Job description

Help shape Saferworld’s Afghanistan strategy at a pivotal moment. Lead a partner centred programme delivering impact in one of the world’s most complex operating environments.

We’re looking for an experienced, values driven leader to join Saferworld as Country Manager, Afghanistan. This is a rare opportunity to set strategic direction, strengthen partnerships, and guide a skilled team working alongside civil society actors to advance safer, more inclusive societies.

You will lead the Afghanistan country programme end to end, developing and delivering the country strategy aligned with Saferworld’s 10 year organisational strategy, nurturing trusted partnerships, and ensuring high quality programme management, financial oversight and donor reporting. You will also play a key external role, representing Saferworld with donors, authorities and stakeholders in Afghanistan, across South Asia and globally, building confidence in our approach and growing the resources needed to deliver.

In a rapidly changing context, success requires thoughtful leadership that centres partners’ voices, anticipates and manages risk, and adapts quickly to new realities. You’ll contribute to organisation wide learning and strategic discussions, producing clear analysis that connects Afghanistan experience to wider trends, and helping develop new ways of working that increase impact across contexts and regions.

If you bring strong programme leadership, a collaborative approach to partnership, and the judgement to navigate complexity with care, we’d love to hear from you.
