Job Title: Fundraising Manager – Trusts and Statutory

Salary: £42,000 per annum, plus 15% ILW if appropriate

Hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week

Contract Type: 11-month fixed term contract starting March 2026

Location: Hybrid – 3 days a week in one of our centres (London, Liverpool, Birmingham or Newcastle)

The Charity

Suicide is the leading cause of death of men under 35 and three quarters of those who die by suicide are men. James’ Place exists to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis through delivering clinical services. We are a charity currently offering free, life-saving therapy to suicidal men at our centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle.

James’ Place was set up by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley in 2008 after their twenty-one-year-old son, James, died by suicide ten days after a minor operation. James had no history of mental illness or depression and had sought urgent help for anxiety and suicidal thoughts but didn’t find it.   

James' Place was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. We offer men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected.  We provide a calm and peaceful environment both inside the centres and in our outside spaces, accessible to men who visit us as well as their friends and families. We have so far treated over 4,300 men who might otherwise have been unable to access the support they desperately need.

In early 2026 we will be opening our fourth centre in Birmingham. Our new centre in Birmingham will be there to support suicidal men living in the West Midlands.

The Opportunity

James’ Place has huge ambitions to grow to reach more men in suicidal crisis. We are seeking an experienced fundraising manager to join us on a Fixed Term Contract to cover a period of maternity leave.

Trusts and Statutory is a crucial, high-performing and mature income stream for James’ Place. In this Fixed Term Contract, the postholder will be care-taking as well as continuing to grow income and help the team to finalise our current fundraising appeal. The organisation has recently invested in a new Executive Leadership Team to drive forward the development of our new strategy, so there is a real opportunity for this postholder to contribute to this process.

The purpose of this role is to raise funds for James’ Place:

• working with the Head of Fundraising and Communications to deliver the expansion appeal; and
• taking overall responsibility for building the relationships with and securing income from Trusts and Statutory sources to realise our aim to deliver more life-saving support for men in suicidal crisis nationally.

Key Responsibilities

80% Direct fundraising work:

• Responsible for a portfolio of donors, volunteers and prospects and an annual fundraising target of c. £750,000 - £1,000,000 from trusts, foundations, and statutory sources.
• Build a network of donors and volunteer supporters and influencers across a range of audiences, maintaining and developing relationships, who can support your fundraising.
• Work with the Head of Fundraising and Communications on the national appeal and other central fundraising work. This will include attending events and writing major grant applications and other proposals.
• Support the Head of Fundraising and Communications to maximise opportunities through the Appeal Board.
• Manage engagement and fundraising events to support the organisation’s fundraising ambitions.
• Build compelling cases for James’ Place projects to put to prospective and existing funders, ensuring accurate financial information is presented clearly.

20% Fundraising administration:

• Ensuring regulatory and best practice guidelines are understood and adhered to in all fundraising and public facing work.
• Work with colleagues in the London centre and across the organisation, to develop their experience and confidence in fundraising activities, ensuring they are fully briefed and supported at all times.
• Ensure all activities are of a high standard, meeting all relevant regulations and best practice guidelines.

Work in the wider charity:

• Always represent James’ Place with respect, decorum, and confidence.
• Work with the team to build our understanding of men in suicidal crisis and how suicidal behaviour develops.
• Deputise for the Head of Fundraising and Communications and represent the charity as and when needed.
• Recognise the value of review and evaluation and contribute to the on-going development of James’ Place as a respected, effective, and sustainable charity.
• Undertake any other duties as required in pursuit of organisational success, based around delivery of the organisational business plan.

Person Specification

Essential

• A good track record of fundraising in the charity sector, with proven results or equivalent relevant transferable experience.
• Experience of success in trusts and statutory fundraising and an excellent understanding of and experience of meeting the expectations of these funders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the confidence to engage and build relationships with stakeholders and partners at the highest level.
• A keen eye for detail and ability to analyse complex data and research findings to extrapolate key messages to create compelling cases for support or to communicate the impact of interventions.
• The ability to present this complex information in the most appropriate format tailored to the specific audience.

As Centre Fundraiser, you will assist the Centre Fundraising Manager to implement the fundraising strategy to deliver income targets through proactive donor recruitment and excellent donor care.  

This includes supporting and retaining existing supporters and researching new key relationships with individuals as well as partnerships with local businesses, groups and associations.  

You will represent the work, vision and purpose of Maggie’s whilst supporting the delivery of local and central fundraising initiatives and campaigns. This includes presentations, face to face, telephone and written communications.  

There will be a requirement to work irregular hours as well as frequent local travel.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue is looking for an inspiring, self-motivated and target-driven Fundraising and Volunteer Manager who can hit the ground running. Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, whose mission is to see a time when no deaf person feels alone, is seeking a Senior Trusts and Foundations Manager to develop and secure six and seven figure, multi-year grants from trusts, foundations and other institutional grant funders, e.g. the National Lottery.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People has been creating life-changing partnerships between hearing dogs and deaf recipients since 1982. As well as acting as an ear to their partners and alerting them to sounds, the charity’s clever and expertly trained dogs help deaf people to live life with confidence and independence, whilst providing love, companionship and emotional support.

Following on from a strategic review, the charity is now building a new Income Generation Directorate, to enable them to transform many more lives across the UK. This role will be critical to help Hearing Dogs reach their goals to diversify income, grow their philanthropy programme and increase engagement and impact.

Reporting to the Head of Trusts and Foundations, this role will work as part of a small but high department to deliver objectives and income targets. The role will deputise for the Head of Trusts and Foundations as required and support in the development of the strategy for the department, working across the organisation with colleagues, senior staff, trustees and external trusts and foundation contacts. A key focus of the role will be making bids and writing applications to maximise financial support from charitable trusts and foundations in a team which has a target of £1.15m in 2025-26, growing to £2.1m by 2029-30.

The ideal candidates will have a substantial background in Trusts and Foundation fundraising within the charity sector and experience of delivering excellent stewardship with external stakeholders. You will have experience of large scale and complex (£ six/seven figure) bid writing for specific projects over multiple years. • Contribute to organisational strategy and income forecasting Trusts, Foundations and Grants
• Research and identify new funding opportunities across trusts, foundations, and grant makers.
• Write compelling and tailored funding proposals that align with the charity’s strategic priorities and projects.
• Manage relationships with funders, providing high quality reports, updates, and stewardship.
• Secure funding for both core operational costs and specific charity projects.
• Lead the development of long term income growth plans, ensuring the charity has a balanced and sustainable fundraising portfolio.
• Strengthen supporter pipelines across all income streams, from first engagement to long term stewardship.
• Identify new areas for income development, testing and scaling approaches that have strong potential.

Community and Events Fundraising:

• Oversee the delivery of a range of community and challenge fundraising events, including flagship charity events and third party challenges.
• Support the team to plan and deliver special fundraising events, such as donor receptions and corporate challenges (abseils, treks, marathons, etc).
• Ensure high quality supporter experiences to maximise income and retention.
• Develop creative campaigns to engage new supporters and volunteers across the UK.

Individual Giving and Supporter Development:

• Support the team to grow regular giving and one off donations through creative campaigns and appeals.
• Oversee stewardship processes to ensure all supporters receive timely, engaging, and personal communication.
• Use insights and data to understand supporter motivations and improve donor journeys.
• Develop a clear supporter development strategy that nurtures long term giving and encourages upgrades, reactivation, and retention.
• Introduce new development led approaches such as supporter segmentation, insight driven journeys, and testing plans.

Major Donors and High Value Giving:

• Build and maintain relationships with philanthropists and high net worth individuals.
• Develop a programme to secure transformational gifts and long term strategic support.

Monitoring, Reporting and Compliance:

• Manage budgets and income forecasts across all fundraising streams.
• Report regularly to the Executive Leadership Team on income, progress, and new opportunities.
• Ensure all fundraising activity complies with relevant regulations, codes of practice, and GDPR requirements.
• Maintain accurate and up to date records using the charity’s CRM and fundraising platforms.

Essential Experience and Skills:

• Significant experience in fundraising, with a proven track record of success across multiple income streams (particularly trusts, corporates, or major donors).
• Demonstrated success in achieving income growth and diversifying fundraising portfolios.
• Proven experience leading and motivating fundraising teams.
• Excellent relationship building and communication skills, with confidence engaging a wide range of stakeholders.
• Strong written skills, including experience developing successful bids, cases for support, and partnership proposals.
• Sound financial and strategic planning skills, including budget management, forecasting, and reporting.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands.
• Confident, proactive, and able to work independently while contributing to team goals.
• A collaborative and positive leadership style that motivates and empowers others.

In this role, you will lead AfriKids’ relationships with trusts, foundations, and institutional funders, securing five- and six-figure multi-year grants. You’ll co-create compelling proposals and reports with the Ghana team, steward major donors and corporate partners, and help shape the fundraising strategy to expand and safeguard AfriKids’ work.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• A proven track record of securing significant new donations and multi-year grants
