In this Deputy Head of HR role, you will lead our Business Partnering & Advisory function by developing the HR Business Partnering model, managing a team of HR professionals, and ultimately embedding excellent people management practice across the organisation. You will also have a direct business partnering relationship with Relate at Family Action; providing strategic advice, coaching and operational HR support to senior managers, to support culture change post-merger. 

If you have significant experience managing complex employee relations and organisational change processes (including TUPE and large-scale restructures) and leading a team of HR professionals, we would like to hear from you. Here at the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospital Charity we fund, facilitate and champion world-class specialists to transform the lives of heart and lung patients. We provide clinicians, academics and researchers across London and beyond with the funding and resources they need to understand more, prevent more and treat more.

Our funding comes from the fundraising efforts of thousands of supporters as well as income generated by our investments in property and equity markets. We currently grant around £6 million each year – but we want to do more. 

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Administrator to play a central role in supporting the delivery of our HR and Operations functions.  This position is vital to ensure that all activity is recorded accurately,  that systems run smoothly and stakeholders receive an exceptional level of support.

You will be responsible for supporting the Charity's HR processes throughout the lifecycle of employees, sourcing and booking training and contributing to various HR and operations projects. In addition, you'll act as a point of contact for operational issues across the charity’s two sites (Chelsea and Harefield), ensuring safe, well-managed, and well-supplied working environments.

You'll be an experienced administrator with a strong understanding of office systems and processes. You'll bring excellent coordination and organisational skills, communicate clearly and confidently, and build effective working relationships across multiple workstreams. Comfortable juggling competing priorities, you will take a practical, solutions-focused approach and follow tasks through to completion.

We are looking to recruit an experienced HR Advisor to provide comprehensive HR support. You’ll play a key role in supporting the employee experience, providing top-notch support to all teams in the organisation and be comfortable working with all levels of seniority.  

Experience of employee relations will be pivotal in supporting the organisation as we transition to a unionised environment. Orbis UK is delighted to offer the role of HR and Governance Manager, a new position for the charity, as the organisation seeks to grow and build on past successes to reach its target of achieving £10m income in the next 5 years.

This role is critical to supporting a highly performing group of staff and trustees as we seek to transform lives through the prevention and treatment of blindness. This role will sit within the Business Support Team, which is responsible for the day to day running of the organisation and will be crucial in creating a revised HR strategy and ensuring that the organisation’s compliance with key statutory and regulatory requirements are maintained at all times. The successful postholder will work collaboratively with the Director of Finance and Operations to meet these objectives, but also will have a central role in identifying opportunities for growth within the HR and Governance function to ensure that good practice, wellbeing and compliance work hand in hand with one another and is embedded within the ethos of the organisation for the benefit of its staff and, ultimately, our beneficiaries.  

In addition, the successful postholder will work with the Board of Trustees to provide Executive Assistant level support to enable the Board to meet its obligations and to ensure that they can conduct the business of the charity in the most efficient and effective manner. You will be privy to sensitive and confidential information, attending meetings in order to take summary minutes and provide clerking services, including the issuing of papers, monitoring Companies House and Charity Commission requirements and acting as counsel to the Senior Management Team and the Board, where appropriate.

Human Resources Business Partner

We are hiring for a HR Business Partner.

This role involves providing a proactive and professional HR advisory service to all staff, with particular focus on partnering with line managers and heads of department, supporting the Head of Human Resources in delivering best practice across the employee lifecycle.

Position: VAC0148 Human Resources Business Partner

Location: London/hybrid (office based until after probation period)

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Salary: £42,627.34 p/a plus travel to work allowance up to £3900 pa

Contract: One Year Fixed Term

About the Role

The HRBP will act as a key point of contact for employment-related queries, ensuring compliance with legislation, internal policies, and the ethos of the charity. The role will include several exciting opportunities to improve HR processes and will be leading on a number of projects with this aim in mind.

Candidates should note an expectation of in-person attendance for this role for the first month in post, with the possibility to work from home one day per week after this.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

• Minimum Level 5 CIPD qualified or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrable experience working in a HR generalist capacity, providing excellent advice and guidance to all stakeholders including line managers and employees.
• In-depth knowledge of UK employment law and its application to the workplace.
• Experience using HR Information Systems (ideally MHR iTrent) with a focus on System Administration.
• Confident advising on and leading in complex ER cases.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to develop effective working relationships with all levels of stakeholders, cross-culturally.
• Experience of working with minimal supervision, providing accurate and timely support to all stakeholders.
• High level of discretion and diplomacy.

Role purpose:

The overall purpose of the role is to support the Head of HR and the EDI Lead to develop and deliver people management strategies which support the organisation's aims and objectives. This role will provide a comprehensive HR service, which ensures that managers and employees are equipped to foster and develop a high-performance culture within ShelterBox.

Working with our staff, the HR & EDI Business Partner provides guidance and support to all staff on the full range of HR activities including policy and procedure, absence, recruitment, retention, performance management, employee relations and reward.

The HR & EDI Business Partner is also responsible for working with, and supporting the EDI Lead, staff EDI Liaisons and EDI Champions to develop and embed EDI measures and strategies that support ShelterBox in continuing to build a positive and inclusive culture internationally.

Who are we looking for?

A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills you will be well-organised, have a keen eye for detail, be comfortable reviewing and improving processes, and can adapt to a fast-changing environment

This role needs someone who is a natural collaborator and is comfortable working with stakeholders across the organisation as well the ability to work autonomously to meet deadlines.

You will have experience in a similar position, implementing and working within a broad range of HR and EDI activities with up-to-date knowledge of Employment and EDI related legislation.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

Employee Relations:

• Provision of first-class, customer-focused support throughout the whole employee life cycle
• Provide HR advice based on best-practice and current legislation.
• Supporting the Head of HR in forming HR policies and objectives.
• Providing organisational wide communications
• Help establish organisational culture, including inclusion, equity and diversity and wellbeing
• Assist with the roll out of staff satisfaction surveys including analysis of results and subsequent action planning on next steps

HR Practice:

• Help develop forward thinking, compliant and appropriate HR policies, practice and operating procedures, ensuring their effective implementation
• Influence management decisions to comply with best practice
• Support teams and departments through formal HR procedures

HR Projects:

• Lead and deliver HR projects as assigned by the Head of HR
• Work with the Head of HR to contribute to, develop and implement the organisation-wide business plan and objectives

Recruitment & selection:

• Responsible for managing recruitment campaigns and provide applicant support
• Support recruiting managers with the selection process
• Coordinate and produce all onboarding paperwork
• Deliver new starter inductions

Pay and reward structure:

• Contribute to designing and developing a reward and benefit strategy to ensure regulatory compliance and alignment with organisational goals
• Evaluate and recommend improvements in line with sector benchmarks and wider market

Performance management:

• Coordinate annual review processes
• Help design and implement new performance management tools to create a high-performing organisation
• Assist with talent management and propose and help implement performance improvement programmes

HRIS Administration:

• Responsible for maintaining and leading administration of HRIS
• Provide reports to Head of HR and senior managers on teams and departments
• Monitoring and use of data analytics to identify interventions

Information management & communications:

• Ensure records are maintained in accordance with GDPR/data protection legislation
• Maintain records for all types of leave, providing monthly management reports

Health & Safety:

• Contribute to implementing, and ensuring the application of, policies, regulations, and standards relating to occupational health and safety
• Oversee and monitor sickness absence management
• Provide Family Liaison and Critical Incident Team support.

EDI:

• Work closely with the EDI Lead to provide leadership and support to the EDI team and colleagues across the organisation
• Help instil a culture of EDI at ShelterBox
• Manage and implement the EDI Action plan
• Identify opportunities internally and externally for EDI support and best practice
• Implement EDI best practice across the HR work at ShelterBox
• Provide EDI update communications to staff
• Help to coordinate EDI training and event support

Continuous Professional Development:

• Commit to CPD, especially legislative and best practice developments within HR and EDI, and those elements required for continued membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development
