Project Harar has an exciting new role for a full-time Programme and Fundraising Assistant paid internship. We are a small international charity treating children with cleft lip and palate and complex facial conditions across Ethiopia.

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate intern for one year, starting in early June. You will gain experience in all areas of our work, working with our UK and Ethiopia teams. You will also work closely with our CEO to support logistics for a complex surgical programme in Addis Ababa to treat Survivors of Noma.

Role Overview: We are seeking a passionate, dedicated and committed person for a one-year internship starting early June 2025. This role involves working closely with our CEO and engaging in a range of projects, with a strong emphasis on fundraising, events and support across the organisation. You will support logistics for a complex surgical programme in Addis Ababa to treat survivors of Noma.

 

Key Responsibilities:

●Support the CEO in various initiatives, as and when required.

●Contribute to a new program focused on raising awareness about Noma (a disease primarily affecting malnourished children in impoverished areas). Must be willing to travel to Ethiopia as part of our Complex Surgical Programme working with a volunteer medical team..

●Collaborate with our program team in Ethiopia. 

●Assist the CEO in planning and executing complex surgical programs.

●Help the Fundraising Manager organise and support fundraising events, campaigns and donor engagement activities.

●Provide support by coordinating communications and logistics.

●Gain a deep understanding of our fundraising platforms and contribute to their optimisation.

●Learn and apply design skills to create engaging materials for our campaigns and events.

Purpose of the job

UK Youth are seeking an exceptional Grants Manager to lead our grant-making processes, ensuring effective distribution of funds to youth-focused organisations. You will play a key role in managing relationships with grantees, supporting capacity-building initiatives, and ensuring funding is used effectively to drive positive outcomes for young people.

Reporting to the Head of Network Development, as part of a wider team leading our network development initiatives, you’ll be responsible for be line managing a Grants Officer and providing much needed and valued support for a sector that delivers life changing impact for young people in a difficult, underinvested landscape. You’ll have opportunity to lead a function that’s committed to working with young people and using equitable, innovative principles and approaches to funding (such as unrestricted, multi-year funds). You’ll also work collaboratively across the organisation and externally to amplify impact for young people across the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full grant-making cycle, from application and assessment to award, monitoring, and evaluation.

• Develop and implement grant-making approaches that align with the charity’s objectives, and funding principles, strategies and priorities  e.g. building on our youth participation practices.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with grantees, funders, and sector stakeholders, working collaboratively and cross functionally with internal colleagues with work related to grants.

• Work closely with youth organisations to understand their needs and provide tailored funding and capacity-building support.

• Work with Impact colleagues to monitor and evaluate grants, ensuring compliance with funding agreements and identifying opportunities for impact and learning.

• Ensure a transparent and equitable grant-making process, embedding best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion.

• Work with Impact and External Relations colleagues to support and prepare reports and impact assessments for internal and external stakeholders, including trustees and funders.

• Support the maintenance and development of partnerships and new funding opportunities  to enhance the charity’s grant-making capacity, including the IVAR community .

• Stay informed about trends in youth work and  funding, sharing insights to shape the charity’s approach.

• Ensure the CRM and grant management systems support data-driven decision-making and reporting, providing training and support to colleagues as needed.

• Support the development, and continuous improvement of the charity’s CRM and grant management systems to ensure efficient and effective grant processing.

Experience we're after

• Previous line management experience and a proven track record of successfully leading a grants function in a previous role.

• Experience in grant-making, funding management, or a related role within the charity sector.

• Strong understanding of youth sector challenges and the role of funding in strengthening organisations.

• Excellent project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple grants simultaneously.

• Analytical skills to assess funding applications and evaluate impact.

• Strong relationship management and communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience working with charities and funders.

• Financially numerate with the ability to set and manage budgets.

We're looking for a Quality and Performance Manager to lead on audits, data analysis, policy implementation and quality initiatives at Maurice House, our care home in Broadstairs. You’ll work closely with local teams and the central Quality & Care Standards team to maintain high standards, share best practice, and support improvements across other RBL care homes.

This role offers 37.5 hours per week, with shifts between 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday with salary between £45,793 to £49,506 per annum

What you will be doing:

- Plan and deliver a programme of audits, ensuring action plans are implemented and monitored.
- Communicate findings with Registered Managers, department leads, and senior care staff to drive service improvements.
- Identify trends, lessons learned and support the development of robust quality strategies.
- Work closely with clinical colleagues to implement best practice guidance and evaluate its impact.
- Lead and support quality improvement projects within the care home.
- Liaise with external quality teams and regulators to implement local initiatives.
- Support audits at other RBL care homes, collaborating with other Quality and Performance Managers to align standards and share learning.
- Facilitate clinical governance and audit group meetings.

What we re looking for:

- Level 4 Diploma in Health & Social Care (or equivalent)
- Experience in audits, quality assurance, and service improvement
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ongoing CPD in care quality or person-centred practice
- Full UK driving licence

You may also have Level 5 Diploma or equivalent, RGN (Adults) qualification and/or training in audit or quality improvement.

Brighton and Hove Speak Out is an innovative advocacy charity. We support people with learning disabilities to have a voice and choice and control over their lives by providing a range of advocacy services and community projects.

About the role

This is an opportunity to join our charity in the role of 1-1 Advocacy Team leader.

You will be responsible for leading our 1-1 advocacy team, supporting a small team of advocates to deliver a range of advocacy to adults and young people with learning disabilities.

You will oversee delivery of casework, referral management and monitoring, ensuring Speak Out advocates provide high quality support within a framework of good advocacy practice.

You will also hold a case load supporting people across the service to speak up for themselves and grow in confidence, equip them to understand and exercise their rights and options, and will assist them in the decision-making process relating to their care, treatment, and support.

Our 1-1 advocacy service is tailored to meet individual needs, offering the following support:

· Community issue advocacy - advocacy cases cover a range of issues, including accessing social care and health services, housing issues, wellbeing and relationships.

· Specialist advocacy – support for parents with learning disabilities going through child protection proceedings and for young people with learning disabilities in transition to adulthood.

· Statutory advocacy – advocacy case work under the Care Act and Mental Capacity Act (RPPR)

· Drop-in advocacy service - immediate, short term 1-1 advocacy is available during weekly drop-in sessions at our central base in Brighton

We are currently looking for an OTW Project Assistant who will support the delivery of the On The Water project at one of our boating stations in London. The project provides young people from outside Sea Cadets, age 9-14, the opportunity to get on the water, learn new skills and build confidence through boating activity. This is a very varied and rewarding role that requires someone who is self-motivated, inspiring, organised, creative, tenacious, positive, IT competent and with a real interest in people with a attention to detail and real enthusiasm for the project.

Project delivery takes place between 29 July 2024 and 30 August 2025 when the young people will be attending boating sessions. During this busy time the Project Assistant will be based at the boat station each day to complete registration, manage group change overs, track project targets, encourage survey completion and fill booking gaps. Prior to delivery the role will be focused on supporting the booking process and engaging in community outreach. Once delivery is complete, the Project Assistant role will then predominantly be supporting the evaluation and data collection as well as supporting participants to join their local Sea Cadet unit.

Key Responsibilities

• The welcoming and registration of participants for the On The Water project
• Collecting and uploading daily statistics and figures that show how the project is progressing
• Making new and repeat bookings
• Talking to participants and their parents/carers about the opportunities within Sea Cadets
• Managing a waiting list and reducing drop-outs
• Responsible for the safety and wellbeing of participants alongside the Boat Station staff
• Ensure that participants complete surveys to share their experience of the project and encourage adults to feedback on their young people’s experience
• Attend any meetings as required by the project
• Assist with the evaluation of the On The Water project
