Job description

Who are we

University Hospitals Birmingham Charity is the official charity for University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust, supporting some of the busiest hospitals in Birmingham – Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital.

The Charity is dedicated to improving the experience of patients, their families and the staff who care for them.

UHB Charity raises funds to support patients by providing new and innovative equipment, funding research and supporting patient and family welfare projects.

What we can offer you

Charity staff have access to many of the opportunities provided to NHS staff including:

  • NHS staff counselling
  • NHS staff discounts
  • UHB staff inclusion networks such as LGBT+, BAME, Neurodiversity, Disability
  • UHB Chaplaincy
  • UHB online training courses
  • Annual flu and COVID vaccinations for all age groups
  • Free eye tests

In addition the Charity offers staff:

  • 27 days holiday (pro rata if part time), plus bank holidays
  • 8% matched pension contributions
  • Annual training budget to spend on training of your choice
  • The opportunity to see the difference the Charity makes first hand (e.g. visiting projects before/after, speaking to patients, families and staff)
  • The opportunity to be part of a kind and connected team working across 4 sites, but with weekly team meetings, regular team socials and annual team away days

The Role

This position is based at Solihull Hospital.

For the full time post, the expectation is that the successful applicant will be based on the hospital premises four days a week, with the opportunity to be home based or hospital based on the fifth day. For the part time post, the expectation is that the successful applicant will be based on the hospital premises the majority of their working week. This is because the role involves a lot of engagement with the public and hospital staff.

This role is for someone with at least five years experience in fundraising within a Charity.

As Senior Fundraiser you will work closely with other members of the hospital charity, and will be responsible for delivering demanding fundraising targets from corporate and community fundraising groups both inside and outside the hospital.

This role will cover fundraising for all aspects of the hospital, including the hospital charity’s work with military patients.

You will be responsible for designing and implementing new fundraising projects, with the aim to drive income and increase engagement both across the four hospitals and also with the wider community.

As well as generating a substantial income stream for the Charity, you will also work alongside the Communications team to design a communications strategy that increases both engagement and income generated.

The post holder will also be involved in the organisation and delivery of fundraising events for the Charity. This role will involve regular evening and weekend work at charity events and events organised by our supporters.

Key duties

  • To drive and increase income from businesses, business network groups, community groups and individuals to advance the Charity's fundraising ambitions both individually and as part of a wider Fundraising Team.
  • To develop and implement a plan that will maximise opportunities for fundraising with businesses, community groups, clubs, societies and other groupings who have the potential to generate income for the Charity.
  • To develop and implement a plan that will maximise opportunities for fundraising with individual fundraisers and donors who have the potential to generate income for the Charity.
