Job Description

Reporting into the Head of Service Delivery, the Safeguarding Manager will be responsible for ensuring robust compliance within the service, including with external regulatory bodies and will work closely with colleagues in the Operations Leadership Team, sharing effective practice as required. You will be responsible for raising the standards of safeguarding practice we provide to our service users to ensure that they are safe, effective, and responsive to client needs and will work alongside colleagues to improve outcomes. The British Academy – the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences – is seeking a Training and Development Manager to join our friendly and collaborative team in the Research Directorate, providing key support in the delivery of the Early Career Researcher Network Leadership and Development SHAPE Programme.

The role

The ECRN Training and Development Manager will work closely with the Head of ECRN and the ECRN Training and Development Officer to deliver the British Academy Early Career Researcher Network (ECRN) and Wellcome Leadership and Advancement SHAPE Programme. This involves overseeing the design and delivery of training content, managing budgets and payments, and coordinating logistics across both online and in-person activities.

You will contribute to the development and implementation of efficient working systems, policies, and processes and work collaboratively with the Head of ECRN to troubleshoot and resolve operational challenges.

With responsibility for leading the planning and delivery of training programmes and workshops, as well as managing programme budgets and overseeing payments, you will also implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track impact.

You will be responsible for line managing a Training and Development Officer. You will also need to coordinate logistics and delivery across virtual and regional formats for the Leadership and Advancement SHAPE programme.

The T&D Manager will support the continuous improvement of operational systems and working practices and liaise with training facilitators, regional partners, and other external providers and internal colleagues across the Academy to ensure alignment and impact.

The ideal candidate for this role will bring extensive experience in training programme management, budget oversight, monitoring and evaluation, and team leadership in an office or organisational setting. The INSPIRE Foundation, a charity whose objective is to promote research into the development of practical systems for people with damage to the spinal cord by the use of the latest advances in electronic, mechanical, and medical technology.

JOB PURPOSE

The Director is involved in every aspect of the running of INSPIRE, which includes raising funding from a variety of sources, formulating a winning strategy to grow INSPIRE, husbanding resources in the most effective and efficient manner and leading a small staff in their support roles.

SCOPE OF THE JOB

As Director, you will have a large amount of freedom to drive change, grow the charity, set the strategic vision going forwards and use your talents and leadership to ensure INSPIRE thrives. You are to ensure the charity has sufficient funds to cover all routine day-to-day expenses, to pay invoices quarterly for current projects and to plan for taking on medical research projects which are vetted by the National Science Committee (NSC) and agreed by the Board of Trustees. You will be actively supported by a Board of Trustees, to whom you report in your role as Director.

You should be qualified to degree level, ideally with an MBA or an equivalent business qualification. Some knowledge of spinal cord injury and its effects on an individual or of disability more broadly would be advantageous, as well as having a proven fundraising background from working in the 3rd Sector. The ideal candidate will have the following skills:

• Financial management or accountancy knowledge

• A high level of written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to interact with people from all backgrounds

INSPIRE is based in offices at Salisbury Hospital, Wiltshire and you will have a small, dynamic team to help and advise you as you settle into the role.

This role sits within the Mission and Evangelism Directorate. The role will seek to develop our safeguarding culture and practice. The Safeguarding Lead will work with individuals across all of Church Army including our employees, Commissioned Evangelists, and Mission Community. A values-driven non-profit is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to oversee finance and operations. This is a senior leadership role requiring vision, collaboration, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional teams spanning Finance, Governance, IT, Health & Safety, and Facilities, ensuring effective systems and practices are in place. Act as a strategic partner in support of executive decision-making.
• Drive long-term business planning, including the development of three-year strategic plans and annual cycles.
• Lead the finance function to ensure optimal use of resources aligned with organisational goals. Deliver accurate financial planning, reporting, and analysis, and oversee budgeting, forecasting, and control processes.
• Oversee and conclude the annual audit process with rigour and transparency.
• Serve as Company Secretary, holding executive responsibility for governance, legal and regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk management.
• Provide expert guidance on tax strategy and ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations.
• Collaborate with IT leadership to shape digital infrastructure strategy and oversee major system improvements, including financial systems and process optimisation.
• Support organisational change and development initiatives to build a collaborative, high-performing culture. Lead operational process improvements to enhance cross-departmental efficiency.
• Champion a culture of continuous improvement, mentoring staff and supporting professional growth across teams.
• Oversee the strategic use of office premises, ensuring physical infrastructure enables effective delivery of organisational objectives.

Requirements

• A qualified accountant with significant experience in senior leadership roles, within the not-for-profit sector.
• Strong track record in strategic financial planning and working closely with Boards; in-depth knowledge of Charity SORP, experience preparing statutory accounts, and sound understanding of charity law and regulatory frameworks, including company secretarial responsibilities.
• Proven experience of managing central services, including governance, IT, infrastructure, health & safety, and facilities functions.
• A strategic, adaptable leader with experience driving organisational change, implementing new ways of working, and developing effective, resilient teams through periods of transformation.
• Commercially astute and technically skilled, with excellent interpersonal, facilitation, negotiation, and influencing abilities; able to build trust and inspire high performance.
• Collaborative and consultative approach, with the ability to engage and influence a broad range of stakeholders.
• Strong alignment with the values and mission of a purpose-driven organisation.
• Willing and able to travel within the UK (and occasionally internationally), with flexibility to work outside standard hours when needed.

This role is open to candidates with the right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship. This role offers hybrid working with the candidate expected to be in the office once every 2 weeks, more during busy periods. This role is full-time, however, working 4 days/week.

Summary of the role:

The Global Programmes Manager provides supervision and management support to Muslim Aid Country Offices and implementing partners ensuring the efficient and effective implementation of high-quality delivery of projects and programmes in line with organizational strategy, in compliance with donor expectations, governmental and international standards.

The role is responsible for technical and management advice and support to ensure Muslim Aid Country Offices and partners are implementing, monitoring and evaluating programme activities in compliance with Muslim Aid’s strategy and budget as well as recognised international standards.

In addition, other key responsibilities include building and expanding strategic partnerships, with donors and other development partners to increase the size, scope and quality of programmes implemented by the Country Offices to reach the poorest, marginalised and underserved populations. Regular travel will be required.

About the Role:

1. Implement our strategy by supporting Country Offices and partner organisations in programme development and delivery, and in impact measurement.
2. Support Country Offices (including affiliates) to reinforce our mission, vision, values and direction through clear and articulate communications.
3. Provide technical support in organisational development for the Country Offices, ensuring appropriate technical and management skills exist to effectively implement programmes and showing improvements over time in our organisational health checks.
4. Work closely with Country Offices and partners to strengthen our due diligence and compliance procedures and ensure their effective use in practice.
5. Ensure efficient use of allocated funds; agree budgets and plans for the Country Offices. Ensure financial management and Value for Money is central to the management and accountability of work undertaken by Country Offices and partners.
6. Ensure that the quality of our programmes and partnerships at all levels are of a high standard in delivering our promises and commitments.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

1. Educated to degree level standard in international development or similar related field
2. Demonstrated experience in international development management including senior management and distance management.
3. Experience of building strong relationships at the highest levels with development partners.
4. Knowledge of SPHERE, CHS and DEC Accountability Framework priorities and other humanitarian/development
5. Excellent project management and facilitation skills.
6. Strong and well-developed analytical skills coupled with experience of writing quality proposals and reports
