The Development assistant will play a vital role in supporting the charity's ambitious fundraising programme at a pivotal time of growth and transformation. We are looking for an outstanding individual to join our Development and Alumni Relations team to help guide and deliver ourregular giving and stewardship programmes. The ideal candidate will have experience of running successful major fundraising appeals to large audiences. Sands offers support to anyone affected by the death of a baby.
Our volunteers are incredible! They run peer support, community-based activity, build relationships with hospitals, run football teams, cheer at events and much more. Putting them first and enabling the activity they deliver is the primary goal of the Community and Volunteering Team.
Local peer-led bereavement support is a core part of what we do here at Sands. This is primarily delivered by Support Groups and Sands United football teams run by dedicated volunteers right across the UK, most of whom are bereaved themselves. There are 84 Groups and 40 Sands United team across the UK who provide safe and welcoming spaces to be there for each other.
This is a high-profile and exciting new role which is responsible for ensuring that anyone affected by baby loss or the death of a baby has the chance to access Sands peer led activities in Scotland, promoting sport and activities for health, wellbeing and support services and groups, ensuring that all sections of the community are aware of available activities and where they can go to be part of the community.
We are looking for successful, demonstrable experience of working with minoritised communities and a good working understanding of the barriers people experience accessing bereavement support and care in statutory, health and community settings.

SUMMARY OF ROLE
The Events & Marketing Coordinator will play an essential role in delivering high-impact engagement activities and supporting the wider work of RABI’s Marketing and Communications team. Reporting to the Events & Engagement Manager, you’ll help coordinate the charity’s presence at a wide range of events -including agricultural shows, external affairs engagements, conferences and community activities, ensuring a consistently professional and compelling presence across England and Wales. You will play a key part in engaging with supporters, volunteers, ambassadors and the public, representing RABI with warmth and professionalism.
The role will also help collate and provide valuable marketing and content support, including supporting the capturing of photography and video for use on digital channels, assisting with the development of volunteer and ambassador case studies, and supporting CRM data collection and engagement surveys. This is an exciting, hands-on, outward-facing role suited to an organised, creative and personable team player.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Event Coordination and Delivery
- Assist with the organisation and delivery of national and regional events including agricultural shows, external affairs events, volunteer engagement activities and community outreach initiatives.

Job Purpose
As a Night Shelter Manager, you’ll be the lead staff member for your shift, overseeing the safe and smooth running of one of Glass Door’s seasonal night shelters between November and April.
You’ll work alongside Overnight Homeless Shelter Workers and volunteers on your shift to make sure the shelter is a welcoming, safe, and respectful place for up to 35 guests. Your role is to set the tone for the night: briefing the team before opening, welcoming and inducting new guests, explaining our shelter guidelines, and ensuring everyone knows their responsibilities. You’ll be the first point of contact for any issues during your shift, whether that’s supporting someone in distress, addressing concerns or responding to challenging behaviour.
You’ll also ensure shelter procedures are followed, keep accurate records of attendance and incidents, and maintain clear communication with the casework team so they can follow up with guests. Alongside leading operations, you’ll actively work with guests, volunteers, and colleagues to create a friendly and supportive environment where everyone is treated with dignity.
This role is ideal for someone who can remain calm under pressure, lead a small team confidently, and is committed to supporting people as they work towards ending their homelessness; all while making sure the night shelter runs smoothly from start to finish.
Job Description

Are you an experienced community organiser looking to make a real difference in an urban community? Do you have experience of working with minoritised and marginalised communities? Are you a people-person with the skills and tenacity to help local people start exciting new initiatives?
If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team at Big Local Works (BLW) as our Community Organiser. Based on a historic Market Square recently refurbished with £2m from the GLA, we want to develop a more people-powered regeneration to sit alongside the massive property development happening all around us.
As well as driving economic improvements, we want to help create a more tolerant, cohesive, and vibrant local community where everybody is welcome. Part of that is to help local people create more community events, activities, and enterprises that give people the chance to collaborate together and build a lively community where people work and play together.
We need someone with the imagination, creativity and skill to support communities and individuals to have a say in how their community develops, but also take an active part in shaping the area. We have already helped many local people set up their own initiatives, building their confidence and helping them find resources – including the Bermondsey Literature festival, Latin markets, and a range of dance, ecology and arts projects. This role could help shape the future of South Bermondsey and help us make a great place even better – with a more inclusive economy and community for all.
Key to this is better involvement and increasing the visibility of people from a wider range of backgrounds, in a highly divided area. General Information
Big Local Works (BLW) is a community-focused economic and social inclusion charity based in Bermondsey, South East London. We want to help create a thriving, inclusive local economy and a community in which everyone can participate.
We deliver our support in the community through three main services:
- Expert welfare and benefits advice and advocacy for local people experiencing poverty and hardship
- Employability Skills training and coaching to help people access ways of increasing their earned income
- Start-up and enterprise support for clients who wish to start trading on the local ‘Blue Market’ People Powered Regeneration
- Wider community building designed to create a more tolerant, diverse, and lively local community where everybody is welcome
We have a strategic vision to create a ‘people-powered regeneration’ in an area already undergoing massive redevelopment. In July 2019, a community campaign was successful in securing £2m funding from the GLA for the ‘Made in Bermondsey’ regeneration project centred on making key improvements to the local marketplace,
the Blue Market in South Bermondsey. Final works were completed in July 2022 and the market now has a first-class infrastructure for traders, local residents and visitors to use and enjoy the Blue Market Place. The market also showcases a vision of a better future for the local area: a more prosperous, resilient and connected local community where people come together to trade, socialise, and celebrate across the diverse boundaries.
South Bermondsey has a problematic history with racism and other forms of intolerance, and while migrant (recent and longer-term) communities have begun to settle in Bermondsey after many years of exclusion, there remains a sense that they are not full members of our community. Through our work we seek to empower local people, encourage enterprise and community activity, which is intended both to support the economic regeneration of the area and to empower and increase the confidence of local diverse communities.
Most recently, we have been successful in securing £200,000 from the Esmee Fairbairn Charity for strategy and community engagement support in the local area.

Over the past 2 years, we’ve undertaken in-depth research and community mapping to understand our area’s needs, assets and lived experiences.
This role has three key responsibilities:
- Outreach and engagement with diverse local communities to help them build a stronger, more representative voice.

Working pattern

• Lead outreach, discovery, and tailored proposals for £10k–£50k+ partnerships (CIC/CSR/ESG, sponsorship, skills/volunteering, payroll giving, in-kind, cause-related marketing).
• Co-create compelling value propositions and packages (local stories + measurable outcomes + staff engagement).
• Use the consultancy budget strategically (e.g., research, copy/design, senior introductions) to accelerate conversion.
2) Account Management & Stewardship
• Provide excellent partner experience and stewardship plans; agree on KPIs/MOUs and deliverables; renew and grow multi-year partnerships.
• Design staff engagement that goes beyond volunteering: insight sessions, youth-led events, site visits, mentoring, pro-bono sprints.
• Work with Impact to evidence results (dashboards, case studies, SROI), and with Comms on brand-aligned content and events.
3) Strategy, Governance & Reporting
• Own the corporate income plan aligned to our Revenue Growth Strategy (with realistic quarterly milestones and early-warning triggers).
• Track pipeline and income on the CRM; produce quarterly RAG dashboards for the Task Force/Board.
• Uphold ethical screening and brand alignment; ensure legal/compliance and safeguarding standards are met.
4) Internal & External Collaboration
• Partner with Partnerships & Grants to align offers and avoid duplication (trusts/consortia insight sharing).
• Leverage the CEO and trustees for warm introductions; brief and support them for pitches/cultivation.
• Champion youth voice and member benefits in every partnership.

• Demonstrable success personally securing and growing £10k–£50k+ partnerships in the charity or commercial/corporate sector (e.g., CSR/ESG, B2B partnerships, sponsorship, key accounts).
• Strong track record of account management and stewardship with senior stakeholders; confident in negotiation and renewal.
• Clear understanding of why companies partner (brand, people, purpose, place) and how to align offers to business goals.
Skills & Abilities (essential)
• Outstanding relationship management; credible with senior leaders; collaborative with internal teams.
• Excellent storytelling and proposal writing; persuasive presentations; ability to tailor value propositions.
