Job description


The Corporate and Major Donor Fundraiser will be a passionate advocate for Thames21’s work at the frontline of tackling the climate and nature emergency by restoring rivers and working with communities. The post holder will draw on their expertise to raise up to £300k+ pa to support Thames21’s core function and enable the charity to upscale its impacts.

What will you be doing?

This role reports to the Fundraising Manager and will work with:

  • Thames21’s Chief Executive
  • Trustees and other senior advisors
  • Communications Manager
  • Head of Finance
  • Senior Managers, Managers and Project Officers


  • Research, network for, identify and approach corporate prospects to secure new partnerships
  • Co-develop imaginative and compelling proposals and packages for corporate partners and sponsors
  • Meet corporates, present and pitch, build relationships at senior level, secure and close deals
  • Build Thames21’s corporate Charity of the Year fundraising, corporate volunteering partnerships, and secure and expand corporate funding for key projects such as London Rivers Week
  • Account manage corporate partners, ensuring excellent stewardship
  • Achieve ambitious targets on revenue to core

Major Donors  

  • Identify, engage and steward prospective high net worth supporters, managing pipelines and cultivation cycles
  • Achieve ambitious targets for unrestricted major donations
  • Support Thames21’s major new Rivers for Life Appeal
  • Deliver high-level stewardship, including events, ensuring partners and supporters feel valued and connected to the charity

Reporting and Administration

  • Handle administration including partnership agreements, invoicing, reporting, thanking individual donors and corporates, Gift Aid claims and record-keeping on CRM database
  • Liaise with Head of Finance on financial reporting.

    What experience will you need?

  • Proven experience of generating new corporate partnerships, completer-finisher skills to ‘close’ the deal, and the confidence to meet targets
  • Ideally, demonstrable experience in researching corporate prospects, developing relationships and account management
  • Ideally an understanding of corporate partnerships, sponsorship, and Charity of the Year
  • Demonstrable rapport-building and articulate and persuasive communication skills including preparing and presenting pitches at senior levels
  • Ideally experience of working collaboratively to develop imaginative and compelling proposals
  • Ideally experience of ensuring that partnership deliverables are met by internal stakeholders and operational teams
  • Ideally a track record of working confidently with Major Donors from prospecting to securing five and six-figure gifts
  • Excellent record-keeping, reporting and stewardship skills and systems
  • Strong IT and written communication skills, proficient use of database.
