About Us

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.

The role

This newly scoped role reports into the CEO and is critical to our ability to create the income we need to keep up with the ever-increasing demand on our services. Primarily, the role has two fundamental elements to it: firstly, working with both a specialist external consultant and the CEO in planning, submitting and reporting on the grants that make up a large proportion of our income; and secondly, the planning and managing of TUR’s traditional (and always fun) annual events. These include celebrity interviews and talks, garden parties and various community events such as the Green Days festival in Chiswick. There are additionally a number of community relationships that add great value to our work and efforts to raise funds which require regular contact. Occasionally, the role will also require presenting or talking to both funders and community groups as we share our magnificent story with them – and ultimately, convince them to support us.

About You

You live within – or know well – West/Central London; you probably need a job with some working flexibility and want to have genuine belief in the cause you’re promoting. You have a CV that demonstrates experience in a comparable role: this could be in another charity, CIC or other Non-Profit organisation. You are comfortable and confident with working autonomously, so you will need to be disciplined; you can articulate and ‘bring to life’ our story through your advanced written and oral communication skills, enabling us to always deliver highly compelling reasons to secure gain financial (and other) support. You don’t need to be a Microsoft Office expert, but you should be familiar with Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Finally, you are self-motivated and energetic, as well as passionate about making sure disadvantaged groups across West London get the opportunity to improve their highly challenging lives. Ideally you will have a driver's licence and use of a car, but this is not essential.

DSAP exists to advise the Diocesan Bishop and the Diocesan Chief Executive on the adequacy of the local safeguarding policies, in alignment with all national church and statutory procedures, and provide scrutiny of culture, working practices, and training arrangements for all diocesan and cathedral staff and office holders. The Services Manager (Housing) will primarily focus on the managing New Horizon's Housing Advice service, delivered both from the day centre and remotely. You will work with the Head of Services to ensure the service responds holistically to young people with multiple needs or barriers.  You should be experienced in the housing and homelessness sector, be a passionate advocate for young people. and have the ability to motivate a team to deliver high quality services in a fast-paced environment. You should be skilled in partnership management and able to collaborate to identify new housing solutions for young people.

We are recruiting a full-time Funding Officer working across Birmingham & Solihull on a fixed term contract up until December 2024.

ROLE PURPOSE

This position involves identifying and prioritising potential donors capable of making significant contributions to help us deliver a range of projects aimed at enhancing the student experience and supporting the local community. By providing the Development and Fundraising Team with tailored and insightful research, this role will enhance the prospect funding pipeline and facilitate the cultivation of a diverse pools of donors, including individuals, grant-making trusts, and companies. This role will also manage a well-structured stewardship program for donors. Responsibilities include promptly acknowledging donations, creating personalised impact reports, and overseeing bi-annual events which recognise and celebrate their support.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

· To maintain and develop the University’s database of fundraising prospects through proactive identification, analysis, and segmentation, (individual and aggregate) record updating, and original research, including the identification of new prospects.

·  To prepare prospect profiles (which may include wealth ratings), and work with relationship managers to devise appropriate tailored cultivation and solicitation plans, enabling appropriately targeted fundraising asks.

·  To develop and manage reporting in the database across fundraising portfolios to help ensure prospects are strategically moving along the prospect pipeline towards major gift solicitation • To produce and provide due-diligence reports on prospective donors as part of the University’s gift acceptance procedures.

· To deliver an annual donor recognition event to acknowledge and celebrate the support of the University’s most generous supporters.

· To organise smaller bespoke events for higher level donors to the university, for example, site visits to project sites and/or opportunities to meet student beneficiaries.

· To write insightful and impactful bespoke reports for donors supporting the University, ensuring reports demonstrate the positive impact of support and encourage repeat gift solicitation from the fundraising team.

CONTEXT

The primary purpose of the Development team is to secure philanthropic income to support the delivery of the University’s Being Westminster 2022-2029 strategy. The Development team forms part of the Global Recruitment, Admissions, Marketing and Communications (GRAMC) directorate. The team also works closely with the Business Engagement Directorate to deliver an integrated approach to the University’s relationships with its key external stakeholders. The Development team collaborates with the Alumni Relations team to inspire and engage the University of Westminster’s vibrant, global community of alumni and supporters to build lifelong and mutually beneficial relationships with the institution.

SERT’s Working with Communities Team educates and engages local communities and other stakeholders who have the power, influence (and money!) to help make our rivers thrive again.  This role will play a key part in making this happen by helping us reach more people from a wider range of audiences, and connecting them to the issues facing rivers, the solutions that will make a difference and by raising our profile in the expert delivery of them.

This new role within our Working with Communities Team will develop and implement a digital strategy to amplify and support SERT’s presence through increased brand profile, supporter acquisition and engagement and donated revenue. This will involve creating and managing online marketing and fundraising campaigns for the Trust across our digital platforms that grow support for our mission, generate income, reach new audiences and promote the value of the South East’s rivers.

The role will refine the Trust’s existing supporter journey to increase donor revenue making use of its established channels (organic social media, newsletter, website) as well as researching and implementing new channels such as paid advertising, SEO, online campaigns (including crowdfunding) and new social platforms.

You will also find creative and compelling ways to talk about our work, share case studies and successes and make our website the go-to resource for expert and inspiring information about rivers and how to help them.

The ideal candidate would have a background in marcoms and fundraising for non-profits, be a compelling storyteller, and be highly confident and competent in digital communications.

We are looking for a Policy Officer within our Service Delivery Team. You will have demonstrable understanding of health and social care policy and related public policy developments in the UK, as well as an understanding of how policy decisions are influenced and made. You will have knowledge and experience of research and analysis relevant to health policy, as well as familiarity with and understanding of the core principles of both quantitative and qualitative research.

In this role, you will support the development and implementation of Picker's policy influencing strategy to make person centred health and social care a reality for everyone. You will be responsible for monitoring policy and political developments, promoting evidence-based policies to advanced person centred care and building and maintaining relationships within the health policy world. You will leave on the development of policy outputs including briefings, position statements and white papers, working with colleagues to build evidence and articulate Picker's messages.

This role

In this role, you will:

• Develop and maintain a good understanding of key health and social care policy and political developments
• Lead on or assist with a range of high-profile policy projects, including the planning and development of projects, and contributing to analysis, writing and publication.
• Identifying opportunities to contribute to public policy debates in health and social care, using evidence from Picker’s work and from the public domain to provide insightful thought leadership.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to support policy analysis, responsive policy work, and to enhance Picker’s external profile across various audiences.
• Lead on and assist with written outputs, such as topic-specific briefing papers, website copy, presentations and blog posts to communicate the findings of our work.
• Carry out literature reviews and rapid scans of data and evidence to scope public policy positions on a range of key issues.
• Present evidence and findings (both in writing and orally) about highly complex and sometimes contentious subjects to a wide range of audiences, ensuring an understanding of the subject and issues arising and enabling informed decision making
• Support the drafting of responses to consultations, policy briefings, and other public policy initiatives, including relevant third party publications.
• Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, partners, and collaborators relevant to our policy portfolio, including academic and health and social care policy communities.
• Work collaboratively with other teams, creating strong links between other programmes and projects, to promote the use of services, products and survey findings that improve the quality of healthcare.

About You

You will have:

• Understanding of health and social care policy and related public policy developments in the UK
• Understanding of how policy decisions are influenced and made
• Knowledge and experience of research and analysis relevant to health policy. This might include synthesising different kinds of evidence, carrying out interviews, or analysing data
• Familiarity with and understanding of the core principles of both quantitative and qualitative research including strengths and limitations of different approaches and their use in different contexts
• Evidence of being able to produce high quality written work for a range of audiences
• Experience of developing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, collaborators or partners
• An interest in healthcare quality and person centred care
• Ability to analyse complex policy issues, assess their implications for Picker and our beneficiaries, and provide evidence-based recommendations
• Excellent project management skills with a track record in undertaking and managing policy and/or research projects
• Ability to present data and information to a wide range of audiences through formal and informal presentations, both written and oral
• Ability to work independently under managerial direction, seeking advice on company policy or resource issues as required, and gain required approval at predetermined stages of projects
• Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience)

There is a permanent, part time Funding Officer opportunity to come and join our North East and Cumbria Regional team.  The role is for 25.5 hours per week covering the area of Cumbria. 

The role of a Funding Officer is both challenging and rewarding with no two days the same. You will be expected to spend time developing your knowledge of and relationships in the communities that you are responsible for to try to understand the challenges they face and how our funding can make a real difference to help communities to thrive.

You will be responsible for assessing and presenting funding applications to our Reaching Communities programme, supporting community groups, making connections with important stakeholders e.g. CEO’s of LA’s, MP’s, Mayors and representing the fund at a wide variety of events including funding fairs and networking events.

You will often be the first point of call for potential applicants and will need to be resilient, diplomatic, supportive and assertive in equal degrees. As the outward facing representation of the fund you will need to have good people skills, good communication skills and be professional in a wide variety of different situations. You will have to assess applications and present these to the rest of the regional team at various panels. You will certainly have to be strong enough to say “no” as we always have more applications than funding available.

We are looking for people who have good knowledge and understanding of the third sector and the challenges it faces. You will need capable IT skills, the ability to learn new processes and procedures (including bespoke software). You may have to travel throughout the region and, on occasions, have to stay away overnight and work unsociable hours.

Ideally you will live in Cumbria. The use of car is desirable.

Chief Executive – full-time, permanent, London (flexible/hybrid)

The Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) is seeking a new Chief Executive to lead the organisation through the next phase of its growth and development. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for a highly experienced and energetic senior player to lead a small executive team, along with many highly dedicated and capable Institute members, as we embark on a number of key development projects which will continue to grow our charitable activities and influence in the food sector. The role is a key point of contact and ambassador for the Institute with many senior and influential stakeholders within the food sector and governments.

We are looking for a strong strategic and conceptual thinker, experienced in business and financial management, who can communicate with and influence people at all levels. The role leads a small team and will have significant hands-on involvement in day to day operational matters.

The individual will have attained a BSc or equivalent level, and have demonstrable experience in leadership and people management. They will have a broad understanding of the food (or associated) sector (and preferably experience working in the sector). Ideally, the individual will already have experience managing or running a charity, and so will have a practical understanding of charity governance best practice. 

With multiple activities from publishing through to professional recognition and from scientific and technical events and communication through to supporting the next generation of talent, the Institute is looking for a leader who can work creatively and yet in a focussed way to ensure all these activities are progressed.

Ideally, they will have previously worked for a professional membership body and are likely to have experience in the food sector.
