As Educational Partnerships Manager you will be a key contributor to the regional educational partnerships team, supporting the team to achieve shared KPIs for the region and the wider organisation. The role of Educational Partnerships Manager involves working directly with young people and teachers in schools that are delivering / supporting the delivery of our Young Enterprise programmes.
The Educational Partnerships Manager role will suit someone who can work with young people, build rapport and engage young people from a range of backgrounds. You will need to be confident in working within education settings and liaising with school staff, volunteers, and corporate volunteers. This can be a varied role, but a very exciting role as well as very rewarding. Your experience in relationship development and management will help with developing new schools as well as supporting existing school relationships. There is not an exhaustive list but is to provide you with a flavour of the role.

Job Purpose
The Trailblazer Lead is an exciting and important role that leads delivery of Babbasa’s Trailblazer Programme - a brand new programme to support the continued professional and personal development of Babbasa’s alumni of young people who have been through our programmes (called ‘Trailblazers’). One of the core aims of the programme is to promote underrepresented young people’s voices in spaces of influence, and to positively shape policy and decision making to better ensure young people’s needs and interests from across the city are represented.
The Trailblazer Lead will achieve this by organising and coordinating activities to support Trailblazers’ professional and personal development, from skills training and workshops, to 1:1 support, to brokering access to resources, spaces, and incentives to support their growth. Alongside this you will be working across the entire team to broker leadership and influencing opportunities for the Trailblazers and supporting them to engage with these from board positions, to speaking engagements, to engagement in research, alongside other influencing activities. The other arm of the programme involves supporting Trailblazers to engage in activities to support other young people and their local communitie, from outreach engagements, to peer mentoring, to leading and delivering their own youth projects. The Trailblazer programme is a groundbreaking programme in Bristol designed to tangibly support young people to tangibly engage in and lead on influence making and policy shaping, in a way that also supports their personal professional ambitions.
Role Specific Responsibilities
- Design and deliver outreach engagements to young people in education and community settings aimed at raising awareness of Babbasa’s services, and increasing young people’s sense of confidence, belonging and empowerment.
- Coordinate a programme of skills sessions, training, and workshops tailored to the needs and interests of the Trailblazers, seeking regular feedback on activities from the Trailblazers, and ensuring successful delivery.
- Build a trusting relationship (based on Babbasa values) with young people engaged - to ensure we meet their progression outcome and identify/address any health and safety, disability, equality, concerns or welfare issues.
- With the support of the Babbasa team broker and coordinate leadership and influencing activities for the Trailblazers such as engagement in youth projects and programmes, research projects, access to positions of influence (e.g. board membership), and other Continued Professional Development opportunities.
- Support Trailblazers to engage and successfully influence businesses, statutory bodies, city wide voluntary organisations, and local or national government to advocate for the needs and views of young people from their communities.
- Provide personalised 1:1 support and coaching to our Trailblazers ranging from careers support (e.g. support with job applications and interview skills), to wider professional and personal development goals (e.g. applying for training, attending industry or city-wide events, applying for volunteer roles, finding shadowing opportunities etc.)
- Coordinate and work with the services team to identify potential Trailblazer candidates and onboard them to the programme.
- Monitor and evaluate each of the core elements of the Trailblazer programme, track individual progress including longer term outcomes, and assist to produce monthly reports on activity and impact as well as a bi-annual report to the funder (with the support of the Head of Impact and Fundraising Lead).
- Successfully engage a wide variety of stakeholders at all levels in the Trailblazer Programme and effectively steward those relationships to create strong buy-in to the programme and Babbasas’s wider mission.

You have a strong understanding of the barriers under-represented or marginalised young people might face in realising their aspirations. You understand safeguarding policies and procedures, and are able to assess young people’s needs and challenges, making appropriate referrals where needed.

About First Step Trust (FST)
FST was established in 1994 with the aim of providing access to work experience and salaried employment for people with severe and enduring mental health problems and other disadvantages. Over the years we have managed to adapt our service offer to meet the ongoing changes in funder requirements. We have achieved this by extending our offer to a wider group of long term unemployed people to include a range of practical work and office based work and good quality training courses.
Our approach is about giving workforce members the chance to overcome some of the difficulties facing them by getting them involved as colleagues. We provide ‘on the job’ training, advice and support to enable each person to improve their basic skills and knowledge of the various work undertaken. This will include supporting workforce members to gain recognised qualifications and access to work placements with our customers and other organisations.
In the run up to the pandemic we had 4 garages and Abbevilles. During the pandemic we lost 3 garages due to the loss of trade (Salford), the ending of a lease (Lambeth) and an agreed early termination of the lease in Bexley. We also lost funding for the Lambeth project March 2023 when our contract came to an end.
In addition to the pandemic, funders have increasingly been looking for projects that get people into work and then offer support to help them stay in employment. The Individual Placement and Support (IPS) is the preferred model for most funders.
Whilst IPS has it benefits it is not suitable for the group of people FST works with due to the levels of literacy / numeracy, low self-esteem, low self-confidence and other factors including low level or no formal marketable skills to offer employers. The majority of the FST workforce have been unemployed anywhere from 5 to 10 years or more; 44% have never worked. We also know that most find it difficult to engage with more traditional forms of learning e.g. college, when they first join us. Prior to joining FST 55% of workforce members had achieved Level 1/Foundation or below (41% have none).
In practice this means that IPS is not suitable for them as the type of work they are eligible for (shelf stacking, warehouse work etc.) does not pay enough to make the transition from welfare benefits viable. Furthermore there is a genuine concern about not being able to return to the same level of benefits if they are unable to stay in work.
The welfare benefit trap is well known and our response has been to focus on developing people’s marketable skills across a range of practical and office / finance work.
In practice it can take 2 to 3 years or more to help people overcome the issues they face in learning new skills and overcoming the psychosocial issues alongside the fear of losing welfare benefits. The results of this approach, however, are impressive with a core group of people moving (sustainably) on to salaried employment with FST or externally.
In more recent years we have shifted our focus to developing new ways of learning and accreditation using technology including Virtual Reality (VR) QR codes and other assistive technologies (SMaRT Pathways). These programmes are aimed at helping the FST workforce gain the skills they need to access well paid employment in sectors where there are severe skills shortages e.g. the automotive trades, construction and catering.
In addition to SMaRT Pathways there is FST’s SMaRT garage services. Our social enterprise based in Woolwich which provides MOT testing, vehicle repair and servicing to both private and commercial customers. It also provides learning opportunities and work placements for workforce complementing SMaRT Pathways training. The garage also offers opportunities to gain work skills in reception, customer service, parts ordering and other relative administration tasks.
FST’s main office, also based in Woolwich, offers work skill opportunities in finance, marketing, training and general administration in addition to delivering short course training programmes.
We also run 3 work projects in secure units in the North West offering work experience in catering, car valeting and delivering training courses.
About the role
The General Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing all aspects of FST’s operations, including service delivery, human resources, outcomes governance and compliance, finance, and administrative functions.
Working closely with the CEO, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of our day-to-day operations across the organisation, while contributing to the strategic planning and growth of the organisation.

Programme Manager role
We are now looking for an enthusiastic and committed Programme Manager(s) to join our existing Programme Team in September 2024 on a full or part-time basis (6-month fixed-term with potential to extend). As a Programme Manager, you will be responsible for managing the Yes Futures programmes in-person, in our partner primary and secondary schools in North London, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire & Buckinghamshire.
Main Responsibilities
You will be one of a small team of Programme Managers, dedicated to delivering excellent programmes which make a positive difference to the lives of students. The main responsibilities of the Programme Manager role are:
Programme delivery
- Responsible for the care and wellbeing of all students in your schools on the programme;
- Communicating with parents where necessary during the programme, by email, letter and telephone;
- Planning and delivering whole-group workshops for students;
- Planning and delivering information and celebration events for students and parents;
- Facilitating the in-person and online volunteer coaching team to deliver student coaching sessions. As well as delivering coaching sessions to students, where required;

- Implementing discipline procedures, including reporting serious discipline issues;

Organisation and administration
- School onboarding, including ensuring that dates are planned, students are recruited and parental agreements are returned;
