You’ll demonstrate a solution-focused attitude to problem-solving, monitoring the progress of funded projects in line with funder expectations.
• A tenacious self-starter with a can-do attitude is essential to enthuse existing and prospective supporters and to manage a varied workload of research, fundraising and grant management. 
• A strong team player with the ability to balance and prioritise competing demands in a busy team, you will have excellent organisational skills.

About First Step Trust (FST)

FST was established in 1994 with the aim of providing access to work experience and salaried employment for people with severe and enduring mental health problems and other disadvantages. Over the years we have managed to adapt our service offer to meet the ongoing changes in funder requirements. We have achieved this by extending our offer to a wider group of long term unemployed people to include a range of practical work and office based work and good quality training courses.

Our approach is about giving workforce members the chance to overcome some of the difficulties facing them by getting them involved as colleagues. We provide ‘on the job’ training, advice and support to enable each person to improve their basic skills and knowledge of the various work undertaken. This will include supporting workforce members to gain recognised qualifications and access to work placements with our customers and other organisations.

In the run up to the pandemic we had 4 garages and Abbevilles. During the pandemic we lost 3 garages due to the loss of trade (Salford), the ending of a lease (Lambeth) and an agreed early termination of the lease in Bexley. We also lost funding for the Lambeth project March 2023 when our contract came to an end.

In addition to the pandemic, funders have increasingly been looking for projects that get people into work and then offer support to help them stay in employment. The Individual Placement and Support (IPS) is the preferred model for most funders.

Whilst IPS has it benefits it is not suitable for the group of people FST works with due to the levels of literacy / numeracy, low self-esteem, low self-confidence and other factors including low level or no formal marketable skills to offer employers. The majority of the FST workforce have been unemployed anywhere from 5 to 10 years or more; 44% have never worked. We also know that most find it difficult to engage with more traditional forms of learning e.g. college, when they first join us. Prior to joining FST 55% of workforce members had achieved Level 1/Foundation or below (41% have none).

In practice this means that IPS is not suitable for them as the type of work they are eligible for (shelf stacking, warehouse work etc.) does not pay enough to make the transition from welfare benefits viable. Furthermore there is a genuine concern about not being able to return to the same level of benefits if they are unable to stay in work.

The welfare benefit trap is well known and our response has been to focus on developing people’s marketable skills across a range of practical and office / finance work.

In practice it can take 2 to 3 years or more to help people overcome the issues they face in learning new skills and overcoming the psychosocial issues alongside the fear of losing welfare benefits. The results of this approach, however, are impressive with a core group of people moving (sustainably) on to salaried employment with FST or externally. 

In more recent years we have shifted our focus to developing new ways of learning and accreditation using technology including Virtual Reality (VR) QR codes and other assistive technologies (SMaRT Pathways).  These programmes are aimed at helping the FST workforce gain the skills they need to access well paid employment in sectors where there are severe skills shortages e.g. the automotive trades, construction and catering.

In addition to SMaRT Pathways there is FST’s SMaRT garage services. Our social enterprise based in Woolwich which provides MOT testing, vehicle repair and servicing to both private and commercial customers. It also provides learning opportunities and work placements for workforce complementing SMaRT Pathways training. The garage also offers opportunities to gain work skills in reception, customer service, parts ordering and other relative administration tasks.

FST’s main office, also based in Woolwich, offers work skill opportunities in finance, marketing, training and general administration in addition to delivering short course training programmes.

We also run 3 work projects in secure units in the North West offering work experience in catering, car valeting and delivering training courses.

About the role

The General Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing all aspects of FST’s operations, including service delivery, human resources, outcomes governance and compliance, finance, and administrative functions.

Working closely with the CEO, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of our day-to-day operations across the organisation, while contributing to the strategic planning and growth of the organisation. 

Working closely with the CEO you will lead the day-to-day internal operations and business activities to ensure the smooth running of FST. You will act as a strong team leader, who motivates and inspires a small team, fostering and supporting the CEO to champion a positive organisational culture. 

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with sound experience in a range of management roles including direct line management and senior management.  FST is poised to grow and as we develop our capacity it is likely things will change and develop organically.  As such the General Manager will need to be flexible in their approach to overseeing this part of our growth. 

Whilst you don’t have to be an HR professional/expert or be qualified, we are looking for someone who has experience of managing staff in a supportive environment.  This means that you will have some understanding of managing staff within an HR framework, finance and budgeting, team dynamics and the FST philosophy 

We need someone who can demonstrate the ability to oversee the successful delivery of our services, both via funding contracts and our trading activities. You will also be involved in sourcing new business and the expansion of our existing customer base. 

You will come with flexibility and adaptability to navigate the unique challenges and opportunities faced by a small organisation. Whilst this is a strategic role there will be times when the situation demands direct action. This is particularly relevant when developing and supporting the people who use our services (workforce) to develop their skills, confidence and work ethic.

You will be a strong, hands on line manager with the experience to make things happen, along with the ability to think strategically with a track record of taking a project from inception to conclusion.

Main duties and responsibilities:

• Oversight and management of day to day operations of all FST activities including staff management and support, budgetary management, health and safety, training and development of the workforce.
• Under the direction of the CEO, implement FST strategies, plans and processes.
• Manage and monitor finances, analysing income and expenditure against project budgets and produce reports as required.
• Ensure our social enterprises are commercially viable without compromising on the values underpinning FST.
• Ensure services are delivered in line with service delivery agreements and in line with FST’s vision and philosophy
• Developing and maintaining good relations with local community organisations, funders and referring agencies.
• Managing and monitoring outcomes to ensure funding contract requirements are being met.

• Work in accordance within the limits and parameters as set out in FST’s policies and procedures, by the Board and CEO.

Programme Manager role

We are now looking for an enthusiastic and committed Programme Manager(s) to join our existing Programme Team in September 2024 on a full or part-time basis (6-month fixed-term with potential to extend).  As a Programme Manager, you will be responsible for managing the Yes Futures programmes in-person, in our partner primary and secondary schools in North London, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire & Buckinghamshire.

Main Responsibilities

You will be one of a small team of Programme Managers, dedicated to delivering excellent programmes which make a positive difference to the lives of students.  The main responsibilities of the Programme Manager role are:

Programme delivery

• Responsible for the care and wellbeing of all students in your schools on the programme;
• Communicating with parents where necessary during the programme, by email, letter and telephone;
• Planning and delivering whole-group workshops for students;
• Planning and delivering information and celebration events for students and parents;
• Facilitating the in-person and online volunteer coaching team to deliver student coaching sessions. As well as delivering coaching sessions to students, where required;
• Developing business and charity partnerships for day trips;
• Planning and delivering the day trips included in the programme;
• Supporting the planning and delivery of the Into the Wild and World of Work day trips;
• Implementing discipline procedures, including reporting serious discipline issues;
• Implementing all necessary Health and Safety and Child Protection procedures, including recording and reporting any incidents;
• Ongoing communication with the school and Yes Futures head office regarding student engagement and progress.

Organisation and administration

• School onboarding, including ensuring that dates are planned, students are recruited and parental agreements are returned;
• Planning and organising the logistical elements of the programme (timetables, activities, sessions plans etc) through liaising with Yes Futures head office, school staff, businesses, charitable organisations and the rest of the Coaching team;
• Creation of Risk Assessments, parent letters and programme-related documents for schools;
• Sourcing materials needed for programme sessions, including lunches for trips;
• Assisting with finance and petty cash where required.

Management of volunteer Yes Futures Coaches

• Managing and developing the skills of your Coaching teams (usually 2-6 adults per school);
• Ongoing communication with your Coaching teams, to foster their enthusiasm and commitment;
• Supporting Coach recruitment for future programmes;
• Supporting the planning and delivery of training for Coaches;
• Maintaining accurate and secure records of Coaches’ personal information, absences, sickness and other relevant information.

Evaluation and reporting

• Facilitating the pre-, mid- and end of programme evaluations;
• Oversight and input of key student monitoring data and impact data;
• Debriefing and ongoing feedback collection from schools and Coaches;
• Ensure all work is carried out in an effective and timely manner to support continued high standards of the Yes Futures programmes.

Programme Managers will also be given the opportunity to support with other Head Office functions, including but not limited to:

• Strengthening our strategy, programme design and theory of change;
• Supporting the marketing of Yes Futures to new schools and customers;
• Developing our fundraising strategy through bid writing and other fundraising tasks;
• Establishing relationships with key partner organisations;
• Planning our future Ambassador offer and other pilot programmes.

We're looking for an ambitious and proactive Head of Development to join our small, passionate team and support the delivery of our mission.

About the Role

The Head of Development will work closely with the CEO, Head of Programmes & Funding and Head of Operations & Finance, as part of the SLT, setting the strategy and taking responsibility for income generation across Frank Water including charitable fundraising as well as  commercial sales and development through our Social Enterprise.

You will lead an integrated communications strategy which includes thought leadership, brand development, communicating impact, agreeing marketing messaging of commercial opportunities and of fundraising opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure a diverse and balanced income portfolio to include philanthropy, legacy fundraising, community and individual giving, corporates, events and commercial (including income from products, services and festival activity via the social enterprise).

• Own and manage the Major Donor portfolio and stewardship.

Prospectus are delighted to be supporting the Sussex voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) Leaders Alliance (SVLA) in developing a new team to work on behalf of the VCSE with health and care partners across Sussex. There are three Health and Care Programme Manager roles part time roles (0.6 fte) with roles based in West Sussex, Brighton and Hove and East Sussex. The roles require hybrid working, with the flexibility of office, home and some travel.

These new and exciting leadership opportunities in the VCSE sector in Sussex will develop the sectors strategic role as a partner in the emerging health and care integrated structures to reduce health inequalities and improve population health for people living in Sussex.

The postholders will work closely alongside the VCSE within their dedicated places and as a team with the Sussex Strategic Lead to develop and enable strong relationships to support the VCSE in its preparation and response to the developing strategic commissioning approaches in the health and care sector. The successful candidates will be strategic thinkers with strong leadership experience and understanding of the needs, complexities and challenges faced by the VCSE sector, NHS and local government partners. they will have excellent knowledge and understanding of the strategic national and local context and key drivers across the breadth of local health and care structures, bringing significant experience and understanding of strategic commissioning and the range of funding models and mechanisms to the team and be comfortable working in an environment of transformational change.

Fundraising development

• Identify and pursue new funding opportunities for our youth empowerment programmes, as well as for research and innovation opportunities to expand our existing offer.
