Pancreatic Cancer Action aims to improve the survival of men and women diagnosed with pancreatic cancer by raising awareness of symptoms and risk factors, funding research into early diagnosis, campaigning for more funding and providing patients with information and support.
We are looking for Community Volunteers to represent the charity and help us reach as many people as possible when spreading awareness of pancreatic cancer and supporting PCA with our vital work by raising funds.

What the role involves:

Inspiring local community businesses to take part in campaigns such as “Bake It Purple” or “PJ’s for PanCan”

Holding awareness stands in your local area

Give short awareness talks in your local community

Distribute our bespoke healthcare information to Pharmacies and GP surgeries

Promote and manage our collection tin(s) within your community. Empty, record and bank the collections.

Attend cheque presentations and thank fundraisers in person on behalf of PCA
-
Organise bucket collections and handing out information about pancreatic cancer in your local area

We’re always looking for empathetic individuals with great listening skills to train as non-religious pastoral support volunteers and join the Non-Religious Pastoral Support Network (NRPSN), working within Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care teams to provide like-minded support for people in difficult times. Research has shown that despite purporting to support everyone, only 4% of chaplaincy team visits are made to non-religious people. However, 69% of the population think specific non-religious care should be available, and non-religious people have the same need to talk about ‘the big questions’ and receive like-minded support.
Our volunteers and paid members work in the NHS, HMPPS, and the armed forces. We have trained more than 300 pastoral carers, and currently have a presence in 9% of prisons and in 30% of NHS Trusts and growing. The covid-19 pandemic has severely affected our volunteer numbers, and we are working hard to ensure that non-religious pastoral care is available to all. After training, you’ll need to be able to commit at least half a day a week to volunteering, and you’ll need some tenacity along with the confidence and interpersonal skills to work with religious colleagues. You’ll be rewarded by being a positive support to people in their hour of need, and by being part of real change in how institutions support non-religious people.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Are you an excellent listener? Could you visit care homes to help people talk about their end of life wishes and personal goals?
Our Talk About service operates in East Dorset in partnership with the NHS and helps people to have the time and safe space to consider their end of life wishes and share them with those closest to them. Thinking about death is always a challenging ask but with this project we want to change the conversation and help people Talk About it to ensure more people have their version of a ‘good death’ where they want it to be, and with their wishes being met.
We are looking for empathetic and self-motivated individuals to join our team of Companion Volunteers to support the Talk About project.
The main element of this role will be supporting residents in care homes across East Dorset. You will spend your time discussing and recording their wishes and will need to be confident using IT to do this.
There will also be opportunities to support community events, network with local organisations and community groups and co-facilitate training, among other activities.

Marie Curie Helper is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families.
To enable us to reach more people who would benefit from our support we need help to;
- Raise awareness and knowledge of the Helper service
- Ensure that people who are referred to the Helper service are appropriately assessed
- Increase our number of trained Helper volunteers and ensure they are well supported in their role.
- Demonstrate Marie Curie values; always compassionate, making things happen, leading in our field, people at our heart
- Support volunteers in training, offering 1:1 support and facilitating peer support groups
- Organise social events and engagement activities for volunteers

With support from their Volunteer Coordinator a Lead Volunteer will play an important part in supporting the Helper service to reach more people within their own local community.
Your role will mainly be based in your local community and may include some of, but is not restricted to, the following typical tasks:
- Assess terminally ill people and/or their carers either in their own home, nursing or residential care to identify their needs and determine if the Marie Curie Helper service would be appropriate for them.
- Provide cover for Helper volunteers, offering companionship and emotional support, practical support and short breaks for carers. You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or during bereavement. This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested
- Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (eg to chemotherapy appointments or day therapy at the hospice)
- Follow all mandatory procedures that form part of the Helper service.
- Provide cover as a lone worker Buddy to support Helper volunteers, as needed
- Keeping up to date with Helper service guidance and best practice
- Liaising with existing and potential referrers to the Helper service
- Liaising with clients and their families via telephone
- Promoting the Helper volunteer role including (with training/approval) media activity
- Helping with the recruitment of new volunteers, including interviews and selection
- Keeping accurate records
- Liaising regularly with the Volunteer Coordinator and other team members
- Reporting concerns and celebrating compliments and successes
- Assisting with evaluations and development of the Helper service
- Help with other related tasks when necessary

As the vegan community grows, veganism itself becomes better understood. We're finding that more people are looking to The Vegan Society to find out what being vegan is really all about.
Local communities are starting to see the vegan movement as something real and something that’s happening in their area. A greater number of people are embracing a vegan lifestyle, which we welcome. From new businesses, to families, to councillors, many people need support. This could be with a range of topics: going vegan, finding correct information, providing vegan options in their business, MPs listening to vegan constituents, and learning about our work.
Local issues are often unique and more varied than national issues. Our volunteers from local areas are vital! They enable us to share our messages and campaigns in an effective way. Research tells us that people are far more likely to trust information from a peer rather than an outside expert or organisation, so community volunteering vastly increases the impact of our campaigns.
Our network of committed local vegans across the country is growing! The Vegan Society organises various outreach activities to influence change in every level of society. There are a range of activities going on all the time, from general educational stalls at events to meeting with local policy influencers.
What does the Organiser role involve?
Every month, you will be sent a collection of tasks to choose from. We create these from our programme of campaigns. You would be the point of contact for Advocates in your area, sharing these tasks and coordinating activities, such as stalls and lobbying councillors. We will provide you with a campaign toolkit and be in regular contact with you to ensure you have everything you need. You will also be invited to our private Facebook group and WhatsApp chat.
We would expect you to provide any updates from your group and give feedback on each task. It's vital that we measure the impact that we are having, in terms of positive conversations and leaflets handed out. You can also give us ideas you have for future outreach tasks or campaigning. Many Organisers find a huge sense of satisfaction, improvement in self-esteem and enjoy the social side of volunteering in this role.
You will also be responsible for welcoming new Advocates in your area. We will let you know when somebody new applies, and you will help them to get involved with any activities. As the main contact for Advocates, this role does require some awareness of safeguarding and data protection procedures and policy. You'll also be the health and safety contact for your group. There will be full training on your role in this, as well as a handbook and ongoing guidance and support.
As an Organiser, you will ensure any resources or actions undertaken are in line with our branding and messaging guidelines and make sure that Advocates understand this too.
What training and support is available?
There will be a full induction to the role, with a gradual introduction of new tasks and responsibilities. To start with, we will provide an initial training session to cover the basics of community organising, communication skills and event planning. This will be done remotely from wherever you are. Along with this, we will provide a full pack of resources that covers a range of work that we do.
From there, there will be regular conversations and reviews, where we can discuss other training requirements. Staff are always available to Organisers for any questions, via phone or email.

It would be beneficial for this role to have access to a vehicle, as some actions will involve taking resources to events or visiting MPs’ offices. However, this is not mandatory as the campaign toolkit can be carried in a backpack.
How much time do I need to invest?
This role requires more time than the Advocate role. You should be able to commit around two days a month to carry out actions, and this is usually spread out across the month. We also expect timely responses to emails. When a new Advocate applies to work with you, we would like them to be contacted within seven days.

School Partnerships Manager
We are looking for a committed and engaging person to join our small team who are developing AFFCAD UK during an exciting time of growth to ensure our long-term sustainability. This role will be responsible for developing and supporting our relationships with school partners to raise funds and awareness for the work we are doing empowering communities in Uganda.
We currently hold relationships with 3 schools in London. This role will support us to develop and nurture these relationships and develop a formalised strategy for our school partnerships programme over the next 2 – 5 years.
This is an important but flexible role in which the volunteer can develop their skills whilst working alongside our leadership team and trustees.

Our role is to provide fundraising advice & support to our Supporter Groups, Community Organisations, Regional Corporates, Volunteers & Events.
How can you help?
We are recruiting a team of Charity Ambassadors to help develop engagement across each Region, to maximise opportunities to raise funds and increase support from the Community. You will be actively involved with The Charity on the ground and play a key role working alongside the Regional Community Fundraisers, as and when required:
· Identifying various opportunities in your local area to raise awareness of The Charity & our wide range of Fundraising Campaigns. This could anything from contacting your local supermarket’s ‘Community Champion’ and organising an information stand and bucket collection or supporting a Supporter Group meet up in your area.
· Representing The Charity in your area, by undertaking presentations & cheque collections at schools, local companies & community groups
· Helping us to recruit new fundraisers and supporting those who are already signed up for a campaign, in your area. For example, attending a local Twilight Walk or promoting The Big Bake to local companies.

By amplifying The Charity's voice in your local area, you'll help increase the impact of fundraising campaigns & help grow funds and support us in accelerating a cure for everyone affected by a brain tumour diagnosis.

Time commitment
Initially, we envisage a minimum of 2 or 3 days per month, depending on the regional focus, and this will also be guided by whether you are researching new awareness raising opportunities in your area, or setting up a school presentation for example. Flexibility if a key part of the role as we are often presented with exciting opportunities to raise awareness or funds, at short notice.
Practical considerations
You will receive training from the Community Fundraising Team and ongoing direction from a Regional Community Fundraiser, who will be your key contact. We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18. We encourage volunteers to claim for any reasonable expenses that are incurred in the course of their volunteering with the Charity.

You will be accountable for overseeing all of our events, external comms and activities aimed at increasing Students4Students’ impact in the local communities we operate in. You will be responsible for our team of Community and Events officers, who run events and community building activities in our branches.
Students4Students (S4S) is a member led charity which is split across 3 branches. Our focus is on increasing educational attainment for all pupils, irrespective of their background. Our biggest programme is currently our tutoring programme. However, we are now looking to expand our work to increase general awareness of the issues impacting educational inequality.
We believe that we can use our experience and knowledge from our tutoring programme to become a significant voice to the debates ongoing on how to fight educational inequality. We also think that raising our profile will have a positive impact on our tutoring programme. We are therefore looking for someone to help us raise S4S’s profile , run effective events and engage with the key debates that we care about.
Responsibilities and duties
The post-holder will be responsible for:
• Owning and managing the processes for how S4S runs/produces external events and comms.
• Designing and executing a strategy for how S4S can increase its impact outside of the tutoring programme.
• Support internal efforts to build a strong sense of community amongst our members.
• Manage the team of branch Community and Events officers; including providing training, coaching and support for them.
Time commitment
• Throughout the year – We expect the post holder to commit to an average of 2 hours per week

Deafblind UK support people who have combined sight and hearing loss -we help them to live with their condition and to build their confidence and independence.
Deafblindness affects everyone in different ways. Some people might have mild sight and hearing loss whereas others can’t see or hear anything. It can be isolating and lonely and it’s far more common than many people realise. Around 400,000 people are affected by sight and hearing loss in the UK.
As a Regional Charity Champion, you will be the vital link between Deafblind UK and your local community. You will champion and advocate the work and services that Deafblind UK offers and raise awareness of dual sensory loss engaging with local groups and organisations.
The commitment and skills of our volunteer family enable us to reach out to those in our far-flung communities whose lives could potentially be transformed by our support. Your knowledge of your own local area will help us to impact and support those adapting to, and living with, a dual sensory loss.
This is a flexible role which can differ for each volunteer depending on your strengths and experience. It might involve attending public events and groups in your local area delivering short talks or simply circulating information about the charity to raise awareness, make new connections and attract new members.
