The ‘be you’ project aims to provide a safe and inclusive space in every Hestia refuge to support women to gain confidence, socialise, develop and most importantly enjoy themselves!
Each refuge will have a weekly or bi-weekly meeting, where all the women will be invited to join. There will be tea, coffee, juice, cake and fun activities such as knitting, colouring, jewellery making and much more.
What you will be doing
- facilitating an agreed time table of weekly activities for the women in the refuge to include set up, explaining any instructions, assisting women to complete the activities, keeping track of activity materials and keeping a note of needed replacements for staff to re-order
- Visit a refuge or refuges on a regular basis (once a week or once every other week).
- Purchase and bring refreshments and snacks (you will be given the money to do this)
- Facilitate each group – this will include chatting with the women about that week’s topic and what support the ‘be you’ project can offer them.
- Engaging with the women to find out how the activities are going and keeping staff up to date on feedback and on any suggestions for new activities or improvements
- Keep records and feedback important information to your supervisor.

The purpose of the Audit & Risk Committee is to assist the Board of Trustees in fulfilling its obligations in respect of financial and governance reporting, internal control and risk. Our Audit & Risk Committee volunteers contribute to a well-run organisation, and their time and expertise help our Committee work in the best, most effective way possible.
The Board of Trustees delegates authority to the Committee to oversee the Cats Protection financial reporting process. This ensures the balance, transparency and integrity of published financial information to:
- ensure that there is a framework for accountability
- examine systems and methods of control, with particular emphasis on risk management and the effective use of risk-based outsourced internal audit receive reports from external auditors and consider rotation of audit partners
- ensure that Cats Protection is complying with statutory and regulatory requirements and good practice
- ensure implementation of recommendations from internal and external auditors
- ensure ongoing objectivity and independence
Your role will also include:
- attending Committee meetings
- reading papers
- preparing for meetings
- raising appropriate challenge or concerns undertaking any actions required in the agreed timescales
- supporting the Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee
- keeping informed about the activities of the charity and wider issues affecting the charity and the Audit & Risk Committee in particular

We provide a free national helpline, email and webchat service, online resources and information, support for local groups and professional networks, for families with children who stammer, and an Advocacy Service for those who have been discriminated against because of their stammer.
STAMMA’s Helpline Services include our phoneline, webchat and email support services and are a hugely important part of STAMMA’s work. This is frontline stuff, responding to people reaching out for information and support. It’s a great opportunity to spend time chatting with people who stammer, as well as their parents, grandparents, teachers and employers, taking the time to make space to listen and to value what they have to say. Where appropriate we then signpost people to useful information, support and services.
We use a virtual call centre which means you can take calls and webchats from home, using a desktop or laptop computer.
Our helpline is manned by our amazing volunteers from 10am - 2pm (our morning shift), and from 4pm - 8pm (our evening shift), Monday to Thursday. We are looking for dedicated volunteers who can commit to one of the following shifts on a weekly basis:
Monday 18:00 – 20:00
Thursday 10:00 to 14:00
We think that you (and our callers!) will get the most out of this opportunity if you're able to volunteer with us for at least 12 months or more. By gradually learning and developing your confidence in the role, you can have the biggest impact.

If you wish to, you can also be linked to an area of project work. That way, if the helpline services are quiet during your shift, you can get involved in other areas of STAMMA’s work. Project work is likely to involve reading and reviewing documents and resources, contributing to discussions and campaign ideas, and helping develop new resources.
We provide structured, online training that you can complete at your own pace, but is likely to take about 8-10 hours in total to complete. Following the training, you’ll have practice helpline calls and webchats. If you feel ready after that, you’ll start working in the helpline services. Ongoing support includes:
- Monthly helpline services meetings where you can meet other helpline volunteers. These monthly meetings include a short training session and discussion where we share and learn from our experiences of different calls and webchats.
- We have a WhatsApp group where you can keep in touch with other volunteers.
- Volunteer supervisors are available for one-to-one support and discussions.
- Access the training modules as many times as you want.
Who are we looking for?
You’re likely to enjoy volunteering in the Helpline Services if you:
- have a genuine curiosity about people and their experiences
- are able to understand written and spoken English
- are comfortable enough to speak on the telephone
- are comfortable with basic email functions
- have good administration skills
- enjoy listening and talking to people
It’s not essential to stammer yourself if you’re interested in working in our helpline, but it can be an advantage if you do, or if you are the parent of a child who stammers. Many of our callers find it really helpful to know that they’re speaking to someone who really ‘gets it’ and who has that personal insight into some of the issues and questions they have.
This is a volunteer role is remote, so you will need access to:
- a quiet place where you can work in privacy and not be overheard during calls
- a mobile phone or landline
- a computer or laptop

Why we want you:
Food banks provide three-day emergency food parcels for people in crisis, volunteering in partnership with organisations across the community. Through our social media platforms, we are aiming to gain support for our activity as a food bank and raise awareness in our local community of the drivers pushing people into poverty in order to inspire local people to take action and support us. We are looking for a Social Media volunteer to help oversee and drive this important activity forward and enable us to elevate the voice of food bank staff, volunteers, and those with first-hand experience of hardship.
What you will be doing:
- Lead the development and delivery of our social media and communications plan.
- Prepare a social media calendar of key annual activities for the next 12 months.
- Increase our Social media presence and grow our follower numbers.
- Create regular, innovative and engaging social media posts that reflect our campaigns, key activities, events, and requests for support.
- Engage and interact with our followers, keeping them up to date with activities and developments.
- Follow, reshare, and like posts from our key audiences, ensuring our accounts remain active and relevant Identify new trends we might use to strengthen our position within the community.
- Monthly meetings with the food bank manager to plan our social media activity.
- Once a month, visit our 3 sites to create content and stories.
- 4-6 hours per week
The skills you need:
- Experience and understanding in using social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter (privately or professionally)
- Ability to think creatively to deliver engaging and authentic online content with accuracy and good attention to detail.
- Strong in your writing skills and able to deliver messages clearly and confidently.
- Ability to operate in a professional manner when communicating online.
- Understanding the need for confidentiality, safeguarding, and data protection.

Time expectation
This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.
We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

About YAUK
Youth Advantage UK is a charitable organization that uses a research-led approach to inform policy work and projects that aim to promote and further the human rights of young people aged 11 to 25 across the United Kingdom.
Please note that this is a remote VOLUNTEER role.

Responsibilities

As the Senior HR Officer in our Volunteer Relations team, you will be reporting directly to the HR Manager, as well as oversee the day-to-day management of volunteer relations across our organisation, ensuring the smooth execution of policies and adherence to the Volunteer Handbook. Your role involves being the primary point of contact for volunteers, addressing queries, and resolving issues promptly while upholding the organisation’s standards and values.

You will also play a key role in fostering a professional and supportive environment for all volunteers, maintaining productive relationships, and ensuring operational excellence in volunteer management.
Duties
1. Exit Management
- Facilitate seamless volunteer offboarding processes, including conducting structured exit interviews to identify areas of improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of exits to inform retention and engagement strategies.
- Ensure compliance with organisational policies during volunteer departures.
2. Volunteer Inactivity Management
- Monitor volunteer activity levels and implement inactivity management procedures in collaboration with line managers.
- Maintain updated records to track and report volunteer activity trends.
3. Grievance and Conflict Resolution
- Implement and manage an efficient grievance procedure to handle volunteer concerns professionally and promptly.
- Ensure impartiality and transparency in addressing grievances, collaborating with relevant stakeholders for resolution.
- Collaborate with the L&D team to provide periodic training for volunteers and managers on grievance handling and conflict resolution.
4. Policy Execution and Compliance
- Act as the primary custodian of the Volunteer Handbook, ensuring volunteers are well-informed about organisational policies and procedures.
- Monitor compliance with organisational guidelines and address any violations in consultation with the HR Manager.
- Partner with the Policy team to update the Volunteer Handbook periodically to reflect regulatory changes and organisational needs.
5. Volunteer Relations
- Serve as the first point of contact for volunteers, addressing their queries and concerns to foster a positive environment.
- Actively promote inclusivity and diversity in all volunteer-related activities.
6. Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure all volunteer-related activities comply with organisational and legal standards.
- Prepare regular reports on the approved Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including challenges and support needed.
