We are seeking an experienced and dynamic PR and marketing professional in our London fundraising office to design and deliver creative, multi-channel, integrated fundraising and PR campaigns designed to significantly increase the Hospital’s voluntary income.

The success of this role will be dependent on engaging and building meaningful long-term relationships with both existing and new supporters through effective donor stewardship, attending events, and networking.  

The successful candidate will work in conjunction with a small, dedicated team to provide fundraising, comms, and event support to our community fundraising groups.  

High quality comms and media are going to be central to our plans to go public in a big way in 2024.  Creating high-quality, impactful, and engaging content for multimedia platforms will be key. You’ll be able to identify stories from across the organisation, draw out information and ideas from others, and successfully turn complicated or clinical information into clear, simple, and compelling narratives.  

The role requires a creative thinker with exceptional communication and leadership skills.

Main responsibilities:

Fundraising

· Develop and implement integrated fundraising, marketing and PR campaigns designed to significantly increase the Hospital’s voluntary income.

· Create and promote compelling and engaging content for web, social media, and email – ensuring that all comms have clear goals and outcomes.

· Manage the key relationships with the Guild fundraising Committee and the SOA fundraising committee including comms, marketing, and event support as well as helping to manage the key relationships with the Knights Templar sub-groups, and the County Priory Groups across the UK.  

· To put in place measures for evaluating the effectiveness of all fundraising, PR and marketing activity ensuring robust data collection, analysis procedures, and making suggestions for improvements where required.

· Manage the production of key organisational publications – including, the Jerusalem Scene magazine, Annual Report, Strategic Plan, Annual Leaflet, and other promotional materials.

· To work closely with the Executive Head of UK Office and project partners to deliver a new website, contributing expertise and ideas in regard to its look, feel and functionality.

· Take responsibility for the ongoing management and maintenance of the website, working with external consultants where required to resolve issues.  

· Understand and apply the principles of up-to-date SEO.

· Working with colleagues in Jerusalem to maintain a bank of compelling messages, narratives, and case studies for use across all external communications.

PR & Media

· To actively promote the charity’s fundraising endeavours including drafting all external and internal messaging to both new and existing supporters – e.g. email campaigns, newsletters, invitations, letters, speeches, presentations etc. for senior staff and volunteers.

· Managing press and media opportunities related to SJEHG’s fundraising activities.  

· Cultivate and maintain relationships with press and media, proactively pitching stories to secure media coverage, drafting press releases, media plans, articles, and other materials for SJEHG’s fundraising activities.

· To provide counsel and advice to senior leadership on external and internal messaging, as required.

Other

· To assist with the management of the marketing budget, monitoring expenses, ensuring cost effectiveness, seeking to maximise return on investment.

· To keep accurate records and help ensure effective data management processes across the organisation.

· Collaborate effectively with colleagues and a wide range of individuals and organisations.

· To uphold and enhance the charity’s brand identity through consistent messaging, and visual elements across all communication channels and materials.

· Promote innovation and best-practice in marketing communications, with a strong focus on the external environment and trends.

· Any other tasks as may reasonably be required.

Our teams provide positive, high quality, welfare friendly advice on dog training and behaviour during our fun, educational classes. Using only reward-based methodology, the Dog School aim is that each dog leaves the school with the ability to follow basic cues and behave well in everyday settings.

You and your team will organise and deliver a minimum of 15 training classes per week (both online and in person), ensuring the attendees get the best possible experience within the school. Leading a small team of coaches, you will have a responsibility for development of in-class training skills and behaviour knowledge, as well as undertaking all performance management activities. Acting as a Dogs Trust ambassador you will promote Dog School in the local area through networking with relevant local businesses and targeting potential local events.

With experience of delivering dog training Classes you will have excellent communication and organisational skills. Passionate about helping dog owners better understand their pets you will have a good knowledge of the scientific principles underlying the development of behaviour in dogs.

An experience of managing a small team would be an advantage. However, we are keen to hear from talented trainers who are looking to develop their management skills. We also have plenty of other development opportunities; all Dog School team members are developed towards their APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers) assessment and ongoing membership is paid for. We now have an opportunity for a fixed term Performance Marketing Specialist to join us at Battersea. This role is responsible for delivering, optimising and evaluating Battersea’s digital advertising campaigns, specialising in paid social advertising channels such as Meta and TikTok. You will implement and manage large annual media spends to support the achievement of strategic objectives and individual campaign targets.

We are looking for someone with the skills and experience to manage the development of Brand focused digital media plans, from media planning through to implementation and end of campaign reporting. You will be required to deliver against performance targets and establish paid social activity as a key acquisition driver for teams and objectives across the organisation. You will also advise and recommend the best use of the platforms to hit performance targets.

To be successful in this opportunity, you will need excellent creative skills, and strong experience in developing campaign strategies and implementing a busy social media advertising plan, with a proven ability to manage large budgets across multiple ad platforms.

About the role

Reporting to the CFO, the Head of Finance is responsible for leading a team of 5 and overseeing the day-to-day financial management of the charity, supporting and developing its financial strategies. In collaboration with the Charity’s Executive Team, the role is responsible for safeguarding the short, medium and long-term financial health of the organisation. This includes all financial reporting requirements, treasury management (overseeing the organisation's cash and liquidity performance) and the management of the annual budget and financial planning processes. The Head of Finance is also responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining a Management Information (MI) reporting suite which supports the Charity’s operations, commercial development activities and long-term strategies. Areas of responsibility will include:

Financial Strategy and Policy

• Support the Charity’s Executive Team with ensuring the short, medium and long term financial health of the organisation
• Collaborate with the Charity’s SMT to prepare business cases and financial models to support new business activities and investment proposals
• Review and update the charities financial policies
• Cultivate a support structure across the organisation where the finance department acts as a trusted business partner for operations and management

Reporting

• Oversee all financial reporting processes for the Charity, ensuring that accurate, timely and relevant information is disseminated across the organisation
• Work with the SMT to identify areas to improve the reporting processes

Statutory Reporting, Audit & Risk

• Manage the Charity’s financial statutory compliance for both audit and regulatory matters and oversee the finance risk register
• Lead the year-end audit process, including the preparation of audit schedules, reconciliations and acting as a key point of contact for the auditors
• Prepare the financial disclosures sections of the Charity ‘s annual reports and the accompanying narrative to explain the financial performance of the year
• Support the Charity’s regulatory compliance responsibilities, particularly with the financial elements of ESFA funding guidelines. Prepare financial returns, financial health assessments and other submissions to ensure that ESFA requirements are fulfilled.

Cash Flow Management

• Monitory the Charity’s cash flow, manage the working capital controls and produce cashflow reports and forecasts
• Oversee the Charity’s cash flow management processes and report on cash flow performance against budget and forecast targets.
• Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts which provide a consistently reliable understanding of the organisation’s cash flow position over the financial year.

Finance Department Development

• Design and implement learning and development frameworks for each member of the Finance department.
• Ensure that each member of the Finance department is sufficiently supported to fulfil their performance development goals.

About you

• Qualified Accountant (ACA/CIMA/ACCA or equivalent)
• Experience of audit and preparation of annual financial accounts under UK GAAP and understanding of Charity SORP
• Experience of leading and developing Finance teams
• Experience working within the Charity or Education sectors (experience working with ESFA funding is preferable)
• Experienced managing budget processes
• Experience of business partnering

The Role 
 
As our Communications Officer, you will be responsible for planning and delivering a wide range of communications that contribute to increased brand awareness of the charity, demonstrate the charity’s expertise and impact, educate the public about cancer prevention, signs, symptoms and screening and support the generation of income for the charity. 

Specifically, you will: 

• Plan, research, create and distribute creative media content, including press releases, blog posts, case studies and videos, to support research, services, cancer insight, fundraising, events, retail, corporate partnerships and campaigns. 

• Proactively seek, identify and engage in media opportunities, such as attending events, organising photo opportunities and meeting face-to-face with case studies.

• Manage third-party suppliers such as photographers and film production agencies, obtaining quotes, providing clear briefings and ensuring work is delivered on time and within budget.

• Respond to press enquiries efficiently and to a high standard. Understand which media enquiries are appropriate for the charity’s brand and key messages and those which are not, so that the charity prioritises only those which are value-adding. 

• Organise TV, radio and press interview opportunities for the Chief Executive, Directors and Heads of. Prepare clear briefings for interviewees. 

• Demonstrate and convey professionalism at all times and represent the charity when communicating with the media, members of the public, volunteers and supporters to demonstrate the charity’s core values.

• Monitor and evaluate the charity’s media coverage and the digital impact of PR content, providing a monthly media clippings report. 

• Provide PR input to the charity’s Leadership Team, Board reports and performance dashboards. 

• Maintain continuous awareness of industry news and regularly update colleagues on key developments. 

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To be educated to a degree or equivalent level of education or have relevant experience in a similar role at a similar level. 

• Previous media experience, whether through journalism or a PR / in house media assistant role. 

• Experience in building relationships with colleagues and journalists and managing media opportunities such as interviews, broadcast opportunities and photocalls. 

• An ability to write compelling copy for multiple audiences, and media channels, often translating complicated information into a format that is easily understood by readers. 

• An agile media mind, able to spot the key storyline that will maximise the possibility of media coverage and attract the attention of the media. 

• An evaluative mindset, supporting continual improvement by analysing coverage and associated data from media activity.

HALO is seeking a dynamic and solution-oriented Country Head to lead the strategic direction of the programme in accordance with HALO’s organisational mission and goals. The Country Head will lead a senior leadership team of six mid-level managers who work across mine action operational delivery, environmental project delivery, human resources, finance, strategy, support services and a Chief of Staff. They will work in partnership with the Regional Director, Deputy Regional Director, and other HQ functional leads. The Country Head will serve as the legal and primary HALO representative in Angola and be accountable for the programme’s staff and assets, the execution of donor projects and relations with local authorities and partners.

The Country Director is responsible for leading the strategic direction of the programme, including the design, review, and implementation of the programme’s strategy in accordance with HALO’s organisational objectives and charitable purpose. This includes establishing long-term strategic goals for the programme and developing the capacity and strength of the existing team. The Angola programme has projects spanning across two of HALO’s three strategic goals and is especially focused on the expansion of activities surrounding women’s empowerment and inclusivity, and the linkages between conflict, conservation and mine action. The successful candidate to this role will be a strategic thinker, who can demonstrate previous experience successfully building capacity to achieve strategic objectives.

The Angola programme currently has twenty ongoing contracts from a variety of governmental, private, and commercial donors with an annual turnover of circa $16 million. The Country Head will oversee and lead the two programmatic Heads responsible for execution and delivery donor projects: Head of Mine Action, and Head of Environment. The Country Head will ensure that the other senior managers provide the necessary support to the programmatic Heads to ensure they have the resources, capacity and support required to operate in an effective and compliant manner. The successful candidate will need to have exceptional liaison skills as they work closely with the Head of Strategy to maintain and foster critical stakeholder relationships in Angola, specifically with the Government of Angola as the programmes’ largest donor. The Country Head will also need exceptional organisational and financial acumen as they are accountable for the programme’s financial and legal compliance with internal and national policies and legislation.

The successful candidate will need to be an inspiring leader, capable of managing the large and diverse workforce with a focus on empowerment, communication, and professional development. The Country Director will be needed to work on improving processes and procedures with a desire to lead on implementing impactful systematic change. This role requires a candidate with strong coordination capabilities, and a commitment to lead by example to maintain high professional standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the programme and foster a positive culture aligned with HALO’s values and standards, protecting, and enhancing the welfare of HALO’s staff and beneficiaries.
• Provide strategic input and support regarding the development of emerging programme opportunities and thematic growth inline with the programme and organisational strategies.
• Design and implement the programme’s long-term strategy and annual strategic goals.
• Develop the capacity and strength of the existing team, ensuring the correct staffing structure, capacity and skills are in place to achieve the programme’s strategic objectives and contractual commitments.
• Manage the senior leadership team to ensure compliance across all departments in the programme in accordance with HALO policies and procedures, national regulations and legislation, donor contracts and regulations.
• Ensure robust systems and reporting across the programme to enforce compliance through a thorough system of checks, monitoring, and accountability.
• Oversee and coordinate the senior leadership team to ensure budgetary and project contractual compliance.
• Manage the Head of Finance and regulate financial reporting to enforce monthly, annual and project cycle deadlines and internal and external regulatory requirements are met.
• Lead the in-country team, building morale, and providing empowerment, clear communication, and professional development.
• Provide leadership and line management to direct reports, including ensuring the setting of clear objectives, regular feedback, and development opportunities, and completing annual performance appraisals.
• Ensure the programme operates in accordance with national labour law and HALO’s HR regulations including safeguarding, health and safety, and security. Ensure total adoption and integration HR policies and systems, and lead on implementing impactful and responsive systematic change.
• Inspire, mentor, and manage across direct reports and the wider team, providing support to performance improvement or disciplinary processes for staff as required.
• Maintain a detailed understanding of the political, military, economic and security situation in the country to understand and evaluate risks as well as needs and opportunities.
• Review and assess existing and emerging risks in the country and provide or recommend appropriate mitigation measures (to include the Foreign Terrorist Organisation threat and sanctions).
• Ensure operational safety, emergency response and crisis management response and preparedness in coordination with the senior leadership team.
• Represent HALO with key stakeholders to maintain relationships with partners and donor representatives in country and raise HALO’s profile by building complementary partnerships and securing new funding opportunities.
• Review operational, financial, safeguarding, or other major incident investigation reports as required, ensuring timely and sufficient corrective actions are taken.
• Implement programme communications strategy and raise HALO’s profile through engagement with the media and with potential private donors and supporters.
• Report regularly and as required to HALO HQ and the Regional Director.
• Where appropriate, act as representative for the Regional Director / Deputy Regional Director.
• Carry out any other duties as required or directed in support of HALO’s mission.

Essential Requirements:

• Significant senior leadership experience within the INGO/ Humanitarian sector.
• Significant senior leadership experience of full cycle project management including design, implementation, evaluation, and accountability with a track record of achieving results.
• Experience in managing compliance across project management, financial, labour law and other departmental functions.
• Experience in strategy building and implementation.
• Proven experience establishing and maintaining new stakeholder relationships.
• Financial management and compliance.
• Proven experience leading and managing teams, building capacity and creating an inclusive workplace.
• Experience assessing and managing risk as well as managing incidents and crises.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and an ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including public speaking as an organisation’s representative.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills and fluency in English.

Desirable:

• Portuguese language skills or a strong willingness to learn.
• Experience of working overseas in low-resource settings and within complex political environments.
• Experience working with a variety of donor types, such as government, private, corporate and foundations.

• Experience implementing professional development strategies for staff.
• Experience in mine action, weapons and ammunition management, and other related aid & development activity.

The Role

They need someone who has knowledge of the UK’s marine environment, the marine planning system and marine protected areas. Experience of out reach and advocacy efforts which has resulted in the public and decision makers calling for the restoration of their marine environment
