Community Fundraiser

At CHAS, we are on a mission.  We’re going to make sure wherever there is a child in Scotland with a life shortening condition their family know about the vital support we can provide. To do this we need to reach into every community across Scotland and this is where you come in! We are looking for a driven and ambitious individual to join the Community Fundraising team.

You will be responsible for getting out into the local communities of Aberdeenshire and Dundee, raising awareness and engaging your supporters in their fundraising. You will grow and develop existing relationships and support as well as creating new community fundraising activity. You will be working alongside an amazing Fundraising and Communications team covering the whole of Scotland. You will manage a fantastic group of existing CHAS volunteers and grow your volunteer networks.

Key Responsibilities

• Relationship management of existing and new community fundraising supporters and volunteers
• Create new, cost-effective, community-based fundraising activities within a specific geographic area, ensuring contacts are established and maintained
• In line with the community fundraising strategy, take the lead on a specific income stream, developing materials and fundraising activities
• Provide market-intelligence and research on the community fundraising function, enabling future planning of activities within CHAS
• Regularly present complex fundraising information to groups, including existing and potential supporters
• Delegate work to volunteers, ensuring appropriate support mechanisms are in place and that individual skills are utilised appropriately

About you

In order to successfully drive fundraising and support for CHAS in your area, you will work co-operatively with colleagues, form meaningful relationships with others, demonstrate initiative, act with integrity and be accountable for your actions and decisions. You will also have:

• Experience of growing external financial support by developing new contacts and networks
• Experience of events and/or project management and the processes involved in a delivering a successful event and/or project
• Advanced level of communication and presentation skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and related software applications
• Highly developed inter-personal skills

Introducing Harington 

Harington is an Ofsted registered specialist college based in North London rated good, working with around 52 young people with learning differences aged 16-25. Our mission is to create an inclusive environment, that delivers outstanding personalised education, learning, and support, which leads to further education, employment opportunities, and a fulfilling life for each of our students.  

We specialise in horticulture, retail and general employability. Our students undertake individualised learning programmes and supported internships that lead to vocational qualifications and achieving other aims. We support the wellbeing of our young people through providing mentoring, counselling, enrichment and other one-to-one support.

Our charity has two learning centres in Highgate and Hornsey. We also operate a gardening business and two charity shops, providing income for our charity, work experience placements for our students and employment for 14 young people. The Role 

We’re looking for a senior fundraiser who is a skilled writer, a strong partnership builder and someone with a passion to improve the outcomes of young people with learning differences. This is a new post and you will have an opportunity to shape the role.

The person 

The role will suit someone who has had some prior experience in successfully raising funds ideally from trusts and foundations and/or from community fundraising. You are IT savvy and know how to use social media to grow an audience and design materials to effectively communicate a good cause. You are open to learning and to sharing your creativity and skills with others. 

Essential skills 

You will have:-

• 18-24 months of prior fundraising experience 

• Experience of successfully prospecting for, preparing and managing fundraising bids and stewarding funder/commissioner relationship

Work Context:

The post holder will be highly motivated and organised to research, identify and build new and existing relationships with local businesses and community organisations in order to increase unrestricted income and engagement for the charity.

We are working in partnership with RABI who are looking to appoint an Individual Giving Fundraiser to join their team.  In this newly created role, the Individual Giving Fundraiser will be primarily responsible for developing and managing individual giving income, in conjunction with other fundraising disciplines.

At the heart of agriculture and the farming community, RABI provide practical, financial and mental health support across England and Wales, to empower farming people to become financially resilient, so short-term monetary problems don’t create negative life-changing impacts.

The new Individual Giving Fundraiser will join a small, but successful fundraising team, producing compelling fundraising communications, stewarding individual donors, including regular donors and gifts in memory, ensuring that donors receive excellent care. Alongside this you will manage the relationship of their incumbent fundraising agency week by week.

You will have:

• Prior experience of working in a fundraising setting, an understanding of good stewardship practices, donor recruitment and retention, and a proven track record of meeting or exceeding targets from unrestricted donations.
• Effective relationship management and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to maximise engagement with donors and supporters. A thorough understanding of individual giving, the donor journey, and individual giving programmes, with experience of working with agencies would be an advantage.
• Marketing or direct marketing experience (e.g. telemarketing) and be able to create and tailor engaging and emotive copy for a range of different channels.
• Planned and delivered activity, managed projects, evaluating results including accurate record keeping using a CRM system.
• A positive and creative approach to work, thriving in a dynamic environment, with a variety of teams, meeting multiple deadlines and the ability to multitask.

We would like to hear from you if you are self-motivated and confident working independently and in a team. With excellent communication skills and good numeracy skills, you will be proficient in MS Office (including Excel and Word) and have a thorough understanding of Data Protection and fundraising regulations, compliance and best practice.

The Role

As Trust Fundraiser you will play an integral part in the collaborative fundraising team and be responsible for a range of duties including:

As the Major Donor Fundraiser, you will be creating and implementing a strategic targeted program of Mid Value, Major Donors, HNWI's, Corporates, Trusts and Foundations fundraising. You will be developing and implementing tailored funding applications, with responsibility for ensuring compliance in any agreements.

The ideal candidate will be a confident fundraiser with broad experience on fundraising principles, major donor programs and corporate giving. You will have extensive experience of managing major donor programs and an understanding of fundraising and marketing within animal welfare and international organisations.
