Role Purpose
This is a key role to oversee RDA UK’s approach to safeguarding, supporting senior management and working with external partners. This is crucial to maintain good practice, resources, quality and support to RDA Groups which includes driving RDA safeguarding training.
In addition, this role will include support and administration for the Membership Services Team, as detailed below
Specific Responsibilities
1. To ensure RDA UK has effective safeguarding practices:
• develop and deliver the action plan and ongoing objectives from the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) audit/ Framework Plan and RDA Safeguarding Action Plan
• continuous review of all safeguarding materials and resources, to ensure RDA UK’s Safeguarding policy and statutory obligations and expectations are met, including relevant actions following BEF Safeguarding Action Team (SAT) meetings
• manage requests for guidance from the RDA UK network, including concerns raised and reporting
• provide safeguarding case management, collaborating with the Membership Services Manager.
• work in collaboration with the RDA UK Designated Safeguarding Lead and other relevant RDA UK staff and volunteers to plan, deliver and review projects that improve outcomes for children and adults at risk, within the RDA UK network
• provide advice to the RDA UK team and working groups on safeguarding best practice, policies and requirements, including specific projects or events
• deal promptly with enquiries from RDA Groups concerning policies, procedures and training requirements and respond to feedback received
• maintain the safeguarding content on the ‘MyRDA’ website, ensuring it is current, clear and relevant
• provide guidance to RDA Groups signposting them to resources for disclosure checks
• develop and maintain safeguarding training materials, and coordinate the delivery of regular accredited courses and workshops (both tutor led and e-learning), in conjunction with RDA UK Trainers and relevant external bodies
• developing, maintaining and administering Safeguarding courses and materials
• support the Designated Safeguarding Lead to compile reports for the RDA UK Board, including case management data and analysis, updates and recommendations
• act as the Safeguarding Officer at the RDA National Training Centre, the RDA National Championships and other key events
2. To provide administrative support to the Membership Services Team as required.

a) To undertake such other duties as the line manager shall from time to time determine

The post-holder will maintain a manageable caseload of clients needing support with their welfare rights and benefits. The role is to support the Welfare Rights Advice Project Team with the following:
- To carry out an initial client assessment, identifying any issues with their benefits and any claims they can make to maximise their income.
- Provide casework (including challenging decisions) for welfare benefits available to clients with mental health difficulties and their carers: i.e. Personal Independence Payments, Universal Credit, Employment and Support Allowance and Housing Benefit.
- Provide information and advice as appropriate about issues related to a client’s particular situation.
- Provide advice and casework for mobility and discretionary schemes and personal grants that could be of benefit to clients.
- Take referrals directly from service users, carers or staff from other agencies (encouraging use of our online referral form)
- Signpost and refer clients to agencies that assist with transition from hospital to community living, or to tackle social isolation and improve mental wellbeing.
- Maintain records in accordance with Hear Us policies and procedures, including the handling of confidential and private documents and keeping written and computer records up to date and secure.
- Liaise with GPs, CMHT’s and other agencies to obtain supporting documents, by telephone, letter and e-mail.
- Taking confidential telephone messages from clients and outside agencies.
- Take part in weekly WRAP team meetings regarding case allocation, and stay up to date with changes in benefits legislation.
- Attend regular supervision and yearly appraisals with line manager.
- Assist WRAP manager to write reports and evaluate the project for funding bids and to support and promote the project.
- Collect and distribute flyers and leaflets for signposting purposes.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has a commitment to supporting empowerment through casework. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including cultural sensitivity and the ability to quickly build positive relationships and safely manage risk. You will work well as part of a small team, often under pressure and hold strong personal commitments to values of empowerment, respect and (striving for) social justice.
With the support of the CSS team, you will have responsibility for the coordination of casework support for all clients, and have an allocated caseload of clients with varying levels of support needs.
You will be supervising and supporting volunteers and the Caseworkers during two casework sessions a week. In addition, you will be working closely with the CSM to develop and transition our Casework service to an allocated caseworker model.
Flexible working hours will be considered around essential service delivery and meeting times.
This is a frontline role; the post holder must be able to work in the office with clients on a one-to-one basis. A flexible and solutions-focused attitude is needed, as the service adapts to clients needs.
Casework Service at ASSIST Sheffield
ASSIST Sheffield offers holistic support to over 50 people at a time that live in Sheffield and South Yorkshire and who have been refused asylum in the UK. Our casework forms part of the wrap-around support we offer to our clients and is intended to complement our other services such as accommodation and limited financial support and is in line with ASSIST’s vision ‘for all people seeking asylum in Sheffield to live life with dignity and hope for the future’.
ASSIST is always seeking to develop better ways of working with clients, to get the best possible outcomes for their future. At the heart of this is our 3-stage journey of tailored support and guidance for clients throughout their time at ASSIST which has been co-designed by our service users:
Stabilising - by providing short-term initial accommodation and financial payments, people experience safety and reduced risks around homelessness and poverty;
Planning for the future - through legal referrals, advice, signposting and long-term accommodation, people build resilience and confidence and see improvements in health and wellbeing;
Moving On - through providing support to re-engage with the asylum system and build social networks, people develop their knowledge, understanding and skills and thrive in the local community.
The Casework Coordinator role is key to enabling this transition to occur without compromising on client care.
We are a friendly and supportive team and service; working to do our bit to counter the hostile environment. Our Casework service embodies values of empowerment, respect and (striving for) social justice.
We want clients to be able to access casework support in order to address issues in a timely, supportive, informative and friendly manner. Our focus is on connecting people to opportunities, knowledge and services so they are able to access these and resolve their issues as independently as possible. If people need support to access their rights and entitlements, we will be alongside them to advocate to the best of our ability, for the best outcome.
We operate casework sessions twice a week and we have direct contact with all ASSIST clients via our monthly Welfare Sessions; in which money, essential provisions and more light-touch casework support (issues that can be progressed within 15 minutes) are available to every client.

About the role
We’re Scripture Union (SU), we’re one of the UK’s longest-established children and youth ministry organisations. We’re working in partnership with Exeter ICE (Initiatives in Christian Education), a schools ministry charity, to offer this unique role to reach many more young people across the South West of England.
We’re looking for a creative and entrepreneurial individual with a passion for helping children and young people across Exeter and the South West of England to explore and respond to the good news of Jesus. To do this, we’re offering two roles; Schools Worker and Rural Revealing Jesus Pioneer, which could be filled by one person as a full-time role, or two individuals working closely together.

A flexible role shaped around you

About ICE
For the last 36 years, ICE has been working in the schools across Exeter bringing faith to life. We interact with young people throughout their time in school sharing God’s love through our words and actions. We tell stories of what Jesus has done, open the Bible and invite them to consider for themselves who Jesus is and what that means for them.
We work in 20 primary schools, 5 secondary schools and the sixth form college. We connect with roughly 225 children and young people every week through our lunch time and after-school clubs. And over a year will reach around 5,000 young people through assemblies sharing bible stories, biographies of Christian heroes and the good news of Jesus.
(p.s we also give out about 9,000 biscuits every year too)
We are a charity with a small staff team, and a mighty team of over 40 volunteers who serve with us week in week out to make our work possible.
About your team
Like many jobs, you will work with lots of different teams in different contexts. With this role, you will have the benefit of being part of both a local-focused team and a second team with a regional focus.
If you take the role as a combined full-time position, you’ll work half-time out of the office of ICE, joining an exceptional team of 3, working face-to-face with young people in Exeter primary and secondary schools and colleges across Exeter, this work is term time only. You will also be a part of the SU South Region team of 5 workers at SU who work across SU’s largest region, from Kent to Cornwall. You’ll contribute your expertise in a variety of settings, ranging from urban and suburban to coastal and rural areas. You’ll have a brilliant time getting acquainted with this rich tapestry of local and national partners. Across the south region, we currently work with 130 churches and have 150 faith guides. We’d like to see these numbers grow significantly over the next few years. And if two candidates split the roles between them, both roles will have close working relationships with the other team.
The south region includes the south west of England brimming with distinct charm and rich cultural heritage, a tapestry of contrasts, where dramatic coastline and golden beaches seamlessly transition into ancient, brooding moors and vibrant, historic cities and rural towns. We are particularly interested in how sports, arts, and culture can be explored to further enable the mission and would be particularly interested in candidates with expertise in either of these areas. In the south region we have the highest density of Christian holidays and festivals, with events that we organise and run directly and also a variety of festival and missions that we support and partner with, you’ll have a fantastic opportunity each summer to get hands on engaged in these mission and festivals throughout the year.
Job description
The official title has two parts School Worker and Rural Revealing Jesus Pioneer. Here’s a brief breakdown of each:
Schools Worker – ICE
You will work in and around the city of Exeter as part of the schools team to plan and deliver assemblies, small group work, lunch clubs, and projects for primary and secondary schools to explain Christian faith - this will vary between working closely with colleagues, or working independently. You’ll be planning and filming short videos for occasional assembly viewing, liaising with volunteers from churches who have a connection with a school and liaising with the trustees of the charity in continuing momentum in the work.
Rural Revealing Jesus Pioneer - SU
You will work across the south west of England, with a particular focus on rural areas, multiplying your impact through equipping, empowering and mobilising others in outreach work. You’ll add energy, expertise, direction, and skill to the mix. You’ll recruit, motivate, train, equip and support Faith Guides; you’ll work in partnership with this group as well as leading by example, you will model excellent mission delivery to children and young people aligned with SU’s mission.

Location: You will be based in our office in Anerley. During term time, you will be visiting four Bromley schools weekly. In addition, you will need to be able to travel to other Bromley venues as required and occasionally further afield. Some hybrid working may be possible in this role in consultation with your line manager.

Salary: £29,300 per year pro rata to 28 hours per week (35 hours FTE)
Annual leave: 5.6 weeks per year including bank holidays, pro rata

What you will be working on:
- Plan and deliver accessible and engaging workshops within schools/colleges, taking the access needs and learning preferences of young Disabled people into account.
- Establish a working group to develop a Youth Forum for young Disabled people in the Borough to campaign and have influence around issues that affect them.
- Develop connections with other youth organisations to organise workshops in school holidays that appeal to young Disabled people.
- Promote our free membership and volunteering opportunities to young Disabled people.
- Develop the skills of young Disabled people so they can take up positions on our Trustee Board.
- Support young Disabled people to regularly evaluate the project and ensure that this data is updated on our database in a timely manner.

Job Title: Visitor Experience Manager
Hours of work: 21 hours per week.
Salary: £24,000
Annual Leave: 25 days plus bank holidays (Pro Rota)

Role Description
Working with other staff and volunteers, you will oversee the visitor experience to ensure a consistently high standard, delivering a wide-ranging programme of activities that will also attract a new and diverse audience to the Cathedral whilst maximising visitor donations and income.
Key Responsibilities
- Commitment to the Cathedral’s values and inclusive culture and to demonstrate them through professional behaviour working with clergy, staff and volunteers
- Management and oversight of visitor experience ensuring all visitors have a positive experience, whether they come to the Cathedral as a sightseer, pilgrim, worshipper, or event attendee
- Ensure safe recruitment, induction, training and management of paid Welcome Assistants to offer a consistently high standard of welcome and increase donated income
- Liaise with all volunteer groups involved in the visitor experience, including Welcome Stewards, Chaplains, Tower Tour Guides, Tour Guides, LEGO model builders to ensure consistency of welcome
- Deliver an exciting programme of visitor events and activities that generates income and growth whilst supporting the Cathedral’s Mission, Values and Strategic Objectives
- Make connections between Cathedral attractions, the Cathedral shop and Pilgrims’ Kitchen restaurant, and support a culture of collaboration to develop and enhance the experience for visitors
- Support the work of the Volunteer Manager to ensure that volunteers are appropriately recruited, valued, trained (particularly in respect of safeguarding), communicated with, and acknowledged)
- Work with the Head Verger/Event Manager on key projects which impact the visitor experience and drive visitor footfall
- Work with the Head Verger/Event Manager to propose and develop new and innovative projects/exhibitions to appeal to the local, and repeat visit, audience
- Be proactive in key events/projects which have a direct visitor impact, in terms of planning, scheduling and onsite operations
- Work with the Marketing and Communications Manager to ensure a consistent visitor offer ensuring positive messaging and promotion and highlight good news and events
- To present the best possible image of the Cathedral in general and in all contact and communications with the public, visitors, suppliers and all other external organisations
- Ensure high quality effective signage is in place that promotes the activities of the Cathedral and supports the visitor experience
- Maintain high quality interpretation in a range of media to meet differing visitor needs
- · Act as the ‘accessibility and diversity champion’ to ensure the Cathedral buildings, facilities and services are accessible for visitors with mobility and other special needs, as well as being involved in projects to create a wider appeal, particularly more diverse audiences
- Be alert to opportunities to work with partners in the town and County to bring visitors to the Cathedral
- Produce and manage a relevant and realistic budget for Visitor Experience and ensure operation within that budget are constantly monitored, forecasting and reporting performance against budget in conjunction with the Chief Finance Officer
- Regularly review, analyse, and report on visitor statistics to identify next steps and future requirements
- Uphold and comply with the organisation’s policies and the law in relation to health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding, data protection and other adopted policies and procedures as required
Person Specification
Essential Qualities
- Sensitive to the Cathedral’s core mission as a place of worship, outreach, welcome and care, which underpins its commercial activities
- Experience in leading people within a visitor-focused operation
- Background in heritage, tourism or hospitality

Probationary and notice period
In accordance with current Chapter Policy, the post is subject to a 12 week probationary period. After completion of the probationary period the notice period is one month.
Pension
After 12 weeks’ service, the post-holder with be auto-enrolled into a pension scheme with the Church Workers Pension Fund.
