Job description

We are looking for an experienced, influential and compassionate Senior Hospital Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (Senior HIDVA) to join our hospital-based domestic abuse service across London. Working closely with NHS safeguarding teams and partner agencies, you will provide specialist advocacy to victims and survivors of domestic abuse, strengthen multi-agency responses, and contribute to improved outcomes for some of the most vulnerable people accessing healthcare services.

This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week) based within NHS Hospital Trusts across London, with flexibility for some home working where service delivery allows. Regular travel between hospital sites and partner locations will be required to meet the needs of the service.

Do you want to use your domestic abuse expertise to make a lasting difference for victims and survivors?

Do you thrive in complex, fast-paced environments where partnership working and professional judgement are critical?

Can you influence practice, support colleagues and help strengthen the response to domestic abuse across healthcare settings?

If so, we'd love to hear from you.

What we offer

At Victim Support, we are committed to attracting and retaining the best talent. Our competitive rewards and benefits package includes:

  • Flexible Working Options: Including hybrid working.
  • Generous Annual Leave: 28 days plus Bank Holidays, increasing to 33 days plus Bank Holidays, with options to buy or sell annual leave.
  • Birthday Leave: An extra day off for your birthday.
  • Pension Plan: 5% employer contribution.
  • Enhanced Allowances: Enhanced sick pay, maternity, and paternity payments.
  • Exclusive Discounts: High Street, retail, holiday, gym, entertainment, and leisure discounts.
  • Financial Wellbeing: Access to our financial wellbeing hub and salary-deducted finance.
  • Wellbeing Support: Employee assistance programme and wellbeing support.
  • Inclusive Networks: Access to EDI networks and colleague cafes.
  • Sustainable Travel: Cycle to work scheme and season ticket loans.
  • Career Development: Ongoing training and support with opportunities for career progression.

About the Role

As a Senior Hospital Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (Senior HIDVA), you will provide specialist advocacy, risk assessment and safety planning for victims and survivors of domestic abuse identified within NHS hospital settings. Working closely with healthcare professionals, safeguarding teams and partner agencies, you will help ensure victims receive timely, trauma-informed support while contributing to effective multi-agency responses and improved outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage complex, high-risk domestic abuse cases.
  • Provide specialist advocacy, risk management and safety planning.
  • Act as a domestic abuse lead within hospital settings.
  • Support and mentor colleagues.
  • Represent the service within MARAC and multi-agency partnerships.
  • Deliver training and awareness sessions.
  • Strengthen partnership working across NHS and community services.

About You

Ideally, you will have experience working within a hospital, healthcare or safeguarding environment, knowledge of NHS safeguarding structures and referral pathways, and experience delivering training, presentations or awareness sessions to professional audiences.

You Will Need:

  • A recognised SafeLives IDVA qualification (or equivalent).
  • Significant experience supporting victims of domestic abuse, including those assessed as high risk.
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment, safety planning and safeguarding practice.
  • Experience working within multi-agency partnerships and legislative frameworks.
  • Good communication, negotiation and advocacy skills.
  • Experience supporting colleagues through mentoring, coaching or professional guidance.
  • The ability to build effective relationships with healthcare professionals, safeguarding teams and partner agencies.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and complex casework.
  • Experience using case management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • A commitment to continuous learning, reflective practice and delivering outstanding support to victims and survivors.
