Project & Fundraising Support Officer

Location: Haywards Heath (office-based, with some travel in West Sussex)
Salary: £24,000–£26,000 (35 hours/week)
Contract: Fixed-term (12 months, with intention to extend depending on funding/performance)
Benefits: 25 days holiday + bank holidays, 5% pension, enhanced sick pay

About the role
This is a varied, entry-level role offering hands-on experience across programme delivery, fundraising, communications and administration. You will support our UK nutrition project - the IMPACT Tasty Team - helping deliver community sessions, recruit volunteers, liaise with partners, monitor activities and support fundraising and reporting.

You will also contribute to IMPACT's wider international work, including assisting with fundraising proposals and donor engagement, supporting communications and social media, and helping manage relationships with international partners in Asia and Africa.

About you
We are looking for someone highly motivated, proactive and eager to learn. You will have strong communication and organisational skills, a flexible approach and the ability to work both independently and as part of a small team. A genuine interest in nutrition, community projects, international development and fundraising is essential.

Some relevant experience (paid or voluntary) is desirable but not required.

You will join a passionate team of nine at a critical time for children and young people’s mental health, working in a fast-paced environment supported by an open and communicative style. The team champions collaboration and works closely with colleagues across Anna Freud.

What you’ll do

You will lead Anna Freud’s fundraising strategy and team to deliver sustainable income growth from approximately £5 million annually across diverse income streams, ensuring strong stewardship, pipeline development, and strategic leadership to support the organisation’s mission. You will work closely with the Fundraising Committee and heads of department. You will oversee a team of nine, including three direct line reports.

What you’ll bring

You will demonstrate experience as a senior fundraising leader with a strong track record of securing income from multiple high value sources, driving multi-stream fundraising growth, and providing strategic, people focused leadership in a complex and mission driven organisation.

Essential skills and experience:

• Proven success in high‑value fundraising, including cultivating and sustaining long‑term relationships with major donors, trusts, foundations and corporate partners.
• Significant experience developing and delivering multi‑million‑pound fundraising strategies that meet ambitious income targets and deadlines.
• Expertise in funding project and programmes of charitable work, as well as growing unrestricted income
• Demonstrable leadership across multiple income streams and fundraising portfolio management, with the ability to manage, motivate and develop teams through periods of change and growth.
• Excellent relationship‑building and communication skills, enabling the candidate to navigate complex funder relationships, deliver outstanding partner stewardship and produce compelling cases for support.
• Strong strategic thinking and planning abilities, with the capacity to translate organisational goals into effective, insight‑driven fundraising approaches and develop income products.

Key details

Hours: full-time (35 hours per week).

Salary: £70,000 per annum FTE, plus 6% contributory pension scheme.

Location: hybrid working (a mixture of onsite and home/remote working). Staff are working onsite for at least 20% of their working hours at our London office (4-8 Rodney Street, London N1 9JH).

Job Purpose

The Director of Data Science, AI and Research leads our outstanding Data Insights Team which has expertise across data engineering, analytics, data science, machine learning, generative AI, and psychology, and works to provide insights which enhance our services and which we share with others in the sector, policy makers and politicians, service users and the general public.

The Director of Data Science, AI and Research works directly with the CEO and plays a central role in leading the strategy and development of the organisation, and is responsible for key external relationships across government, the mental health sector, funders, and researchers.

Key Responsibilities

• Developing and leading MHI's long-term data insights strategy, including developing and managing external data insights partnerships with academic researchers (e.g., IGHI at Imperial College London), government (e.g., Department of Health and Social Care), and other stakeholders in the sector (e.g., CTL, and other mental health charities), and policy makers.
• Member of the Senior Management Team, contributing to development and delivery of organisational strategy, and acting as MHI spokesperson/representative where relevant.
• Leading many of MHI’s key external relationships, including those with key supporters and funders such as The Jensen and Lori Huang Family Foundation, Google, the Wellcome Trust, and AWS.
• Recruiting, retaining, and managing members of the Data Insights Team
• Analysis and reporting of service data and data insights, to support decision making within MHI, to help develop new products, and for external use (e.g., media, funders, keyword partners).
• Writing funding applications to support the data insights work, and managing relationships with funders including annual reporting and updates.
• Managing relationships with external contractors who support the Data Insights Team (e.g., AWS, AWS suppliers, AI and data engineering support).

Person Specification

Essential

Strong experience with recruiting, retaining, and managing data professionals /  scientists.
Experience with developing data and organisational strategy at a senior level.
Deep understanding of data analytics, data science, AI and machine learning, and qualitative approaches.
Experience engaging with a broad range of  senior internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrable knowledge and experience in mental health / psychology / neuroscience.
Excellent attention to detail, rigour, and thoroughness.
