Here at the IOP we are looking for a Learning and Skills Manager to join the Wales team on a fixed period of 9 months to support us in our mission.

Working with colleagues from across the organisation and our members, the Learning and Skills Manager (Wales) will spearhead the IOP's efforts to increase the visibility and impact of our work in this crucial area. Building and maintaining high level relationships across the education and skills sectors in Wales, the post-holder will help us to develop and share our expertise, and influence the development of qualifications, curricula and learning pathways, as well as lead a team providing direct support to teachers.

The Role

This exciting fixed-term role will help the IOP to understand and support Wales’s education and skills sectors and to ensure that the voice of Wales is heard and represented in the IOP’s broader work across the UK and Ireland. The Learning and Skills Manager (Wales) also leads a team of professional teacher CPD coaches and a Welsh Government funded project that provides support to non-specialist teachers of physics and help schools to nurture an equitable and supportive learning environment. 

What will I be doing?

• Developing long-term, impactful education and skills projects and activities in Wales and managing successful delivery.
• Identifying risks and opportunities associated with the Institute’s education and skills work.
• Producing high quality outputs that achieve influence with key audiences.
• Supporting the production of influential policy and research activities in the education and skills spheres.
• Advising colleagues across the IOP of education and skills policy, practice and priorities in Wales.
• Offering advice and making recommendations to senior colleagues, members, trustees and external stakeholders.

Projects you work on may include:

• Scoping and delivering the Welsh elements of collaborative, cross-IOP projects, in particular those led by the Learning and Skills team.
• Working with colleagues to develop new policy positions, such as on the recruitment, retention and training of teachers.
• Leading a Welsh Government funded project supporting non-specialist teachers of physics and encouraging greater equity in schools.

About the role:

As our Finance Manager you will be at the heart of the charity’s operations and play a vital role in helping us embark on a new 3-year strategy. Working closely with the Director of Operations and CEO your role and expertise will be pivotal in driving excellence and integrity in financial management and strategic financial decisions.

What are we looking for:

Our senior team has an exceptional skill set, and we recognise that candidates with all the skills we need simply may not exist. But don’t worry, if you have some of the skills we want but lack others – we will train you to fill those gaps. This will include thorough training in the delivery of our well-respected training courses. 

Our staff have the choice to work wholly or partly from home or from our office in Tooting, SW London, during regular operational hours (08:30–17:30). If working from home, staff must have a working environment suitable for holding video-call meetings/training sessions with clients. 

Wherever you work, you will interact regularly with senior team members to gain new skills and exchange ideas.  

This job will require regular travel to deliver training courses (mostly in the UK, estimated 2 to 8 days per month) and may also involve international travel, including to developing countries. So, applicants must be willing to travel (in line with UK government guidance).

• A PhD in a quantitative STEM research subject

• At least one first-author paper in a peer-reviewed journal

Salary and annual leave

The Paul Mellon Centre (PMC) is looking for a qualified and highly experienced Human Resources (HR) Manager who can help us create an inclusive and inspirational workplace. We are looking for someone who is interested in developing and enhancing the career and workplace experience of the people who work for our organisation through their leadership of the HR Team and provision at the PMC. Reporting to the Centre’s Chief Operating Officer, the HR Manager plays a crucial role in our organisation of around forty members of staff. About the role

Alongside the Service Manager, you are responsible and accountable for monitoring, maintaining and providing the highest standards of clinical and personal support and service delivery, while promoting independence and choice to the people supported in the service. You will support the Service Manager to manage and ensure the delivery of the service’s key quality and safety priorities by holding delegated responsibility in key areas of the day-to-day running of the supported living activity/service. You will also have delegated responsibility for the direct supervision and line management of a team of Support Workers. About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development and delivery of a 3-year train the trainer pilot programme in the chosen pilot locations in England or Scotland.

The pilot will train and equip local health care professionals, health promotion workers and local community workers with the knowledge and resources to promote breast awareness, breast screening and risk reduction messages in their own communities.

Supported by a public health development officer, train the trainer (1 based in England and 1 based in Scotland), who you’ll also line manage, you’ll lead on the development and delivery of the in-person programme, including marketing materials, resource packs and ongoing support for trainees. You’ll also identify opportunities, agree timescales and associated logistics for training delivery within the pilot areas.
