FoBV is seeking four new Trustees to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Friends of Bennerley Viaduct (FoBV) at a very exciting time in the life of this organisation.

About us:

Bennerley Viaduct, known locally as the ‘Iron Giant’, is one of only two wrought iron railway viaducts remaining in the UK. It was built in 1877 by the Great Northern Railway Company but was closed to rail traffic in 1968. It is now a Grade II* monument, beloved in the area.

Saved from demolition following a public enquiry in 1980 the Bennerley Viaduct stood dormant for 40 years until 2020. In 2020 FoBV was formed as a CIO to bring together the community that was interested in this structure and its surrounding environment. FoBV have since worked in partnership with the owners of the viaduct, Railway Paths Limited (RPL), and funders to restore the viaduct for public access and bring it to life with a programme of activities.

FoBV now lease the viaduct from RPL and has successfully attracted funding for the restoration of the viaduct and activity programmes from NHLF, Severn Trent Community Fund, World Monuments Fund amongst many others. FoBV has also worked in partnership with Broxtowe Borough Council to secure funding to deliver a new visitor centre, café and accessible ramp for the viaduct as part of the Kimberley Town Bid.

We now need to strengthen the existing Board of Trustees to oversee this next stage of the life of the ‘Iron Giant’ as we complete the new visitor centre and its fully accessible eastern ramp. We are looking for Trustees specifically with skills in Marketing & social media, Fundraising & Grants, Hospitality sector and Learning.

What does it Involve?

As a member of the board of trustees, you’ll be involved in:

· Setting the FoBV’s strategic direction, setting goals/targets and monitoring progress

· Ensuring the effective and efficient administration and financial stability of FoBV and its assets

· Joining a sub-committee or working group of the board based on your skills and experience and contribute to delivering identified priorities

· Ensuring FoBV complies with its constitution, charity law, and other relevant legislation or regulations

· Contributing to the appointment, support and monitoring of staff and volunteers

· Safeguarding the reputation and values of FoBV

· Building relationships with stakeholders, members and supporters

· Occasionally representing FoBV at events and acting as a spokesperson

What is FoBV looking for?

We don't expect you to bring lots of previous experience as a trustee, but to be successful as a trustee you are likely to have:

· The ability to operate impartially and objectively

· Commitment to FoBV vision, values and strategy

· Able demonstrate knowledge and experience of the skillsets that we are looking for.

· Proven strategic thinking ability combined with ability to be ‘hands on’ with issues.

· The ability to network and build relationships at all levels

· The commitment to devote the necessary time and effort needed for this role

· Excellent communication skills along with tact and diplomacy

· Trustees are required to attend six board meetings a year and offer support to the charity as and when required. Trustees are expected to contribute to other aspects of running the charity where their skills, experience and time commitments allow it.

We are looking for four new trustees. We’re particularly keen to hear from people who can bring skills in the following areas:

· Learning/education

· Hospitality experience, particularly with events and café operations

· Marketing & Social Media

· Fundraising/ Grant Giving

Children with Voices, a dynamic children's charity based in Hackney, London, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Operations Manager to join our team. As our local group Activities Organiser you’ll play a crucial role in developing and planning activities and events with your local group. You’ll be responsible for creating and coordinating an annual calendar of events and making sure they’re run safely and effectively to make the most impact. You’ll take a lead role at events on the day and inspire your fellow volunteers to get involved.

As an Events and Communications Coordinator volunteer, you will play an essential role in supporting the charity’s event planning and communication efforts.  While this role is unpaid, it offers a valuable opportunity to gain experience and contribute to the charity’s mission.

Responsibilities:

Event Assistance:

• Collaborate with the events team to assist in planning and executing events.
• Help with brainstorming event ideas or proactively coming up with event ideas that would be beneficial for the charity.
• Provide support with tasks such as coordinating logistics, contacting vendors and attendees and helping with on-site event management.

Communication Support:

• Assist with the development and implementation of communication strategies to the target audience and materials.
• Help to increase the reach and impact of communication pieces by distributing and sharing newsletters, leaflets, posts etc. to relevant communities and outlets.

Content Creation:

• Assist in writing and editing promotional materials, such as event invitations and social media posts.
• Help with graphic design tasks, such as creating event posters and online graphics.
• Document the event, as directed, through photos and videos that can be used by the marketing team for marketing purposes.
• Photo and video editing skills are not essential but highly valued.

Audience Engagement:

• Help to drive reach and impact of social media activity through engaging with posts and sharing to local communities.
• Help to drive event attendance, registrations and, ultimately, optimise results for every event undertaken.

Collaboration:

• Work closely with the organisation's teams to ensure consistent messaging and branding.

Event Support:

• Volunteer at events to assist with various tasks, such as registration, guest services, and ensuring smooth event execution.

Post-Event Feedback:

• Assist in collecting feedback and data to evaluate the success of events and communication efforts.

Personal specification:

This is a role for someone who can play an active and on-site role for Manchester-based events.

Project Coordinator

Job Title: EPAfrica Summer Team – Project Coordinator (PC)
Location: Kakamega, Kenya 

Duration: Minimum 3 weeks during our summer programme, which runs from approximately 1st July – 13th September 2025.
Start Date: UK-based training and preparation begins in June, with travel to Kenya taking place several days before the start of your placement.

 Compensation: Non-salaried placement, with the following expenses covered:

• Travel: Project-related travel in and around Kakamega County is fully covered.

• Accommodation: Fully covered throughout the EPAfrica summer. 

• Programme delivery costs: All costs associated with programme delivery (travel to sites, partner meeting expenses, etc) paid for by the charity.

• Additional Costs: Round-trip flights to Kenya and limited subsistence costs, plus any personal travel elsewhere within Kenya (e.g., for your holiday week). 

About EPAfrica

EPAfrica (Education Partnerships Africa) is a volunteer-led charity working in partnership with rural secondary schools in East Africa. Our mission is to create sustainable change in education by investing in resources, infrastructure, and local capacity. Our volunteers are central to our work — building strong relationships, learning deeply about the local context, and delivering projects that matter.

Role Overview

As a Project Coordinator (PC), you will be a key part of the Summer Team, supporting the smooth operation of EPAfrica’s in-country summer programme. You’ll work alongside the Project Manager and other Project Coordinators to provide on-the-ground coordination, logistical support, and pastoral care for our Project Workers (PWs). This is a dynamic and rewarding role that gives you insight into international development, team leadership, and operational planning.

Key Responsibilities

• With guidance from the Project Manager (PM), support our team of Project Workers (PWs) in their school placements, including:

  • Monitor project progress and guide PWs to address any issues as they arise

  • Offering pastoral support and help maintain the wellbeing of Project Workers

  • Co-deliver trainings on topics such as project management, effective international development practices, safety and wellbeing, and cultural awareness

  • Coordinating key operational logistics relating to summer programme delivery.

• Facilitate communication between PWs, our in-country Summer Team, and the UK-based central charity team.

• Help deliver our in-country monitoring and evaluation programme, enabling us to effectively plan for and deliver future investments. This includes:

  • Monitoring visits to current & recent investment schools to gauge impact of EPAfrica’s work

  • Assessment visits to potential future EPAfrica participant schools

  • Staying up-to-date research into developments in the Kenyan education system and potential impacts on our work

  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with our network of local partners.

• Contribute to Summer Team planning, reflection sessions, and process documentation

• Help to maintain the safety, security, and wellbeing of the Kenya-based team, working within the charity’s risk guidelines.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong familiarity with, and demonstrated interest in, EPAfrica’s values and operating model.

• A demonstrated interest in grassroots international development is required; previous experience in this setting (volunteering, fieldwork, or prior work experience) preferred.

• Experience being a part of teams delivering project-based work, and leading with empathy. 

• Effective communication skills and the ability to work with stakeholders from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. 

• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and solve problems under pressure.

• Willingness to operate in a challenging, fast-paced environment and to be involved in making decisions which affect the wider team.

• Experience as a Project Worker or previous Summer Team involvement preferred – but alternatively, relevant professional or volunteering experience in a similar context.

 How much time will it take?  

The collection is from 6.30pm - 11pm.

Bonus: - You will get to watch the concert from this choir who last sang with Stereophonics & Tom Jones.

Are you looking for a Fundraising role that makes a real difference to a local charity? 

 At Acorns we provide care and support for life limited or life threatened children and their families. We are a charity, and our fundraising is vital to enable us to continue providing care and support to the children: it costs around £11 million a year to run our care services. 

We are looking for volunteers to join us at Morrisons Acocks Green on Saturday 23rd August 2025 and you'll join our fundraising team, collecting donations from shoppers.

 How much time will it take?  

The collection is from 10.00am – 4.00pm, but you can join us at any point for an hour or two.
