Job description

About in2scienceUK

Our mission is to support people from low income backgrounds to achieve their potential and progress to science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) degrees and careers to become the innovators and pioneers of the future.

To date the charity has leveraged the support of hundreds of researchers to support over 2000 young people from low income backgrounds through a high impact programme involving STEM work placements, workshops and skills days throughout London, the South East, South West, East of England, the Midlands and the North West. Now, with many of our Alumni looking to the next stage of their lives, we are developing a new innovative programme, In2research, to support people to progress to PhDs. We are seeking an individual passionate about diversity and inclusion to lead this exciting new programme.

In2scienceUK is dedicated to promoting a diverse and inclusive workforce - a place where we can all be ourselves and succeed. We offer flexible working arrangements to support staff from all backgrounds

Role Summary

We are looking for a Project Co-ordinator to provide leadership and operational support in order to deliver a high-quality programme, In2research. This includes planning and overseeing all aspects of the project, to meet the project’s goals on time. It will require you to organise people, tasks and resources. You will be the go-to person for everything involving a project’s organisation, implementation and delivery. This role would suit someone who enjoys running programmes solving problems, with the ability to move fast and navigate ambiguity. The role is ideally based in London, with some regional travel required.

This role will include:

  • Project planning and management
  • Communication with a diverse range of stakeholders including academics, funders, consultants and young people via presentations, meetings, emails and newsletters
  • Conducting participant recruitment, screening and interviews
  • Supporting the logistics of online and in person events including workshops, mentoring, placements and away days
  • Managing relationships with participants, mentors and placement hosts.
  • Delivering administrative evaluation and reporting activities

Duties and Responsibilities

As the In2research Project Coordinator you will be someone who enjoys working with young people (age 21-30) and understands the barriers facing people from low socio-economic backgrounds in accessing postgraduate research degrees.

Your specific areas of responsibility will include but are not limited to:

Participant recruitment

  • Conducting participant recruitment and placement activities online or face to face, which may include university visits and working closely with organisations and academic institutions who also work with students, supporting them to promote this opportunity to students they work with
  • Conducting volunteer recruitment activities, which includes outreach to potential workshop leaders, mentors and other partnerships
  • Monitoring applications to ensure all targets and milestones are met.
  • Developing and maintaining close relationships with universities, mentors, placement supervisors and workshop leads

Programme Delivery

  • Leading the implementation and delivery of the In2research programme
  • Assisting with the marketing, administration and delivery of the programme including digital and onsite support
  • With the project collaborators and consultants delivering mentoring and supervising training and participant inductions and associated materials.
  • Coordinating mentoring sessions, workshops and placements.
  • Supporting the engagement of partner relationships.
  • Tracking project performance, managing risk assessments and ensuring projects are delivered on time, to budget with goals met.
  • Evaluating project processes, systems and impact

Administrative Activities

  • Ensuring the highest standard of record keeping are met, maintaining accurate, complete, and up to date records which comply with GDPR
  • Manage project administration including all documentation, project evaluations and results measurement
  • Reporting regularly to senior management on project progress.
  • Note taking and writing up of minutes from meetings
  • Attending and contributing to Departmental, Institutional and other meetings as appropriate

As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and amended in consultation with the post holder. The post holder will carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by their manager.
