Policy Officer

Bowel Cancer UK is the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. We’re determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. We support and fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.

Job Sumnmary for Policy Officer 

We are looking for a Policy Officer to join our Policy and Influencing team. You will build on your policy experience, responding to and shaping policy to ensure it drives real change for people affected by bowel cancer. You will turn complex issues into clear, actionable insight for colleagues, partners, and decision-makers, and contribute to evidence-informed positions that support the charity in influencing health policy. You will also lead on your own policy areas and work closely with our bowel cancer community to ensure their experiences inform and shape our work.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience

• We welcome applicants from a broad range of experience and background, specifically spanning policy, science or health
• Some direct experience of working on policy issues in health, or a relevant sector, and a willingness to develop these skills further, alongside an interest in those issues affecting bowel cancer patients.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

• Good verbal, written communications and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively and adapt style to different audiences. Including the ability to explain information clearly and encourage colleagues to understand different points of view
• Proven ability of strong analytical and research skills to identify and solve a range of problems
• Good interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills
• Understanding of the health policy and political environment
• Excellent organisational, time and project management skills with the ability to prioritise work, handle conflicting demands and meet tight deadlines on defined work areas
• Proven ability to support the day-to-day management of specified projects, proving some technical input in the project planning stage.
• Knowledge of the health service and health service policy issues. Awareness of cancer issues and bowel cancer in particular is desirable

About The Role
We’re looking for a Marketing Officer to join our thriving Events Marketing team. If you enjoy creating meaningful marketing campaigns, working collaboratively, and using data to make a difference, we would love to hear from you.
In this role, you’ll help plan and deliver primarily digital, multi-channel marketing campaigns that inspire people to take part in our sports, challenge, and mass participation events. Your work will play a direct part in growing our community of supporters and increasing the impact we can have for people affected by dementia.
About the team
You’ll be part of a close-knit team made up of a Senior Marketing Manager, two Event Marketing Campaign Managers, and three Marketing Officers. You’ll report to one of the Marketing Managers and work alongside colleagues across the wider Events team and Income and Engagement directorate.
Your marketing campaigns will bring new participants to our events, and you’ll also be involved in retention strategies to cross-sell our supporters into other fundraising products to build lasting relationships and help them discover other ways to get involved.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll collaborate with teams across the organisation, as well as with our media agency and external partners, to plan, brief, optimise and evaluate marketing campaigns. You’ll keep a close eye on performance and organise evaluations to make sure that we learn as much as possible from every campaign and continuously improve what we do.
You’ll take ownership of your campaign budgets, including setting and tracking spend carefully and working with colleagues to make the most of every pound we spend. You’ll share updates on performance and flag any opportunities or challenges early, helping the team stay on track and maximising the return on investment wherever possible.
Creativity is a big part of the role too. You’ll write engaging marketing copy, research ideas for campaign creative, and work with designers to bring those ideas to life. After each campaign, you’ll pull together insights and recommendations to help shape future activity.

Sessional Farm Education Assistant

Based at Oasis Southampton City Farm, Green Lane, Southampton SO16 9FQ

Hourly Rate: £12.73 per hour

Oasis Southampton City Farm is a community focused registered charity working in Southampton. We provide a range of supportive, wellbeing boosting, and nature-based activities for our communities, which include young people and adult learners with disabilities.

We are looking for sessional farm assistants who will support the Farm Lead in delivering the vision for the farm by supporting the delivery of the farm’s variety of activities, including:

 · To deliver youth activities on the farm, supporting young people to help care for the animals

· To deliver birthday parties on weekends to groups of up to 30,

· To deliver animal experiences, giving families the opportunity to meet and greet our rescued and rehomed animals

· To support our adult day service with caring for our animals

· To support with the animal cleaning and feeding rota, alongside groups or individuals.

· To support with the running of our café, which runs on the weekends. Working alongside our youth volunteers to serve refreshments and food.

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate:

· Relevant qualifications and experience in animal management/public sector

· Relevant qualifications and experience in youth work, teaching, or community based projects

· The flexibility to work across the week, including some weekends.

· Excellent verbal communication skills

· Proven ability to work alongside others in projects that work with the public.

· Punctuality, reliability, and honesty.

· Ability to always evidence the Oasis ethos and values.
