Here at the Royal British Legion, we are currently embarking on an exciting new phase within our Membership directorate. As part of our new ten year strategy, we are pleased to be seeking a Director: Armed Forces Engagement, Partnerships and Youth in a newly created, senior leadership role.

Reporting to our Executive Director: Membership, Armed Forces and Community Engagement, this role will be a key contributor to the delivery of our strategy with the key focus on identifying and developing key partnerships that advance our vision of ‘‘Bringing Society Together to Recognise, Remember and Support the Armed Forces Community’.

This role will see you lead the development and implementation of an Armed Forces Engagement strategy, coordinate the delivery of RBL’s work across schools and youth organisations and develop and deliver a Cadet Forces Engagement strategy.

You will lead a high performing team of Heads of Department within our Membership directorate. Key areas of responsibility will include:

· Armed Forces Community Engagement:

o Develop and implement a robust armed forces engagement strategy

o Externally represent RBL at key AFC events to promote the work of RBL and to develop external relationships

· Partnerships:

o Develop opportunities to work in partnership with other organisations

o Develop strategic initiatives and partnerships to enhance camaraderie within the Armed Forces Community

· Cadet Force Engagement:

o Develop and implement a Cadet Forces engagement strategy aimed at both cadets and CFAVs which seeks to raise awareness and understanding of the role of the armed forces community

o Develop further opportunities for Cadet Force involvement with the work of the RBL

· Schools:

o In Partnership with the Remembrance Team, lead the development and approval of the RBL Schools and Learning Strategy

o Design the youth offer and affiliation model

· Membership Development:

o Create an innovative programme of events, groups etc that provide more and better opportunities for the Armed Forces Community to Connect

o Working with the Director of Membership and Communities, develop a vision for Membership 2035, which refocuses membership on the AFC and drives a transformational change in the membership offer

You will be contracted to our London Haig House hub with a minimum expectation of two days per week working in person at the hub and flexibility for working remotely/at home when not on site.

Should you wish to explore a Remote opportunity where you will be contracted to your home address with occasional travel (which will not include additional £4,452 London Supplement to salary), this can be discussed at interview.

This role requires a full UK driving licence.

What the job involves

As our Senior People Services Manager, you’ll lead the day-to-day heartbeat of People Services and make sure every colleague has a smooth, supportive and high-quality experience throughout their time with us.

You’ll be the person who keeps things running brilliantly: setting the pace for operational delivery, supporting managers with confidence, and making sure our processes are simple, clear and compliant – ensuring delivery through an experienced and high-performing People Services Team. You’ll work closely with People & Culture, Finance, IT and leaders across the charity to drive a consistent, joined up service that helps people do their best work.

This is a hands-on leadership role partnering with People & Culture leadership and peers to drive the People Strategy and foster a high-performance, inclusive culture. You’ll shape how we deliver People Services, spotting ways to improve, simplify and modernise what we do. You’ll lead a team covering critical activity relating to all stages of the employee lifecycle, from onboarding, contracts, HR systems and data, payroll oversight, policies and employee relations, and you’ll be the operational authority and escalation point for complex or high-risk issues.

Some of the work you and your team will be getting involved in includes:

• Leading and developing the People Services & Payroll team so they have clarity, support and space to thrive.
• Making sure onboarding, contracts, and offboarding all run smoothly and consistently, with a great colleague experience.
• Overseeing HR systems and data to maintain accuracy, insight and compliance.
• Working with People Experience & Communications colleagues to refresh and embed people policies in a way that feels simple and supportive and encourages co-creation.
• Coaching managers on inclusive, confident people leadership and helping them handle tricky issues with care and clarity.
• Taking the lead on complex employee relations cases, change processes or emerging risks, and ensuring we handle things fairly and consistently.
• Driving continuous improvement - whether that’s simplifying a workflow, introducing a digital tool, or building capability across the organisation.
• Providing operational insight to support strategy, planning, resourcing and decision-making at leadership level.

This is an influential role with real scope to strengthen how our People Services function supports the organisation every day.

What we want from you

We’re looking for someone who brings a blend of operational confidence, sound judgement, people leadership and a passion for improving how things work and who is comfortable and able to thrive in a fast-paced and reactive enabling function.

The ideal candidate will bring:

• Strong HR operations experience at a senior level, with CIPD Level 5 or equivalent knowledge.
• Expertise in employee relations, including handling complex or sensitive cases with fairness, clarity and confidence.
• Experience overseeing payroll operations and HR systems, with a practical understanding of data accuracy, GDPR and people metrics.
• A natural adaptability to changing priorities and an ability to build trust and influence across all levels - someone who can coach managers, support colleagues and work in partnership with senior leaders.
• A continuous improvement mindset: you enjoy simplifying processes, solving problems and creating clarity – and you naturally collaborate and take the team with you on journeys of change rather than imposing a singular view.
• Experience leading or developing a team, with a supportive, inclusive and empowering approach.

Additional in-person attendance will be required during your first few months for induction and training, to support you to learn the role and get to know colleagues.

About the Role

This is an exciting time to join us as we develop and invest to do more for people affected by lymphoma and to amplify the patient voice to decision makers. We are now looking for someone to support our Public and Patient Affairs Advisor in this growing area of work for the Charity. This is the perfect role for someone who has:

• Strong administrative and organisational skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
• Excellent written skills with great attention to detail.
• Good digital skills and willingness to learn new systems.
• Great team-working skills and ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and sensitively.

This is a new and key post to support this work which has grown over the last few years as we have inputted into more projects and had more external requests for patient support. The postholder will help us reach our policy goals to improve early diagnosis, access to treatment and care, patient involvement, and long term quality of life for people affected by lymphoma.

Additional information:

This is a hybrid role, offering the flexibility of office-based and home working. Proximity to Aylesbury is essential, as the postholder will be required to attend the office a minimum of once a week and more frequently during the induction period, as needed for meetings or to meet the needs of the role.

Job Summary - Senior Research Officer

We are seeking a confident and organised Senior Research Officer to join our small but ambitious Research Team. This is a hands-on role with real scope to contribute to how we fund and manage research, and to make a genuine difference to a programme that's helping to save lives.
 

The Senior Research Officer will lead the delivery of our grant funding processes from end to end - managing application rounds, overseeing the active portfolio, coordinating our scientific committees, supporting our research events and leading our approach to patient and public involvement in research. Working in a small, specialist team means you'll also have real scope to contribute ideas, help improve how we do things, and play a meaningful part in the development of the research programme beyond the day-to-day.

You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary clinically led Intensive Community Rehabilitation Team, within Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust. You will be managed and employed by Birmingham Mind, but you will be working as part of an integrated team including clinicians and a psychology team. You will be working with people who are experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties, supporting them in their own accommodation within the Birmingham and Solihull area. You will be completing interventions that have been identified in each service users’ care plans, Dialog+, which will help to strengthen and maintain skills, abilities and recovery.

Ideally you will be QCF/NVQ level 3 qualified or have a willingness to work towards this qualification. It is essential that you have an empathy for people experiencing mental health issues and are committed to service user involvement and empowerment. You will have a good understanding of equal opportunities, confidentiality, safeguarding and health & safety.

You will need to be flexible due to the shift patterns which include days (09:00 – 17:00), evenings (12:00 – 20:00pm), and weekends (every 7 weeks).
