The Churchill Fellowship is a unique programme that empowers UK citizens to discover new solutions from around the world to tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing communities in the UK. Each year, we fund over 100 Fellows to explore innovative ideas, best practices, and cutting-edge projects anywhere in the world that relate to the issues they care about most.
Purpose of the role:
Are you curious about the society we live in and passionate about making a difference? We’re looking for a creative, passionate and organised manager to join the newly established Activate Team.
The Activate Manager will manage the delivery of the new Activate Fund, which has been designed to enable Churchill Fellows to turn their ideas into action for the benefit of individuals and communities in the UK.
The role will also collaborate closely with the Research and Engagement team to design and deliver new forms of non-financial support for Fellows, enabling them to maximise the impact of their learning, and their potential to create change.
Key Responsibilities
1. Application support
- Acting as the first point of contact for the Activate Fund, managing the inbox, responding to enquiries, providing empathetic and tailored support to applicants and grant holders.
- Designing and delivering support for applicants, for example webinars, 1:1 surgeries, contributing to guidance materials and media content.
- Contributing to the development of Fund documentation, including updating email templates used at each stage of the selection process, in close collaboration with the Salesforce team.
- Participating in longlisting applications alongside the Head of Activate to create a strong shortlist for external panels.
- Co-ordinating the shortlisting and interview process: creating the interview timetable, inviting, briefing and training panel members, liaising with interview candidates, organizing relevant documentation, and supporting the smooth running of interviews.
- Working with the Communications team, supporting the development of key messaging in the run-up to the launch of the Activate Fund in Spring 2026, including drafting web copy and e-news, sourcing case studies and quotes.
2. Grants Management
- Liaising with Activate grant holders to ensure award documentation is signed and returned and responding to any queries.
- Being the main point of contact for Activate grantholders, offering or signposting appropriate advice and support to aid successful project delivery.
- Managing the reporting and payment process in close collaboration with the Salesforce and Finance teams, reviewing progress reports, approving payments and requests for changes to grant duration or budget allocation within agreed Fund parameters.
3. Capacity Building
- Exploring, designing and delivering or brokering a range of additional support for grant holders, such as coaching, mentoring, convening, network-building, skills development and action learning.
- Collaborating with colleagues in the Research and Engagement team to make sure this capacity-building programme complements the wider Fellowship offer.
4. Evaluation and learning
- Supporting the ongoing improvement of the Activate Fund through analysis of application and award trends and by collecting and reviewing feedback, with a particular focus on EDI.
- Contributing to external evaluations and internal reviews of the impact of the Fund, as required, for example through the provision of monitoring data, sourcing of Fellows for interview.
5. Fellowship Team
- As part of the Fellowship Team, contributing to the overall preparation and running of Connect and Inspire, the annual event for new Fellows, and the biennial Award Ceremony.
- Being a proactive and collaborative member of the team, providing support to colleagues where required during busy periods of the year and contributing to a culture of ongoing and open learning.
Person Specification
- Grant making experience with evidence of supporting the delivery of a selection process and/or managing a portfolio of grants.
- Experience of designing and delivering learning programmes, facilitating communities of practice and/or providing coaching/ mentoring to support individuals to achieve their potential.
- Experience of working with or supporting people with lived experience in a learning, project management or funding role. Desirable

Job Purpose
The role of the central charity is to facilitate member support and the successful operation of the charity, lead strategic projects that work to ensure the longevity and sustainability of the global movement and to support the delivery of impactful work in communities that meet our aims.
Like many membership organisations, we need to focus on turning membership decline into membership growth. This role evolved from and is an integral part of the “Reimagining MU” project, where we looked at opportunities to secure the future of the movement.
The post holder will work directly with members and across the charity leading campaigns and programmes that help and support the communities in which we serve, drive membership growth, increase valued engagement and income opportunities, promote Mothers’ Union within the Anglican Church, and build effective relationships with external partners and organisations.
This role will lead the implementation of a suite of existing and new Britain and Ireland programmes which include domestic abuse, social justice, and family issues. Also, to look at new programmes and to manage continual programme reviews. These Mothers’ Union National Programmes are being adopted as best practice frameworks for successful community outreach projects by members in the communities in which we serve. It is envisioned that in resourcing and standardising existing work, these robust programmes will serve as vehicles for volunteer and member recruitment in dioceses in Britain and Ireland and be able to secure strategic partners and external funders to support our work.
Main responsibilities
Programme Development, Implementation and Review – Britain and Ireland
1. Work with the Director of Membership on the continued development, implementation and review of a member-informed national suite of Mothers’ Union programmes.
2. Research, review and develop new member resources, packs, and policies and manage access.
3. Work with the wider Membership team on the design, implementation, and delivery of new membership growth models.
4. Work with the Communications team on campaigns and programme branding and promotion.
5. Procure and manage relationships with programme strategic partners and funders.
Membership Engagement and Support
1. Manage relevant Communities of Interest (representative membership groups) for the different programmes.
2. Contribute campaign materials, articles, written printed and web content as required.
3. Support the membership by overseeing programme enquiries, and delivering resources, communications, webinars, podcasts, and events as required.
4. Working with the Membership Engagement Manager to ensure membership growth is reflected in the programme frameworks as an intended outcome.

- To manage existing national programmes; and to successfully framework and resource new MU campaigns and community outreach work into standardised, resourced and branded national programmes that are adopted and utilised by members and attract strategic partners to enhance successful outputs and increased income for the charity.

Travel Requirements:
This role will require circa 6 weeks of UK travel per year to deliver our residential courses. Each course is up to one week in duration.

The role of Training Manager is a vital part of the Learning and Development team, leading on our core calendar of purpose-led, residential training programmes as well as managing the compliance and mandatory training needs of our people.

This encompasses our range of mandatory and compliance training courses, alongside our residential training programmes and any other programmes as decided in collaboration with the Head of Learning and Development. Through careful planning, budgeting and engagement with key stakeholders across the organisation, you will ensure the core calendar and associated training content is relevant to the evolving business needs and is able to be accessed by all who require it. You will ensure the stewardship and maintenance of our training resources, and relationship management of key contacts at our training venues and volunteers to enable long-term, sustainable delivery of our programmes. In addition, you will support the delivery of other L&D solutions as required by other organisational requirements.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Annual planning of our core training calendar in-line with the business planning and budgeting cycle
- Development and management of the budget to enable the delivery of the core training calendar in-line with the budgeting cycle and promoting the best value-for money
- Planning and delivery of the Travel Security Training programme in-line with the requirements of the Deployable Personnel Minimum Training Standards Policy
- Planning and delivery of the We Are ShelterBox programme in-line with the induction pathway and business need
- Working with the People Assistant, ensure the management of all course and participant logistics including travel, accommodation and expenses.
- Scheduling and delivery of all compliance and mandatory training programmes including, but not limited to: GDPR; Cyber Security; Anti-Money Laundering; Anti Bribery; Payment Card Industry; First Aid; Trauma Risk Management; Fire Marshall, Etc.
- Maintenance and resupply of all training resources required to deliver our core calendar programmes, including inventory management of our 40ft shipping container.
- Business partnering with key risk owners such as Head of Legal and Risk, IT Service and Security Manager, Facilities Manager, and Head of Security to ensure our compliance needs are being met with the course content we have available, amending as necessary.
- Track and report on the compliance of our people against our mandatory and compliance programmes, feeding into the People and Risk Committee papers.
- Manage all risk assessment and mitigations processes for our training programmes, ensuring they are up to date, relevant to the risks faced on our programmes and our compliance with them.
- Support the management of the Qualsafe-registered "ShelterBox Training Centre" that enables the delivery of in-house first aid qualifications.
- Deliver Qualsafe-regulated, in-house first aid training as well as developing and delivering austere first aid training packages relevant to our work in high-risk environments.
- Develop and manage relationships with external service providers and volunteers to enable the sustainable delivery of our residential training programmes.

This is a leadership role within User Voice’s London team, managing two of our new flagship programmes focused on mentoring, volunteering, and community engagement for people with convictions. The Project Manager will lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of these initiatives, ensuring they meet strategic objectives and deliver meaningful impact for participants and stakeholders.

About Rockinghorse Children’s Charity
Rockinghorse Children’s Charity supports sick and disabled children across Sussex. We support babies, children and young people, along with their families, at The Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and The Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton and all of the specialist children’s wards and baby units throughout Sussex.
We deliver and fund projects that enable doctors and nurses to do more. All of projects are led by the needs of children and young people and their families – the lifesaving medical equipment, the support for parents and families, the toys for children spending time in hospitals across Sussex, the environments and spaces that help children feel more at home when they are in hospital and additional staff to make sure children get the best possible care when they are unwell.
Originally set up in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann, we have been supporting children for nearly 60 years, and in that time, we have supported nearly a million children and their families. As the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital, including the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, we work with the NHS, charity partners and the Sussex community to ensure children can be children no matter now sick they are.
We do not receive any government, statutory or local authority funding and so we rely on the generous support of individuals, community groups, companies and trusts: people like you, who care about children and want Sussex to be a safe place for children to grow up.
About the role
We are looking for someone to manage the fundraising income streams across a broad range of fundraising activities (including challenge, community, and corporates) with the guidance of the Head of Fundraising & Partnerships and in line with our organisational strategy.
You will be a driven and articulate individual looking to support the whole fundraising team. We are looking for someone who can multitask and manage a wide range of new and existing supporters. Under the direction of the Head of Fundraising and Partnerships this role will support us to engage a broad range of supporters for example you might be managing our challenge events, expanding our community fundraising offer, or supporting our amazing corporate supporters with their staff fundraising plans. Every day is different.
You will play a pivotal role in developing our supporter engagement activities to tie in with the overarching plans for the charity and help to grow the income generated. You will be a team player who can see the importance of the charity’s mission and who is keen to get stuck in. As a small charity this role is very much hands on – doing planning and delivery of fundraising activities, campaigns and projects.
Duties of the role
Supporting the charity to secure income from across our fundraising portfolio:
Rockinghorse raises money to support children in hospitals, their families and the staff that care for them.
- To manage fundraised income (including challenge, community and corporate) with the charity’s strategic plan at the core of all activity.
- To work with the Head of Fundraising & Partnerships and the team of fundraisers to implement and develop a holistic approach to fundraising and supporters.
- To manage and advise all supporters with their events and activities in aid of Rockinghorse, to maximise income generated and increase awareness and understanding of the charity and our work.
- To proactively grow and develop new ways for supporters to fundraise for Rockinghorse and engage in our work for children across Sussex.
- To manage supporter journeys, products and mechanisms for the supporters you are assigned to manage.
- To ensure you forecast, budget and have contingency planning in place for your income pipeline across your channels.
- To understand the needs, wants and behaviours of new and existing supporters.
- To help Rockinghorse grow our reach and find ways to bring our case for support to life for supporters.
- To evolve our case for support to attract, retain and engage a loyal community of supporters.

Supporting the charity to deliver brilliant, funded projects that support children and their families:
Rockinghorse delivers and funds around 70+ projects per year – supporting sick and disabled babies, children, young people and their families in hospitals in Sussex.
- Work with Head of Fundraising & Partnerships to match projects to partners, supporters and appeals – to ensure our projects are funded and delivered.
- Work with Head of Fundraising & Partnerships to create case for supports for our projects that appeal to and attract a range of supporters.
- Work with Projects Manager and Head of Marketing & Communication to create and disseminate project updates and communication to ensure our supporters are informed, educated and engaged in our work.
- Work with the Head of Marketing and Communications and project leads to build up a bank of case studies, quotes and stories we can use to feed back to supporters.
Support the charity more widely:
- Represent Rockinghorse at events and networks, building strong peer relationships and sharing best practice.
- To present and speak on behalf of Rockinghorse at schools, colleges, community events and corporate events.
- Model excellent conduct and behaviours in line with the charity’s values and ethos.
- Carry out other such duties as may be required for the purposes of the charity; this will include working during evenings and weekends as required and the postholder would be expected to work flexibly to do so.

Essential experience, skills and knowledge for the role:

We’re looking for a friendly, organised and proactive person to join us as our new Activities and Volunteer Coordinator. This is a hands-on, people-focused role. You’ll be the go-to person for keeping our weekly sessions running smoothly, supporting facilitators, welcoming learners, managing session admin and planning community events like our summer show and Christmas party. You’ll also take the lead on developing our volunteer programme by recruiting, inducting and supporting the amazing people who give their time to help make Stepping Stones such a special place.
You’ll be supported by our Charity Manager and work closely with a small, passionate team who care deeply about inclusion, wellbeing and creativity.
