Position Requirements:

• A minimum of five years of related work experience in major gifts fundraising or in the field of marketing and communications, preferably at a non-profit advocacy organisation.
• A proven track record of bringing in major donations of six-figure sums.
• Experience with Salesforce CRM preferred.
• A practical understanding of fundraising, GDPR and charity regulation.
• Knowledge of and proven ability to develop and implement fundraising strategies.

The role

As Community Engagement Officer you will play a key role in ensuring the Foundation achieves its objectives of engaging with and increasing physical activity levels amongst the four key priority groups facing the greatest inequalities: low socio-economic groups, women and girls, disabled people and people with long term health conditions, and culturally diverse communities. This will predominantly be achieved through the critical support you will provide to our ambitious PlayZones Programme, as we continue to roll the programme out across priority areas of the Country.

We have an ambition to deliver in excess of 200 PlayZone facilities by 2025. To realise this ambition, we’re going to focus on investing in safe, inclusive, and accessible facilities in communities with the greatest need. We will tackle inequalities in physical activity levels and create inclusive opportunities for our priority groups to become active through recreational formats of football and other sports and activities.

With a great deal to do, the role will be pivotal in working with local groups to support them through the application process, and to ensure high quality projects are being developed based on local community need.

The role sits within the Football Foundation’s Delivery Team, the team responsible for strategic identification and capital project delivery, reporting to the Community Engagement Lead and with responsibility for a portfolio of PlayZone programme areas within one of the Delivery Team geographical regions.

You will provide critical support to applicants and work extremely closely with our network of Delivery Managers & Officers to advise and agree community engagement plans for a range of Over £25k projects – helping to ensure their engagement is robust, but that applicants also receive support and guidance as required throughout the development of their application.

Community Engagement Officers will champion the benefits of great engagement, capturing good practice, identifying successful approaches, and share knowledge and learning across the Foundation and other stakeholders.

What are we looking for?

You don’t need to follow football to apply, but it is expected that you appreciate the power of sport to change lives and have a genuine interest in using your skills and experience to help the Foundation achieve our charitable and strategic objectives.

You must be educated to HND/Degree standard, or with the equivalent experience, with knowledge of how sports development can be used for community benefit. You must have strong communication and interpersonal skills with experience of communicating with and supporting a diverse range of colleagues and customers remotely.

Your knowledge of place-based working and how to best reach and engage with local communities will be key for this role, as well as your understanding of the inequalities that exist in supporting active lives across socio economic groups, women & girls, individuals with a disability or a long-term health condition, and culturally diverse communities. You will be aware of and have experience of dealing with the operations and challenges faced by community organisations, charities, and the voluntary sector.

You must be highly organised, with working knowledge of different project management techniques and experience of managing multiple projects at the same time. While not essential, experience of producing robust reports and of using dashboards to monitor the progress of projects would be useful.

Background Information

The Weir Link was established to replace what was a derelict laundry and community room with a new purpose-built building which opened on the Weir Estate in June 2010. The charity’s principal aim is to provide educational, training and social opportunities that ‘bring the community together’ from all areas and backgrounds across the streets and estates within the local area.

To date the building has been used as the base for a Children’s Centre, Nursery (currently operated by London Early Years Foundation (Leyf)), a Volunteer Project as well as a range of other Fun Days, coffee mornings, community meetings and social get togethers. In addition to the nursery, which occupies the largest rooms of the building, there are additionally two office spaces and a meeting room available for community use. 

We currently run a range of weekly after-school activities, including a homework club, two stay-and-play sessions, an arts and crafts club and a Pilates class. We also facilitate other community activities, including yoga classes, ante-natal classes and local residents’ meetings.

Job Description

Key responsibilities

1. Ensure that all aspects of the management and operation of The Weir Link are carried out effectively and in keeping with the organisation’s mission, vision and values.

2. Manage the delivery of a high-quality programme of activities and events for the local community.

3. Manage current partnerships, both those organisations with long term rental agreements and those with whom we co-ordinate activities and services for the community.

4. Continue to develop and manage new partnerships in keeping with the aims and objectives of the business plan.

5. Line-manage the Facilities and Bookings Co-ordinator to ensure the building is well-maintained, safe and meets all statutory requirements.

6. Manage the co-ordination of website updates and social media posts in collaboration with our team members.

7. Work with the Trustees to implement the 3-5 year business plan, including a sustainable funding strategy.

8. Ensure an effective marketing strategy to continue to promote our activities and events to the local community.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of skills and experience as follows;-

1. Experience in business development and identifying potential development opportunities with other partners and organisations.

2. Experience fundraising and researching and applying for grants and funding opportunities.

3. Demonstrable success in project management, including experience of marketing and communications (both online and offline), as well as effective reporting and evaluation.

We are looking for a motivated, organised and reliable individual who is happy to take on these responsibilities while working closely alongside others in our small team.  Above all you will be flexible, resourceful, efficient and committed to contributing in a meaningful way to our local community.  As with all small organisations, sometimes we have to go above and beyond what is expected on a daily basis, but in return we can offer greater flexibility than other larger organisations.

This is a part-time, maternity leave role for 12 months in the first instance. We are able to offer a flexible working pattern, which would comprise of 15 hours per week across three days a week. The hours can be between 9.30 and 4pm every day, with the possibility of hybrid working (combining office-based and remote working) during the school holidays.

This role would suit a parent or carer who would like their hours to work around the school day and have flexibility during school holidays.

We're looking for someone to lead and develop our research team of staff and freelance research associates and be part of our Senior Leadership Team. We work with charities, foundations and public agencies to strengthen UK communities through action research. Fundraising

• Support the setting of the charity’s fundraising targets through the research and review of both external and internal fundraising activities.
• Maintain an up-to-date database of the charity’s fundraising activities and campaigns.
• Collate the agreed metrics (including income and expenditure) and report on a weekly basis.
• Participate fully in the generation of fundraising ideas and activity selection.
• Design, prepare and implement the agreed activities and campaigns, which are likely to be varied in nature and might include dedicated fundraising events, grant applications to support families in disadvantaged socio-economic groups, and legacy generation.
• Recommend changes and updates to the activities and campaigns based on testing and evidenced data.

We are looking for a creative, ambitious and supportive team member to work across the fundraising and communications department and help us build awareness and engagement with our key audiences, especially hospital teams.

As Communications and Fundraising Assistant, you will play a particularly prominent role in telling the story of what Charity funding makes possible at King’s – generating high quality content to communicate the difference we’re making, and helping our communications officer to bring it to life it on our digital channels. It will suit somebody who uses social media extensively in their personal life and can draw on that insight to help the team connect with our audiences.

Key Tasks

• Working with the Communications Officer to create content for websites, digital platforms, social media, email campaigns and other channels. This includes the Trust’s Inside King’s magazine as well as our own channels. It could involve interviewing staff, patients and volunteers, creating films, taking photographs.
• Organising, distributing and updating the Charity’s marketing materials around the Trust, including posters, leaflets and banners.
• Helping to maintain the Charity’s social media presence, creating and scheduling engaging content across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, producing analytics reports and using insights to inform future strategy.
• Developing our use of Sharepoint as an internal communications channel, and maintaining the Charity’s presence on the King’s staff intranet.
• Helping the Communications Officer keep our website fresh and engaging, identifying key user journeys and supporting colleagues across the charity to use the website to achieve business goals.
• Acting as a champion for the Charity’s work by attending regular events and assist in delivering internal engagement opportunities, such as fundraising events, celebrations, and so on.
• Generating reports on the team’s KPIs across all digital platforms, helping to improve user journeys across our digital platforms.
• Keeping communications and fundraising systems running smoothly, including the media library, filing systems, budget, and planning and reporting processes.
• Building effective relationships with digital suppliers such as website agency.
• Acting as an ambassador for and representing the Charity in a professional and efficient manner.

Person Specification

• Experience of working or volunteering in marketing or communications in a professional environment.
• Experience of supporting an organisation’s digital presence across social media, website, email marketing and internal channels.
• Extensive personal experience of using social media platforms
• Understanding of basic digital analytics tools and processes, such as Google Analytics.
• Experience of creating communications and marketing content and materials in adherence with brand guidelines.
• Ability to express ideas clearly to a wide range of audiences, turning complex information into compelling.
• Experience of using website content management systems (ideally Drupal) email marketing software (we use DotDigital), social media management tools (Hootsuite) and design programmes (Adobe Creative Suite).

Reporting to the Senior Fundraising Manager, you will be instrumental in supporting our Fundraising team across; Trusts & Foundations, Major Donors and Individual Giving.

• Leading on the delivery of 2 x Individual Giving appeals per year (Big Give);

• Acting as the Relationship Manager for a small pipeline of Trust and Foundations;
• Assisting in the planning, administration and delivery of fundraising and stewardship events;
• Assisting in regular reporting and updates to both staff and funders;
• Working with our Finance team to track donation payments, process invoices etc;
• Supporting the Senior Fundraising Manager and the Communications team in the online planning, administration and analysis of Individual Giving Programmes;
• Supporting with copywriting and pulling information together to share with funders;
• Support with management of donation platforms;

Our mission is to help children and young people have a fair chance to be who they want to be. We do this by providing a safe home, increasing life skills and self-confidence, and improving emotional wellbeing and mental health.

YMCA West Sussex Transitional Housing provides safe, secure accommodation for young people aged 18-25, who have been, or are at risk of homelessness. Our staff team comprises of Supported Housing Support Workers, Housing Mobile Night Workers and two Supported Housing Managers. We offer a support package alongside the accommodation to actively encourage residents into education, training, employment or voluntary work.

In delivering the role, you will work with the Deputy Supported Housing Manager and the wider housing team to provide effective day to day management of our transitional accommodation service. You will have your own caseload of residents, working creatively and effectively alongside young people to develop their assets and talents and to acquire the skills they need to live independent and fulfilling lives. You will contribute to the smooth and safe running of the service by providing consistency and reliability. You will have a calm, yet assertive manner, being able to handle potentially difficult situations. You will also support young people to safeguard themselves against abuse and risk. There will be times when lone working will be a requirement for this role.

This role is based on site in Horsham and will cover Transitional services across Horsham, Crawley, Burgess Hill and Worthing. Your working hours will be Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
