External Communications Manager

Salary: £40,000–£42,000 FTE
Hours: 30 hours per week
Location: Remote, with regular travel to FitzRoy services, team and stakeholder meetings as agreed. The role requires attendance in London once per month and applicants must be able to commute to services in Norfolk, Nottingham and Hampshire.

About the role

As External Communications Manager, you will help build FitzRoy’s profile and reputation by identifying the stories, insight and opportunities that show what good support looks like in real life.

You will work closely with the Head of Communications, fundraising, business development and operational colleagues to turn external communications priorities into practical plans, content and opportunities.

This is a delivery role with real influence. You will be expected to bring ideas, advise colleagues, shape practical plans and turn opportunities into action.

What you will do

You will:

• develop proactive external communications activity that raises awareness of FitzRoy’s work, expertise and impact
• spot opportunities for FitzRoy to contribute constructively to sector conversations
• identify realistic opportunities for media, sector press, partner or local coverage
• gather stories, photos, video and quotes that help people understand what good support looks like in real life
• use social media, website content, audience insight and analytics to strengthen FitzRoy’s external profile

About you

You may come from charity communications, PR, journalism, public affairs, stakeholder communications or another external communications background.

You do not need to have worked in social care before, but you will need to be interested in people, willing to learn quickly and able to handle stories about people’s lives with care, respect and good judgement.

We are looking for someone who is:

• an excellent writer and editor
• confident developing clear, accessible content for different audiences
• warm, curious and able to build rapport quickly
• able to spot strong stories, ideas and opportunities
• confident creating social media and website content shaped by audience insight
• comfortable working independently and managing competing priorities
• able to think strategically about audiences and influence, while being practical about what can be delivered in a small team
• confident gathering content including photos, videos and quotes
• willing and able to travel to FitzRoy services and meetings as needed

A full clean driving licence and access to a car for work travel are required, as some services are not easily accessible by public transport.

Salary: £39,912 per annum (pro-rated for part time hours). We are an accredited member of the Living Wage Foundation.

Location: Remote/Hybrid. (Hybrid approach with regular working from home days. A degree of flexibility will be required, including some travel to client sites as well as infrequent travel to Unseen’s head office in Bristol).

Purpose of the role:

The Manager of Business (Consultancy) will play a key role in ensuring the effective delivery and rigorous quality assurance of a range of business services to clients. Working within a growing, dynamic team, the successful candidate will initially hold oversight of our training and eLearning programmes, with the understanding that this function may be separated from the role as the team expands. They will ensure our range of consultancy and training services are delivered to a consistently high standard, sensitively, with compassion, and with a trauma-informed approach, whilst simultaneously evolving our team frameworks, internal systems, and operational risk controls.

This is a pivotal role that sits at the heart of Unseen’s response to worker exploitation, engaging with business clients, developing avenues to increase our range and quality of services, and supporting a growing multi-faceted team to deliver on one of our priority areas. This role demands a flexible approach to deliver in-depth and complex services to businesses, alongside a sharp focus on mitigating operational, data, and reputational risks. It also requires a confident communicator with a keen eye for detail, but with the ability to step back and see the bigger picture. The role requires an individual with a proven track record of managing, coaching, and delegating effectively to a diverse team while protecting workloads and well-being.

The successful candidate will possess experience navigating complex corporate stakeholder environments, confidently engaging with senior leadership, and handling difficult conversations. Competence in synthesising diverse datasets and using CRM tools to transform data into actionable strategy is essential. An understanding of worker exploitation and human rights risk management in complex value chains is desirable.

The Support & Training Coordinator role involves:

• Managing onboarding processes for new facilitators attending training, ensuring clear communication of expectations and timelines, including safeguarding checks
• Supporting the Support Coaches by coordinating essential ongoing facilitator engagement: including group calls, follow up sessions, communication touchpoints and additional resources
• Coordinating the logistics of monthly facilitator training sessions, including placing orders, liaising with suppliers, monitoring stock levels and order numbers, and overseeing communications and systems
• Developing and maintaining systems that monitor and support the full facilitator journey — from onboarding through to ongoing support

Hackney Empire is looking for a new Deputy Technical Manager.

The new role of Deputy Technical Manager will play a critical operational and leadership role within our busy 1,250-seat theatre and additional rehearsal and event spaces. Supporting the Technical Manager, you will lead and motivate a committed technical team to ensure the flawless execution of large-scale transfers, touring musical theatre, dance, opera, comedy and live music shows; supporting produced work and public-facing activity from our Creative Futures programme. 

This is a balanced, hands-on and production-focused role. It requires combining administrative and logistical preparation - such as advancing technical riders, developing costings and estimates and preparing staff rotas - with leadership and delivery of high-level stagecraft management during intensive fit-ups, show operations and rapid get-outs.  

Hackney Empire is looking for a new Theatre Technician.

The Theatre Technician plays a vital operational role within our busy 1,250-seat theatre and additional rehearsal and event spaces. Supporting the technical leadership team, you will deliver exceptional hands-on technical support across stagecraft, lighting, sound and rigging systems to realise the creative ambitions of visiting companies and in-house productions. 

This is a production-focused role that requires combining physical, high-level stagecraft management during the intensive fit-ups, live show operations and rapid get-outs with a proactive approach to health and safety, equipment maintenance and visiting company care.
