About the role:

Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, this post plays a key role in securing and stewarding major gifts from individuals and private trusts and foundations. You will be managing and actively developing existing donors, as well as proactively identifying and cultivating new donor opportunities. The role will involve attending cultivation and stewardship events as well as liaising with the prospect research function and wider Philanthropy team. You will also be responsible for managing and developing one Philanthropy Officer.

About you:

The successful candidate will be an effective face-to-face fundraiser with experience of securing high value donations and managing the full lifecycle of significant donor relationships.

You will be highly motivated and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and financial targets, with excellent communication and people management skills. Strong administrative and organisational skills are essential for this role.

About the role:

The fundraising team raise approximately £400K annually and aspiring to grow by over half a million by 2025. You will be responsible for leading and growing income via the charities Corporate Partnerships and Sporting Challenges. The ideal candidate will have high-level experience in corporate fundraising.

Key responsibilities include:

• Provide excellent account management to some of the charities existing and new corporate relationships.

About the role

This role is responsible for managing and developing the charity’s portfolio of Trusts and Foundations, securing significant gifts and growing the long-term potential of this portfolio (target for 2024 is £378,000). There are no direct reports, however the successful candidate will be expected to work closely with Senior Management Teams, other departments and stakeholders to build and develop cases for support to help fund our much-needed work.

The successful candidate will utilise their expert writing skills to shape those cases for support into compelling, high-quality proposals and reports.

Being able to build relationships with a wide range of audiences including funders is key. Inspiring them to support kidney patients across the UK and engage with the kidney community, enabling them to tell their stories and better communicate how larger Trust grants can make a real difference for people with chronic kidney disease.

A dynamic, self-motivated, ambitious and pro-active fundraiser is required for this role, demonstrating enthusiasm for the projects and services we are seeking funds to support.

About you

The ideal candidate for this role will have experience and a proven track record of successful income generation and delivering against targets.

You will have demonstratable experience in researching potential Trust funders, submitting compelling proposals, securing funding and project managing successful bids through to completion of the grant award.

You will also have a background in report writing and demonstrating grant impact whilst being able to build relationships with funders, individual/major donors and senior stakeholders.

Key responsibilities
Research and process management
• Work closely with our Director of Patient Support Services (Patient Grants, Hospital Grants, Advocacy and Counselling) to fully understand our work, and with our Director of Finance to fully understand the costs of delivering our work
• Build strong cases for support, ensuring that you have all the information needed to create compelling proposals and reports for high and mid-value funders
• Research and identify prospective Trusts and Foundations and other grant giving bodies
• Grow and maintain a strong Trust funding pipeline, creating new Trust prospects for our priority funding areas
• Develop our long-term Trusts and Foundations strategy, and agree ongoing budgets and targets for this income stream
• Maintain accurate records including tracking and analysing opportunities, results, and outcomes

Fundraising
• Identify and manage a pipeline of high-value prospects and opportunities which have the potential of delivering five and six figure grants
• Work with colleagues across Kidney Care UK to develop and submit high-value and high-quality Trust and Foundation bids for a range short, medium and long term projects
• Develop relationships with the Senior Management Team and other key stakeholders across the charity maximising every opportunity for cultivation and development
• Plan and organise opportunities for funders to view Kidney Care UK’s work first-hand, ensuring all safeguarding procedures are followed and met.

Reporting
• Compile comprehensive and compelling progress reports to feed back to grant makers in a timely fashion and incentivise continued support
• Alongside the Director of Finance prepare accurate budgets detailing spending of specific grants
• Draw down on any multi-year grants as outlined in our annual budget
• Provide briefing notes and income pipeline on donor activities and potential funding opportunities.

Fundraising Development Manager

The Fundraising Development Manager role is a real opportunity to help Somerset Wildlife Trust develop a sustainable fundraising strategy and bring together the Fundraising and Supporter Development Team to retain and grow donations. Responsible for our 23,000 members, as well as appeals, adoptions, our online shop and member events, the Fundraising Development Manager will lead the team to bring in a significant proportion of unrestricted income, as well as managing the relationships with some of our most passionate supporters.

We are looking for an insightful fundraising manager who can help us maintain our existing fundraising channels as well as developing our corporate membership strategy and investigating new sources of giving and opportunities we have yet to take advantage of – essential if we are to achieve our ambitious strategy. You’ll be working with the entire wider fundraising team to help develop leads and pipelines to support the wider fundraising efforts, as well as having the opportunity to diversify our fundraising actions.

Meet Fundraising Strategic Targets

Supervise and line manage the Fundraising and Supporter Care Team by building integrated programmes of supporter development activities that retain and grow donations and fundraising from existing supporters and deliver growth in income by recruiting new financial supporters to achieve financial targets.

Responsibility 1: Leading Public Fundraising Activity

Manage fundraising activity through:

• Leading the fundraising team to build integrated programmes of activities that increase donors and deliver growth in income.
• Growing annual membership numbers by managing and maintaining current recruitment channels. Oversee relationships and engagement with our membership including complaint management.
• Managing the relationship with the Trust’s face to face membership recruitment company, SWWFL, to deliver best efficiency and returns on investment.
• Planning and implementing integrated appeals and other ways for members and the public to give which deliver strong results to support the Trust’s fundraising priorities and targets.
• Working as fundraising leadership team with the Philanthropy and Trusts & Grants Managers, supporting the Head of Fundraising on strategic projects.
• Developing and testing activities based on insights and analysis to ensure the best return on investment across all segments of the supporter base, to support fundraising colleagues.
• Managing existing corporate relationships to maintain and improve corporate fundraising levels, supporting account management of corporate partners.
• Establishing a data collection strategy in line with current data protection rules and which creates a pool of warm leads to convert into donors.
• Ensuring our new supporter database (Raiser’s Edge) is fully developed within the Trust and developed to maximise our integration with existing systems. Supporting teams across the organisation to use RE to increase knowledge of existing relationships and creating opportunities for fundraising and engagement.
• Managing the workload, performance and personal development of the supporter development team to drive more support and income for Somerset Wildlife Trust.
• Being accountable for setting the Supporter Development budget and reporting on performance against targets, to help inform planning and product development.
• Championing the use of best practice marketing techniques, including data collection and GDPR, throughout the Trust, with a particular commitment to delivering high standards of supporter care and fundraising practice.

Responsibility 2: Developing sustainable income streams

Be proactive and nurture strong relationships by:

• Identifying, developing and testing new individual giving fundraising activities based on insights and analysis, to ensure sustainable fundraising income across a variety of sources that target all segments of the supporter base.
• Identifying and testing membership recruitment diversification channels and growing annual membership income via techniques including upgrades.
• Designing and implementing a fundraising strategy for corporates, including identifying targets, developing relationships, and significantly increasing income from this fundraising channel. Work with other corporate functions across the Trust to ensure a combined corporate offering that benefits everyone.

Responsibility 3: Developing Fundraising pipelines

Provide management and accountability by:

• Working collaboratively with colleagues to contribute ideas and knowledge to deliver integrated engagement and fundraising campaigns and the growth of other income streams, including gifts of £1k+, gifts in wills, Community Fundraising and Grant Fundraising.
• Creating user journeys and stewardship for our supporters to help retention and increase giving propensities.
• Developing a warm lead generation and development program to increase the number of potential donors within our database, supporting all areas of individual giving including Community Fundraising, Legacies, Major Donors and Patrons.
• Working with the Database Officer, Philanthropy Manager and Community Fundraising Manager to identify segments within the database that could be developed into Major Donors or to support other fundraising income streams.
• Investigating and developing an event strategy to help support specific demographic groups including Corporates, members and other key supporters, including the annual AGM and members day.

About you

As our High Value Engagement Manager, you'll be at the forefront of developing high- quality communication materials to engage donors and partners with our mission. Reporting directly to the Senior High Value Engagement Manager, you'll lead the charge in crafting persuasive narratives and producing captivating content that showcases our impact on children and communities. Your work will focus on fundraising priorities, including flexible funding streams and emergency appeals, allowing us to adapt and respond swiftly to the most pressing needs.

Working in an environment of agile, multi-disciplinary teams, you'll be a great collaborator, building strong relationships and cutting through boundaries, in a fast-moving and dynamic environment. Leveraging agile principles, you'll flex and adapt – learning rapidly and responding to change, while keeping our supporters at the heart of everything you do.

What will an average day look like?

Every day is different in our team, but here are some of the things you can expect to do in this role:

• Lead strategic initiatives to support High Value Engagement and Partnerships & Philanthropy strategies.
• Collaborate closely with the Senior High Value Engagement Manager to inform and deliver team objectives.
• Create inspiring written communications tailored to high-value audiences, highlighting fundraising priorities and impactful stories.
• Develop timely fundraising materials to support priority asks, including emergency communications and high-priority proposals.
• Design professional materials using InDesign and develop engaging digital products such as scrolling stories, to enhance donor engagement.
• Collaborate with the Digital team to drive the development of new digital products and maximise their impact in connecting donors and partners to our work with children.
• Devise innovative strategies to engage donors and partners, leveraging insights from various teams and organisations.
• Provide writing, proofing, and editorial support, and proactively share best practice to ensure consistency in brand tone and messaging across all communications.

To be successful, it is important that you have:

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a track record of producing high-quality, and persuasive communication materials that have succeeded in demonstrating impact and influenced an outcome.
• Ability to translate complex program information into compelling communications for diverse audiences.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling information.
• Proficiency in InDesign and other relevant software for creating visually appealing documents.
• Excellent project management and prioritisation skills.
• Experience working collaboratively in a team environment.

Ways of Working:

The postholder will be responsible for all areas of trusts and grants fundraising, including writing compelling applications that solicit funding for Life’s vital work as well as reporting on our service delivery outcomes, maximising the opportunities for renewed funding. 

The Philanthropy Manager (Trusts, Grants and Foundations) will be responsible for delivering a strategic approach to trusts, grants and foundations; working with service delivery areas of the organisation as well as the finance department, in order to create compelling projects, with measurable outcomes that can be reported on. The postholder will be able to articulate these projects into cases for support within written applications, matching projects with appropriate funders and delivering a compelling ask. This role requires the development of a trusts, grants and foundations pipeline, from research through to reporting, ensuring a sustainable and maximised income stream.

Situated in the Programmes, Policy & Impact Directorate, and reporting into the Head of UK Programmes, the Programme Lead, Carer Poverty Alleviation is a new role linked to the development of a new major programme operating in England, Scotland, and Wales. The Carer Poverty Alleviation Programme is a new Carers Trust programme under our strategic goal that no carer is pushed into poverty or is financially disadvantaged by their caring role.

The Programme Lead role is the fulcrum for this new partnership programme, will be comfortable to lead within and outside of the organisation and in developing a new team to drive the programme to success. This role will excite you if you are an established programmes specialist who is energised by achieving social impact via meaningful delivery partnerships, which in this case are local carer organisations (Carers Trust Network Partners).
