CSAN is the official agency of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice affecting people who live in England and Wales. We’re facing a steep rise in poverty and significant pressures on social, economic and church resources. Currently, the Church is called to raise a prophetic voice against poverty and the rhetoric of division and work for the building of a more just society.

Over the last 20 years, CSAN has built up a network of 50 diocesan and direct service charities with a combined annual spend on social mission estimated at £400m, excluding the work of schools and religious congregations. Our members build up local community life in diverse ways, and many of them support individuals in difficulty, including with housing, prison and detention, social isolation, ill-health, violence, disability, employment, care, therapeutic and welfare support.

The key responsibilities of the post are:

1. To scan the social policy environment to capture developments in legislation, consultation papers and Bills relevant to the Caritas network for the purpose of comprehensive tracking and briefing.

2. To deliver an effective programme of Catholic advocacy and political campaigns that contributes to the common good, with particular attention to the priorities of the dignity of workers, child poverty, social care and end of life; supporting and connecting well with the team’s other activities, and where possible with the CSAN membership’s priorities,

3. To draft campaign and advocacy materials for the range of media channels used by CSAN and support the CEO in engaging with the press and approaches from campaigning organisations including contributing to CSAN’s social media networks.

4. To provide admin support and contribute to CSAN’s Alliances as required, especially the Advocacy Alliance and the Criminal Justice Alliance with information and education on policy and legislation.

5. To ensure that our advocacy is consistent with the Bishops’ understanding of the Church’s role in society and supports the priorities of the Bishops’ Conference, especially the Department for Social Justice.

6. To act as a conduit of information and communication between the Bishops’ Conference and the CSAN members, under the guidance of the CEO, assisting CBCEW where possible in gathering information and the lived experience of poverty.

7. To develop and contribute to practice materials for the network, especially in the areas of campaigning, advocacy, social policy and formation for mission.

8. To oversee monitoring of the Catholic press and relevant wider networks for relevant articles, developments and campaigns.

9. To support the general work of CSAN as required by the CEO, including leading in the development and organisation of the charity in specific areas subject to skills and experience.

The work of the small national team requires a high level of integrity and teamwork, respect for and capacity to navigate complex civil and church contexts at pace, and a stable commitment to personal formation and training. Our Policy and Public Affairs Officer (maternity leave) will bring a professional track record of relevant research and analysis, production of compelling communications, and diligent administration. A satisfactory basic DBS check and references are required.

• Provide person-centred support to enable clients to identify their health and wellbeing needs and goals. Co-produce support plans with clients to discuss what’s important, where they would like to be in the future and how we can support them to achieve this. 

• Manage and prioritise a caseload to ensure clients' needs, priorities and urgent support are met.

• MYcommunity Lambeth works in partnership with a large number of statutory and community services and organisations across the borough. You will link clients with appropriate services to meet their needs. It is vital to have a strong understanding of when it is necessary to refer someone back to health care professionals/ agencies when the client’s needs are beyond the scope of the MYcommunity team.

• Previous social prescribing experience.

• Able to write compelling communications to advocate for your clients. 

• Able to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.

• Able to analyse data and create engaging reports.

This is a community-based role involving regular travel across the area including local home visits, meetings, and direct support, with the flexibility to work from home based on business and community needs.

You will work closely with people living with dementia and their carers, providing ongoing support. You will listen carefully, understand what matters most to each person and offer guidance that helps them feel steadier and more confident as their situation changes.
Your days will be varied and meaningful. You might be visiting someone at home, offering guidance over the phone, and working closely with other professionals to make sure the right support is in place. You will manage your own caseload, keeping clear and accurate records, while always seeing the person behind the paperwork.

You will be part of a caring and dynamic local team who share ideas, reflect together and support one another. There will be time to meet as a team and opportunities to keep growing your knowledge of dementia, with your manager and colleagues alongside you.

About you

You will have:

- An understanding of dementia, or a willingness to learn about the experiences of people living with dementia and those who care for them.
- Experience providing information, guidance, advice or emotional support - this could be from health, social care, community, voluntary, customer service or other people focused roles.
- Confidence using IT systems to maintain accurate and confidential records.
- You will be able to listen and communicate, with the ability to build trust and rapport with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
- The ability to manage your workload effectively, with appropriate support and tools, and to balance competing priorities.
- A compassionate, non-judgemental and person-centred approach, with respect for diversity and individual lived experiences.
- The ability to travel independently.
- The confidence and ability to communicate with a wide range of people, adapting your approach to ensure understanding. You will be required to speak publicly at events about dementia, delivering information and signposting people to further resources and networks.

JOB TITLE: Service Manager

RESPONSIBLE TO: Chief Executive Officer

HOURS OF WORK: 37 hours per week

BASED AT: 11/13 Queen Street, Worksop, Notts, S80 2AN

HOLIDAYS: 28 days - including statutory holidays (pro rata)

SALARY: £34,000 per annum plus benefits

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Direct the work of Accommodation Officers and Wardens, ensuring that the team are working efficiently and effectively, providing continuity of service for clients.
• Ensure organisational standards are being met in the accommodation service across all Hope properties.
• Draw up rotas in advance for sign-off from the CEO.
• Monitor staff attendance and report absences promptly to the Management Team.
• Motivate the team through regular one to one supervisions and by modelling good  practice.
• Monitor and manage team performance and progress reporting issues at the Management Team meetings.
• Identify staff training needs and submit requests to the Office Manager.
• Ensure adequate procedures are in place, policy is clear and understood by both staff and clients.
• Supervise the delivery of other services provided on site.
• Ensure that weekly property inspections are undertaken by the Wardens and that all health and safety requirements are being met, and they are reporting and recording any actions and concerns promptly to you on a weekly basis.
• Carry out monthly property inspections on all Hope properties.
• Work with the Office Manager to manage all Health and Safety issues.
• Assist in the recruitment and selection of staff.
• Undertake regular file reviews ensuring all client files are regularly updated and are maintained in line with Hope’s requirements.
• Ensure that Accommodation Officers are monitoring the needs of clients, and monitor the initial and further risk assessments against the clients support plan to ensure progress is being made and monitored.
• Monitor Accommodation Officers caseloads and ensure that reports are completed thoroughly and accurately by the Accommodation Officer and in an acceptable timeframe.
• Ensure housing benefit and council tax applications are completed adequately and submit-ted in a timely fashion.
• Undertake disciplinary and grievance procedures as necessary.
• Undertake evictions if these arise.
• Develop assessment criteria to determine suitability of clients applying for accommodation, and confirm applications submitted by Accommodation Officer on behalf of clients.
• Deal with complaints from clients.
• Implement the warnings and exclusions’ policy where necessary.
• Ensure work with clients is tangible and leads to positive outcomes, and that Accommodation Officers are recording all outcomes.
• Submit verified staff timesheets and rotas to the Finance Manager/CEO for payment.
• Take overall responsibility for the hostel petty cash system.
• Ensure client charges are received, recorded and received by Finance Manager.
• Identify Health and Safety issues and action in line with policy and procedures.
• Keep up to date Health and Safety records in line with regulations.
• Take overall responsibility for accurate risk assessment recordings and actions.
• Take overall responsibility for the safeguarding of accommodation service staff and clients.
• Keep up to date incident reports.
• Work in partnership with other agencies to ensure a high standard of service is delivered.
• Monitor equality and diversity, ensuring an accessible service to all clients.
• Attend case conferences, joint assessments and meetings as necessary and directed by the CEO.
• Promote the service to a wider community.
• Provide written monthly reports for management/board meetings as required by the CEO.
• Provide statistical information as required by the CEO.
• To respect the confidential nature of the work.
• To participate in appropriate training and staff development programmes.
• To promote and ensure the implementation and compliance with Hope’s policies.
• To ensure that organisational services are delivered in accordance with Hope’s equal opportunity policy.

Person Specification

Essential

• Experience of motivating and managing staff.
• Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce concise and relevant proposals with meticulous attention to detail.
• Proven work experience and in-depth understanding of funding procedures, rules and regulations.
• Ability to be flexible and your skills in problem solving.
• High standard of computer literacy (Excel, Word, Outlook).

About the role

You will encourage, support and resource parishes in contextually appropriate ways to grow and develop sustainable ministry with either children, families and young people or young people and young adults, depending on the role you wish to apply for.

You will be someone who:

• Has significant experience and a proven track record with children or young people (preferably in ministry).
• Has a theological understanding of the faith development of children and young people.
• Is a passionate advocate for children and young people to be heard and able to fully participate in all spaces across the life of the Diocese.
