As the Institute’s Fundraising Manager you will play a pivotal role in securing the financial resources necessary to support the Institute’s strategic initiatives and operations, as well as maintaining the relationships and communities that drive long term funding. Working closely with the Institute’s Executive Leadership and board, you will be responsible for executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy from mixed funding sources – government, philanthropic and corporate - engaging with funders, and building lasting relationships with stakeholders to maximise funding opportunities.

Alongside being active in direct engagement with funders, you will lead on the underlying processes and systems that drive successful fundraising, creating and maintaining rigorous process management, record-keeping and CRM use, funder research and meeting preparation, and supporting the senior team in creating relationships that last. You will work to make the best of the Institute’s varied and committed networks and ensure that the communities around the Institute are engaged in our work, and excited to contribute. 

Harnessing the Institute’s powerful networks across mainstream financial services impact investing, social investment, philanthropy and government you will be a key figure in securing the resourcing that underpins a dynamic new chapter of the Institute’s five-year strategy.

Key responsibilities & skills development opportunities: 

Fundraising Strategy and Implementation 

• Implement a robust fundraising strategy aligned with the Institute's mission and goals.

• Create and manage annual fundraising plans with clear targets and KPIs. 

• Identify and outreach to potential funding sources, including foundations, corporations and government. 

• Enable and support senior leadership, board and wider team to engage with potential funders, setting them up for success. 

Donor Engagement and Relationship Management 

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with existing donors, ensuring they are engaged and informed about the impact of their contributions. 

• Identify and approach new potential donors, providing compelling cases for support. 

• Working closely with our events capability organise and manage donor events, meetings, and communications. 

Proposal Development and Grant Management 

• Lead the development of high-quality proposals and grant applications working closely with leadership and programme colleagues.

• Monitor and report on the progress of fundraising, providing regular updates to senior management and the board. 

• Monitor and report on the progress of grants, working with project managers and leadership to ensure grant deliverables are achieved on time 

Collaboration and Team Leadership 

• Work closely with the Executive Director, and team members across the organisation to align fundraising efforts with strategic and programmatic priorities. 

• Coordinate with the communications and events team to develop engaging materials and events to support fundraising efforts. 

• Be supportive of creating a collaborative and inclusive working environment, supporting key Institute-wide commitments on DEI. 

Data Management and Reporting 

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of fundraising activities, donor interactions, and financial contributions. 

• Prepare detailed reports on fundraising performance, donor engagement, and financial targets. 

• Maintain CRM systems to be up to date, and utilize systems to manage donor information and track fundraising metrics. 

• Ensure that the Institute complies with laws, regulations and best practice relating to fundraising including, but not limited to, those specified by the Fundraising Regulator in its Code of Conduct and GDPR. 

Essential Qualifications and Experience: 

• Proven experience in fundraising preferably within the non-profit sector. 

• Interest and enthusiasm for the impact investing sector. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive proposals and presentations. 

• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. 

• Proficiency in using CRM systems.

• Experience in securing large multi-year grants. 

• Demonstrated success in securing significant funding from diverse sources. 

• Strong understanding of the impact investing landscape and its funding dynamics.

About the role

Smart Works exists to empower all women who need help getting into work. We are currently in a significant growth phase, doubling the number of women we support to 10,000 women a year by 2025. As such, we require vital cornerstone funding and are seeking to establish a Major Gifts function, to secure donations from high-net worth individuals, that will enable us to achieve our mission and help thousands of women to transform their lives.

This is an exciting new role that provides an opportunity to build a new major gifts programme from scratch. Supported by the Director of Partnerships, you will work closely with the CEO, Board, and our network of 750 volunteers, to develop a giving strategy that will engage and grow a new pool of crucial supporters for Smart Works.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of existing major donors, as well as conducting prospect research, developing bespoke stewardship materials, and securing five-figure and six-figure repeat gifts.

We seek an excellent communicator, with significant experience in influencing, negotiating and exceeding set targets. Creativity, an understanding of women’s fashion, and knowledge of wealth circles would also be advantageous.

The Fundraising and Partnerships team are based in London. This is a hybrid role, working from a London centre at least twice per week, with the opportunity to work across our North, West and South London centres. Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Partnerships, the successful candidate will:

• Lead the development and delivery of a giving programme, building a pipeline and carrying out proactive prospect research
• Secure five-figure and six-figure multi-year gifts from major donors, to exceed income targets
• Research and identify prospective major donors who could support Smart Works, through existing warm networks and via outreach to cold audiences
• Work collaboratively across teams and functions to produce creative and compelling propositions and materials to secure both core and restricted funding
• Represent Smart Works to a diverse range of stakeholders and audiences to generate income and raise brand awareness
• Develop cultivation events considering regional hotspots
• Acknowledge, thank and recognize donors appropriate to their level of support and ensure restricted gifts are appropriately allocated
• Manage donor database and reporting
• Support Smart Works’ local centres across the UK and share learnings and guidance to help others build their Major Gifts potential

As a Trusts Officer, you will be a part of our dynamic and high performing Major Gifts and Special Events team. About the role

This role is part of the trusts and statutory team of eight. In this role you will coordinate trust fundraising activity within a large portfolio of funders, identifying trusts and foundation prospects and writing high quality proposals and reports in collaboration with supportive colleagues in the team and across the charity. It is a permanent, full time position with an established portfolio of four and five figure trust donors, and the opportunity to grow this significantly in the coming years. Together with our other Trusts Officer, you’ll oversee the small trusts programme of regular supporters, create tailored approaches to bigger funders in your portfolio, and support other team projects and cultivation events.

• Cultivate strong working relationships with a portfolio of trust and foundation supporters increasing their engagement with and support of the charity.

The International Finance Manager will be responsible for all areas relating to financial activity in our international operations and will ensure appropriate global financial oversight of the growing network of local entities. The role will also support the development of new local entities as Better Cotton extends its global reach to ensure appropriate financial mechanisms are implemented in the new locations.

The focus on governance and internal controls is essential to support the growth in the different locations. There is also a requirement to delve in to the detail when appropriate whilst also being able to understand ‘the big picture’. Due to the nature of the role there will be a significant amount of overseas travel.

You will also lead the implementation of enhancements that addresses our international business processes and systems to drive efficiencies and strengthen controls, working closely with Finance Managers around the world.

This role will report to the Global Head of Finance. You will provide matrix management of country Finance teams i.e., Finance staff based in India, China, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan, and will work closely with the Programme teams for the development of Better Cotton’s operations in other countries. • Support local teams to develop new entities or to promote appropriate legal structure.

• Oversee the maintenance of adequate levels of financial governance for compliance with laws and regulations, help identify risks.

• Guide country teams on:
  • establishing locally relevant processes and policies to ensure compliance with Better Cotton processes and adherence to local statutory and tax requirements
  • developing accounting systems and controls and recruiting adequate Finance staff. Establish internal compliance audits to detect and prevent financial misstatements.
• Support the accounts set up and migration of records of local entities in the organisation’s accounting system.
• Ensure the external audit process for local entities is appropriate. Interact with local auditors when appropriate.
• Advise on local financial issues and conduct diversified ad-hoc analysis (impairment, working capital improvement, performance optimization).
• Advise on Tax and Finance aspects related to organisational changes and support to enhance financial governance mechanisms.
• Collaborate with Legal and Tax advisors to implement agreements.
• Ensure compliance with all local tax, filing and financial authorities requirements.

For Treasury Management, you will:

• Work with the Global Head of Finance to ensure coverage of treasury needs for local entities and local operations,
•  Support the management of currencies and the risks around FX fluctuations, and the implementation of mitigation strategies.

For Financial Controls and Risk Management, you will:

• Work with the Global Head of Finance to deliver the development, implementation, and maintenance of internal controls.
• Prepare internal documentation to support due diligence and internal controls.
• Lead analysis and documentation of technical issues for Better Cotton local offices and related entities to mitigate organisational risk and develop implementation strategies, working in close collaboration with the country teams.
• Review the financial risks for new investment developments for Better Cotton and drive appropriate policies to reduce organisational risk.
• Lead the risk assessment for Finance and review the financial risks for the overall organisation, working closely with the Finance Managers and country teams.
• Document and maintain updated the global risk register. Represent the Finance function in the Risk Register Working group.

For Systems and Process Improvements globally, you will:

• Drive forward a co-ordinated and well-thought-out roadmap of enhancements that addresses our business processes and systems to drive efficiencies and strengthen controls, including supporting the development of an ERP road map working closely with the IT & Country teams.
• Support the maintenance of the ERP road map, working closely with the IT & Country teams, to ensure it remains appropriate as Better Cotton evolves.
• Oversee the Global IT projects related to finance processes and data delivered by the IT team.
• Oversee the implementation of effective international change management process and documentation.

For other areas, you will:

• Work with the Global Head of Finance prepare pre-reads for Finance Committee and Council.
• Work with the Global Head of Finance for many aspects of functional management, including staffing and building an effective motivated team with the appropriate skills as the organisation develops.
• Design appropriate international financial KPIs for the Finance coordination team.
• Perform or assist with ad-hoc or Better Cotton special projects as assigned.

Bliss is the UK’s leading national charity for babies born premature or sick, and we are looking for a skilled Trusts and Foundations Programme Lead to join our enthusiastic and passionate Fundraising team. You will bring your skills in bid writing, stewardship, and high-value relationship management to deepen our engagement with trusts and foundations, and to identify and secure new opportunities for funding.

Historically, Bliss has worked with external consultant support to manage our trusts and foundations fundraising. This is a new role within the organisation as we look to take a more meaningful, relationship-based approach to our trusts and foundations donors. It’s a fantastic opportunity for someone with proven experience in trusts and foundations fundraising looking for a part-time position to make a real difference for babies and families.

Role Details 

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with proven experience in trusts and foundations to make a real difference as part of a small, dynamic and dedicated charity. Working closely with Bliss’ senior management team and managing the relationship with our fundraising consultants, you’ll work with a high degree of autonomy to strengthen and grow our support from trusts and foundations.

· Proven experience of writing bids to successfully secure five- or six-figure and multi-year grants.

The Role

You will provide strategic oversight and direction for the institutional fundraising function to deliver on the restricted and unrestricted income targets and line managing and leading the Trusts and Foundations Fundraiser in the delivery of the trust fundraising target.

Provide the prime bid writing function for institutional funders and Trusts and Foundations.

Work closely with the programmes team, both in the UK and overseas to provide leadership of high-quality bid production.

Research new possible funding opportunities and develop a strong pipeline of potential opportunties.

Manage relationships with key funders and be the lead contact for trust and institutional funders.

Keep up to date with the latest trends in institutional, statutory and trust fundraising.

The Candidate
A natural relationship based fundraiser able to build strong working relationships with inteternal and external stakeholders.

Strong experience of working in statutory and/or trusts fundraising, including successfully applying for grants in excess of £50,000+

Substantial experience interpreting and translating material into compelling content for successful proposals.

Demonstrable strong project and account management abilities.

Confident in the development of budgets to meet proposal requirements.

Strong problem solving ability and confidence to bring in new ideas and drive them forward

Experience of writing and communicating for different mediums and channels and applying writing and branding requirements to reports and documents.
