What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Our challenge
The Community Fundraising Team is an integral part of The Charity Fundraising Portfolio, with an income target of £3.6 million in 2024/25 and the team consists of Community Fundraisers based across the UK. Our role is to provide fundraising advice and support to our DIY individual fundraisers, Supporter Groups, Community Organisations and Regional Corporates.

How can you help?
We are recruiting a team of Community Fundraising Volunteers to help us engage with our amazing DIY fundraisers through a variety of Social Media channels, including our Regional Facebook Pages. We aim to inspire, motivate and advise our DIY fundraisers via social media to maximise fundraising opportunities across the UK. To do so, we want to be able to engage with our community in an exciting, informative and consistent way. As part of a team of Community Fundraising Social 
Media Volunteers, you’d help us by:
• Supporting us to develop and manage the Community Fundraising Team Social Media Plan for 2025/26.
• Supporting us to create inspiring and motivating engagement opportunities with our DIY & Supporter Group community, utilising all our Social Media Channels.
• Updating our CRM with details of the Fundraiser, their DIY event & any action taken in response to their contact with us.

At Childline we are actively recruiting new Volunteers. 

What will I be doing?

• Your shift will consist of 3hrs30mns counselling, sandwiched between a 15mns brief before your shift and a 30mns debrief post shift. This is to ensure that you can start and finish your shift with any support you require from your Practitioners.
• On shift you will take contacts from Young People who rely on the service that Childline offers. Childline is not there to solve problems, we are a listening service for Young People and in each contact your role is to engage the Young Person, explore their situation and to support them in deciding their next steps.
• The contacts you would take from Young People can come in 3 ways. Traditional phone call contacts, live chats via instant response typed messaging or less commonly via 'PIBS' which are essentially emails sent by Young People in the knowledge the response will not be 'live' and instant.

What impact will this have?

• Childline is a unique service, valued greatly by the Young People who contact us.
• It provides a safe place for Young People to talk confidentially to our Volunteer Counsellors, an option that many of them do not have elsewhere.
• Young People rely on us being there for them 24/7. In an average month, Childline London takes approx. 1,500 live chats, 900 voice calls and 300 PIBs.
• However, the demand for the service often outstrips the supply as Young People who desperately need our service cannot always get through.
• That is why we are actively recruiting new Volunteers to be able to meet the need of all Young People who are in distress and need the support that Childline provides.

Training

• Childline offers a full 12 week online training programme to new Volunteers. This consists of one 4 hour session per week.
• During the training, you will meet other Volunteers in your cohort and have access to your 2 dedicated Childline Trainers.
• As part of the training, you will also go in person to the London Base for observation and mentored shifts which give you a face to face insight into how the Counselling Room works.
• You will also have access to a dedicated Volunteer Engagement Lead to give you a London Base tour (optional) and generally be on hand to answer any questions or queries you may have - big or small, if they matter to you they matter because you are giving your time to volunteer and Childline wants to offer you every level of support.
• Once you pass through training and become a qualified Childline Volunteer Counsellor, the development opportunities do not stop there. You will have access to a multitude of mandatory and optional training courses that are accredited and 100% free to all Volunteers.

· Engage with relevant stakeholders and works in partnership with other bodies where appropriate to ensure registrants continue to meet the required standards for entry and maintenance on the Wider Psychological Workforce Register.

Teach First Board of Trustees 

Chaired by Dame Vivian Hunt, our Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance of Teach First, ensuring it is run in accordance with our Charity Articles and the law. Our Trustees are all non-executives, who volunteer their time to support our work. 

Trustees meet regularly as the Board of Trustees to focus on strategy, performance and assurance and to make decisions in relation to: 

• the long-term strategic direction of the Charity, ensuring delivery of its objectives and ongoing public benefit 

• the Charity’s financial and other resources, ensuring these are adequate, managed appropriately and that the Charity remains solvent 

• implementing policies, controls and activities which will support the Charity’s objectives; and 

• compliance with relevant laws and regulation. 

Trustee role description 

The Board of Trustees is looking to appoint a Trustee with: 

• Strategic understanding of the education policy landscape and the research and evidence base needed to drive education system change, with the ability to influence and activate decision-makers. 

• Influence and experience in building networks to deliver and scale impact across the sector. 

• A commitment to, and experience working towards, Teach First’s charitable mission to end educational inequality. 

This Trustee would be expected to: 

• attend and participate in regular Board of Trustees meetings (usually four per year, plus an extended meeting to focus on strategy at the beginning of each academic year)

• attend and participate in meetings of the Education Committee (usually four per year), a formal sub-committee of the Board of Trustees, which advises the Board on Teach First’s education strategy and provides assurance to the Board on the quality and impact of the Charity’s educational activities 

• provide strategic advice and support to members of the senior management team in a non-Executive capacity 

• participate in the recruitment of Executive roles, when necessary, and provide support in hearing appeals from trainees 

• declare any interests (financial or otherwise) which give rise to an actual or perceived conflict with the business of the Board. 

Board meetings are held in person, either at Teach First’s London office or in a school setting. Sub-committee meetings usually take place online. 

The time commitment for this non-remunerated role is approximately one day per month, including preparation for meetings. 

In addition to attendance at formal Board and sub-committee meetings, there are opportunities for Trustees to be involved in the day-to-day work of the Charity in support of its objectives e.g. fundraising activity, meeting with supporters, attending events, joining working groups looking at new areas of strategic activity or acting as mentors to senior employees. 

Appointments to the Board of Trustees shall be for a period of three years, renewable up to a maximum of nine years served. Most Trustees will serve two three-year terms. 

Our governance structure 

The Board has three permanent sub-committees, each providing oversight of, and advice on, a defined area of the Charity’s work. Sub-committee membership comprises Trustees, Teach First Ambassadors (alumni of its programmes), and, in some cases, external members, who are co-opted on the basis of their expertise in a particular field. 

The Board has an Education Committee, a Finance, Risk and Audit Committee (FRAC), and a Nominations Committee. Nominations Committee is responsible for the composition of the Board and its sub-committees.

About the Project – “Solta o Jogo”
“Solta o Jogo” is a vibrant cultural competition and festival celebrating Brazilian heritage through Capoeira, music, dance, acrobatics, and a Brazilian arts & crafts fair. Hosted at Kingston University Townhouse, the event invites the community to participate in free performances, workshops, and exhibitions promoting cross-cultural understanding.

As part of this initiative, we are seeking a Bid Writer to support Quilombo UK in securing vital funding and resources to further our mission. This remote volunteer role is ideal for someone who is passionate about community impact, writing, and making a meaningful difference in the Third Sector. You'll work with a supportive team, gain hands-on experience in funding applications, and help shape the sustainability of impactful community programmes.

Position Overview:
The Bid Writer Assistant plays a key role in researching, drafting, and editing compelling proposals and funding applications for various projects run by Quilombo UK. The role involves close collaboration with department leads, collecting relevant data, and ensuring submissions align with organisational goals and funder expectations. It offers the flexibility to work independently, with the support of experienced professionals and tailored training where required.

Key Responsibilities:

Proposal & Bid Development:

• Research, draft, and edit funding proposals tailored to specific grants, donors, and partners.

• Review and refine existing proposals to ensure clarity, compliance, and impact.

• Collaborate with internal teams to gather relevant content, project insights, and financial information for bids.

• Develop supporting documents and presentations to accompany applications.

Strategic Input & Collaboration:

• Contribute to the bid strategy, suggesting creative and relevant ideas aligned with organisational goals.

• Maintain and manage a structured “bid plan” with timelines, approval processes, and submission deadlines.

• Liaise with HR, Finance, Marketing, and Project teams to align bid content with current projects and strategic direction.

Reporting & Organisation:

• Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of bid statuses.

• Organise bid-related documentation, supporting strong internal knowledge management.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in English, Communications, Business, or related fields.

Experience:

• Prior experience writing funding proposals or grant applications.

• Familiarity with fundraising, community initiatives, or nonprofit funding is desirable.

Skills:

• Strong written communication and persuasive writing skills.

• High attention to detail, organisation, and ability to meet tight deadlines.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word; Excel knowledge is a plus.

• Confidence in researching, planning, and collaborating across teams.

• Ability to work independently and maintain professionalism and confidentiality.

The Scottish Steering Committee (SSC) is our voluntary group who drive policy, campaigning and influencing work in Scotland, with the support of The Charity. It aims to represent the views of the community in Scotland and be a solution orientated advisory board to help achieve agreed objectives.

An ambitious and dedicated group, members previously agreed that the key objective of the Committee would be to campaign for a faster diagnosis for those affected by a brain tumour. Their aim is to achieve this through influencing, supporting and campaigning to improve all aspects of the diagnostic journey. Two years after setting this objective, as per the Committee’s terms of reference, we are now seeking new members to join and advocate for change in Scotland.

How can you help?

To achieve these ambitions – the Committee is now seeking five new members with particular experiences and skill sets that can help drive and enable the Committee to achieve its ambitions.

Your experience and skills will provide valuable input during SSC meetings but won’t be limited to just that – you can actively engage with stakeholders across Scotland and the wider UK, contribute to the creation of our policy positions in Scotland and raise the voice of the community across Scotland and beyond.

You will be a core member of a group that is seeking to improve outcomes for all those affected by brain tumours in Scotland.

We’re looking for...

People with experiences, knowledge and skills that can actively contribute to the operation of the SSC. This includes but is not limited to:

• Experience of being personally affected by a brain tumour in Scotland

• Clinician who is involved with brain tumours in some capacity

• Experience of working within Scottish Public Affairs or within a Commercial Landscape and environment

• Experience of working within Public Relations or media management

However, all applications will be considered, and we seek to have as varied a skillset as possible with a range of different experiences to have as much representation across Scotland as possible.

We particularly encourage applications from those who are significantly underrepresented in our sector, including individuals from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.

Time commitment

The Committee currently holds 90 minute virtual meetings every six weeks. There will also be opportunities to take on additional tasks which can arise at different moments and depending on the activities of the Committee. We will also aim to meet in person at least once a year at an agreed location.

Practical considerations

You will receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and any specific training for the role, as well as ongoing direction from one of the team, who will be your key contact. We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18. We encourage volunteers to claim for any reasonable expenses that are incurred in the course of their volunteering with the Charity. The Deadline for applications is Monday 30 June at 5pm but we may close early if we receive a high number of applications.
