NHS Providers’ Development programmes team delivered a range of training and development activities for NHS boards and foundation trust governors. The team delivers over 200 events annually. We are looking for an additional Programme Administrator to take responsibility for the efficient event and logistics administration of this work to deliver high quality training and support for our members. This activity is delivered virtually, in-person or hybrid.

Role description

Lead the delivery team to deliver joyful and impactful learning for children on our programmes:

• Lead the improvement of learning to grow the impact of our flagship virtual programme and meet our organisational impact targets;
• Drive innovation and keep the team connected to best practice in digital pedagogy and literacy teaching;
• Enable the team to maintain the impact of the Hackney Learning programme;
• Set termly programme aims and content.

• Pro-actively create a culture of reflection and iterative improvement driven by data insights:

• Lead a data driven culture of improvement that incorporates practitioner reflections, user experience insights, impact results, quality assurance results and other monitoring insights;
• Deliver a systematised process for reflection and improvement including half termly insight meetings;

Programme Manager - South Central Region

Our three-year strategy is working well with improvements and expansions to our delivery model, a renewed vision and mission and we want to continue to develop and grow. To support this, we are recruiting for a new programme manager to grow our programmes and contracts in our South-Central Region. This area covers prisons HMP Winchester, HMP Bullingdon, HMP Grendon, HMP Springhill, HMP Aylesbury, HMP Huntercombe, HMP Woodhill, HMP Isle of Wight and HMP Gurnsey. We are seeking proactive, committed, and enthusiastic applicants to join our team and help us continue our journey.

Working closely with people in prison, prison managers, Shannon Trust staff and volunteers you will ensure development of our criminal programmes maximising literacy and numeracy learning opportunities for people across a number of prisons and contracts in your area. 

Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings, managing teams and contract performance, underpinned by the ability to build relationships and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach. We want to hear from applicants who can lead, drive performance and who are as committed to the cause as we are.

This is a home-based role which requires regular weekly travel across the South Central area to prisons and meetings (anticipated number of travel days are 2 days per week).

The position:

You will manage our Volunteer team, requiring exceptional communication, a natural affinity for people management and organisation, and an ability to inspire people to get involved with our work. You will be responsible for the overarching strategy and success of the Volunteer Program.

Line managing two members of staff, you will ensure our Volunteer team sets and meets their strategic goals, contributing to our organisational priorities. Hours:

This is a temporary 12 month maternity cover, full-time position over Monday to Friday.

From 1st July 2024 we are piloting a four day working week across the whole of the UK organisation. This pilot is planned to run for 12 months, at which point a decision will be made by our Board of Trustees as to whether this will become permanent. Success of the trial relies on the organisation being able to achieve the same or improved level of impact in four working days as five, with staff experiencing either the same or improved levels of wellbeing. 

During the four day week pilot, working hours for this position will be reduced to 30 hours per week, spanning Monday to Thursday, with no reduction in salary. This will be a temporary change to the contractual terms for the successful candidate. The appointed person must be prepared to increase their working hours to 37.5 hours per week if a return to a five-day working week is decided. In the event that THL UK considers before the end of the trial period that the trial is having an adverse operational impact, we reserve the right to bring the trial to end on one month’s notice.

Who you are:

Volunteers will be your passion. You’ll have a deep understanding of the importance of this kind of supporter and how to best steward their specific experience and manage their unique needs. You'll understand how to best manage and recruit volunteers, mobilising our UK wide network effectively both remotely and on the ground in order to create change. You’ll know how to best communicate and engage with them in order to make the most out of their time and efforts. You are someone who wouldn’t ask volunteers to do something you wouldn’t do yourself and you’ll ideally have some kind of experience of campaigning in a paid or voluntary capacity (e.g. attending protests).

Someone with previous line management experience is desirable, as you’ll need to be able to effectively manage and lead your team of direct reports.

As a member of the Leadership level of the organisation, you’re someone who can meaningfully contribute to organisation wide decision making, thinking holistically and strategically across teams.

As the manager and leader of your team, you’ll have demonstrable experience of organising several deliverables or projects, which involve multiple teams, at any one time.

You can forward think strategically and collaboratively, considering the volunteer program as well as the work of other teams, setting realistic timelines with this in mind and meeting deadlines reliably.

You’re adaptable, and can work nimbly, with desirable experience working specifically within a campaign environment in some way, where things can change quickly and unexpectedly.

You’re someone who can keep your cool in challenging situations, being able to problem solve and reprioritise with ease to lead your team to success, even when things change at the last minute. You are able to continually evaluate and identify areas of improvement for the volunteer program, recognising key opportunities to evolve and adapt for the best possible impact for animals.

Home based, you’ll have a strong ability to work independently, but you’re also someone who can work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Duties:

Management

Manages the Lead Grassroots Campaigns Coordinator and the Volunteer Program Administrator

• Ensures staff receive the training, resources and support to do their jobs effectively, encouraging the professional development of individual team members

• Manages and leads the Volunteer team to achieve agreed goals

• Develops volunteering goals, in collaboration with the Programs department, and is responsible for timely reporting and tracking of these

• Sets/clarifies job expectations and provides regular feedback, guidance and support to your team

• Empowers staff in the ongoing delivery of their work, from development of strategies and techniques through to successful day to day outputs

• Manages time off requests and approval of expenses for the Volunteer team members

• Manages overarching budget for Volunteer team

Strategy

• Develop and manage all plans and overarching strategy for our Volunteer team, including volunteer stewardship, recruitment and grassroots activism on the ground, ensuring the day to day is delivered effectively by the team

• Work together with the Head of Programs to develop and guide THL UK Volunteer strategy and activities, identifying key priorities and strategies to further the program

• Be an active member of the Programs department Leadership team, working closely with other managers within programs and the Head of Programs to deliver department goals

• Be an active member of the wider Leadership team across the organisation, contributing to organisation level decisions and working to ensure effective strategic alignment, ensuring Volunteer work is communicated successfully and opportunities for collaboration maximised

• Analyse & report on the effectiveness of activities delivered by the team, including timely goal reporting, feeding into funding proposals and more

• Observe and work with other organisations to learn new approaches and share/coordinate strategies, making connections with other organisations as required

Volunteering

• Lead our volunteer program to ensure our volunteers take action with us and remain engaged

• Ensure the Volunteer team organise effective and engaging actions and opportunities for our volunteers which contribute to our campaigns, working particularly closely with the Campaigns team

• Determine overarching training strategy, recruitment and internal processes for the volunteer program as a whole, with supporter experience at the heart

• Oversee our volunteering policies and procedures and their successful implementation, including regular reviews

• Ensure volunteering remains at the heart of what we do, you identify a diverse range of opportunities for our volunteers to get involved with across the entire organisation which ultimately contribute to campaign success, and high satisfaction amongst the volunteers themselves

In addition:

• Attend conferences, events, protests and actions as required

• Participate in team meetings including leading, note-taking and facilitation.

• Attend in-person workshops several times a year.

• Help us make THL UK an inclusive workplace where employees and supporters are proud to be members of the movement

Situated in the Programmes, Policy & Impact Directorate, and reporting into the Head of UK Programmes, the Programme Lead, Carer Poverty Alleviation is a new role linked to the development of a new major programme operating in England, Scotland, and Wales. The Carer Poverty Alleviation Programme is a new Carers Trust programme under our strategic goal that no carer is pushed into poverty or is financially disadvantaged by their caring role.

Role description and purpose

The post-holder will be responsible for the successful leadership and management of CPA’s portfolio of programmes in line with the strategic direction set by the Council and Trustees. Reporting directly to the CEO, the post-holder will be a key member of the senior management team, leading the Programme/Project Management team and working with the Finance Manager, Communications Lead, Research Lead, Advisors and other key staff to develop and deliver CPA programmes across the Commonwealth and beyond. This will include strategic planning, project and team management, development of workplans and budgets, provision of leadership, good governance and oversight of all programme-related activities. This role will be responsible for engaging and working with external agencies, subject matter experts, and all relevant stakeholders to ensure the on-budget delivery of high-quality outputs across CPA’s portfolio of programmes. The post holder will also be required to work with other Leads and key staff across the organisation to scope and develop relationships with potential funders and support the creation of funding proposals for future programmes and workstreams, integrating their delivery into the overall programmes portfolio.

Key duties and responsibilities

Leadership and operational planning, management and oversight

• Collaborate with the Board, CEO and key staff to develop and advance the organisational strategic plan and goals and ensure programme areas align with strategic plan.

• Implement the strategic plan, integrating all aspects of the organisation’s work into programmes, including policy, advocacy, communications, product development, research and evaluation.

• Work with the CEO and senior management team, creating, maintaining, and/or overseeing systems and processes to ensure effective management of the daily operations of the programmes team and an organisational structure that supports the organisation’s goals.

Programme planning and management

• Oversee and lead the development and delivery of high-quality programmes, services and resources in line with users’ needs and the wider global health landscape, taking into consideration other relevant internal and external programmes, services and resources already available or under development.

• Lead and direct the appropriate use of programme resources including staffing and finances, ensuring programmes are delivered to budget in accordance to agreed KPIs and outcomes.

• Manage grant life cycles, from request to close. This entails supporting the writing of/reviewing applications, overseeing budgets, reviewing or producing relevant reports, and monitoring impact.

• Deepen existing relationships with donors, agencies, and stakeholders to enhance programme sustainability, engaging with key stakeholders to understand their needs and align programme offerings accordingly.

• Working with other key staff, and in alignment with the strategic priorities of the charity, support the identification and development of new partnerships and funding opportunities to expand the programme portfolio.

Human resources planning and management

• Leading the programmes team, including direct line management responsibility, regular one-to-ones, team meetings, pastoral support and appraisals.

• Determine human resource requirements for the management and delivery of programmes, services and resources; recruit, select and appoint appropriate staff according to need and funding availability.

• Ensure adherence to human resources policies, procedures and practices including the development of job descriptions for all staff.

• Establish and maintain good staff relationships and morale, ensuring a healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations.

• Identify and develop systems to support staff development and identify opportunities for staff development where possible.

Cross-team working and collaboration

• Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that programmes, services and resources are effectively communicated/disseminated and evaluated.

• Use available data and information for evidence-based decision making, to continuously develop and improve programmes, services and resources.

External relationships, strategic partnerships and collaboration

• Advocate for and communicate the organisation’s vision, objectives, core programmes, services and resources to all relevant stakeholders, building strong partnerships that further the organisation’s profile and reputation.

• Attend and report at core organisational meetings, and relevant internal and external conferences and events, raising the profile of the CPA and gathering strategic insights relevant to the organisation’s programmes and wider vision and mission.

• Significant programme leadership experience within the international development/global health context.

Job Purpose and Key Responsibilities

The Head of Programme Management leads a large team to oversee all of CIUK’s active humanitarian and development projects funded by UK donors. The team leads CIUK’s relationships with Country Offices and Regions and develops close partnerships to help us achieve long-term and effective programming across the humanitarian and development arena. The team also builds strong relationships with institutional donors and works with the Business with CARE team to deliver corporate-funded programmes. The Head of Programme Management is responsible for ensuring strong grant management and donor compliance including programme financial management. The team ensures that CARE provides and is recognised by donors for offering excellent value for money and real impact for its programme participants. The team also leads CIUK’s approach to delivering smart development and humanitarian programmes with an increasing focus on equitable partnership approaches.

The role-holder also has a crucial role to play in identifying learning from our programmes, including from our new ways of working that promote greater local leadership, and sharing these across CARE and the sector.

About you

You will have excellent understanding of CIUK’s main donor, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), with deep knowledge of how the FCDO operates, how they are structured and contract programmes, as well as their current priorities. You will have the ability to build strong relationships and have demonstrated ability to negotiate complex contracts with donors and influence donor positions. You will have a strong programme management and risk management background that allows you to understand and work across multiple projects and contexts, and manage risk at the portfolio level, dealing effectively with new risks and issues as they emerge.

As a leader of a large team, you will have strong people leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate strategy into action, motivate colleagues and demonstrate to team members how their role links to organisational strategy and objectives.  You will need to have experience of working in donor-funded organisations, understand cost recovery models, and have experience working to deliver large-scale programming in development and/or humanitarian contexts.  A good understanding of the current debates in the sector on local leadership and a commitment to the principles set out in the pledge for change are essential.

About the role

The role covers five main areas of responsibility:

• Representation and relationship management: holding relationships with a set of senior stakeholders including FCDO Senior Responsible Owners, other donor counterparts, CARE Country Directors, Programme Directors and Regional Directors. Negotiating contract terms with donors and troubleshooting delivery issues with country offices. Position CARE’s work to external stakeholders, including personally representing CIUK in external fora.
• Organisational and team leadership, strategy and planning: Set and drive the programme management team’s annual plans and contribution to the organisation’s strategic priorities and annual plan. Be accountable to delivering on team KPIs and organisational KPIs that link to PMT’s work. Play a key role in the leadership of the Programme and Policy department.
• Line management: Directly line manage up to five direct reports. Provide and support strong recruitment, line management, learning and development. Demonstrate a strong personal commitment to CIUK’s equity, diversity and inclusion goals, promote organisational EDI initiatives within the team and work with the team to set team-related EDI objectives. ​
• Financial and compliance management: Provide close and effective management of multi-million pound budgets. Reforecast accurately throughout the year, identifying and working with country offices to rectify implementation issues. Manage risks and issues at portfolio level, raising high and critical risks for attention by senior leadership and board as necessary. Ensure donor compliance is followed.
• Programme quality, monitoring evaluation and learning : Ensure that CIUK closely monitors project implementation, relevance of programme outputs and outcomes and ensures programmes meet relevant technical standards and up to date best practice. Programmes fulfil requirements on programme quality and adhere to do no harm standards, the Core Humanitarian Standard, and ensure that CARE’s safeguarding standards are met throughout the life of the programme. Proactively share knowledge from CIUK’s programmes across the confederation and externally.

AdviceUK makes a big impact. Its stakeholder, policy and advocacy work is across devolved nations as well as the UK. The Funding and Programmes Manager will support members and the wider advice sector to access and secure grant and other funding directly with the purpose of sustaining advice services. The post holder will nurture positive relationships with funders and administer grant-funded programmes on behalf of funders ensuring programmes are supportive of the needs members and the communities they serve.

Key responsibilities

• Funder Relationship-Building: Foster and maintain relationships with grant-makers and other funders to make funding available to members and advice services, share insights to shape future funding, and develop new funder relationships that create income for AdviceUK and its members.
• Programmes and Project Management: Oversee the delivery of multiple projects, coordinate involvement of staff and external partners, ensure compliance with funder requirements, and maintain effective governance, risk management and monitoring.
• Project and Programme Development: Identify funding opportunities, develop funding bids and proposals, lead tenders for contracts, ensuring these new projects integrate with AdviceUK's strategic objectives.
• Data and Evidence Management: Evaluate projects to share best practices, conduct research and data analysis, support performance reporting, and ensure accurate and timely data entry.

The Funding and Programmes Manager will have at least 2 years' experience managing multiple time-limited projects and programmes in a similar role, and an understanding of the social welfare advice sector, the issues faced by advice providers and the communities they serve. The successful candidate will have experience of setting up and maintaining effective processes to monitor projects/programmes deliver funder requirements and agreed objectives, and experience of programme monitoring and evaluation. You will have experience of working with funders to support the development of their funding strategy and programmes, building successful bids for project/programme funding, and assessing and applying for government funding, contract and tenders at national and local level.

You will have the ability to build strong working relationships with peers, managers, members, partners and funders, with strong analytical, decision-making and organisational skills. You will be able to communicate clearly and concisely to a range of audiences. You will be able to use online reporting tools and CRMs and embrace new technologies and ways of working.

This is a home-based role. You will need to regularly attend meetings and events in London. There will be 4 all staff meetings a year, three in London and one outside of London. There may be out of hours work for which TOIL is granted.

1MM Regional Manager for Programme Delivery’s main tasks include:

• Helping 1MM to scale by helping establish over 150 new, high quality mentoring matches each quarter. (A match means that the mentor and the mentee have completed 1MM’s training and have had their first meeting)

• Meeting all quality assurance KPIs.

• Maximising conversion, retention, and mitigate drop-off

• Ongoing support for key stakeholder partners, including Youth Partners, and maintaining strong relationships.

• Securing at least one new partner per quarter.

• Becoming familiar with the 1MM Platform, using it comfortably for ongoing administration and providing support to users.

• Providing regular reports on progress related to the role.

• Potential for line-management responsibilities as the team grows.
