The Philharmonia is a world-class symphony orchestra for the 21st century. Based in London at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, resident in cities and at festivals across England, and streaming online, the Philharmonia creates thrilling performances for a global audience.
Due to their ongoing growth plans they are looking for a Financial Controller to join their organisation. This role maintains the accuracy and integrity of financial information. You will be responsible for the organisations financial accounting and controls function ensuring that the accounts are in the best possible place, working collaboratively with the management accountant to keep a smooth process. You will be the principal point of contact for all aspects of financial control.
Key areas of responsibilities;
- To run the year end audit process, prepare statutory financial statements, including the Charities’ SORP, for the charity, group and its subsidiaries
- To prepare and reconcile the quarterly VAT return including the application of cultural and partial exemption and advise staff on the application of VAT to their specific transactions
- To review withholding tax calculations, keep records of tax deducted from foreign entertainers and submit quarterly returns to HMRC
- To ensure donations are properly recorded so that gift aid is claimed correctly, and VAT accounted for
- To ensure income and expenditure is correctly processed and recognised
- To co-ordinate and control the processing of the outsourced payroll and ensure all regulatory requirements are met
- To ensure all balance sheet codes are reconciled in time for the Finance Business Partner to prepare the monthly management accounts
Who are we looking for?
- A formally qualified accountant with relevant experience of financial accounting gained in a complex organisation
- Someone with experience of producing year end statutory accounts in Charities SORP format, preparing and adhering to year end timelines and being a key point of contact for auditors
- An excellent communicator who is able to influence at all levels within the organisation
- Analytical with good judgement and decision making capability

Irish Chaplaincy (IC) Purpose:
To be a leading and innovative charity which provides high quality services and support to excluded, vulnerable and isolated Irish emigrants in Britain. The Irish Chaplaincy works to address social inequalities in the Irish community in England and Wales through:
• Advocacy, advice and support for Irish prisoners and their families, Irish Travellers, and elderly Irish People.
• Research into issues affecting the rights and wellbeing of Irish people in Britain.
Job Purpose:
Oversight of all aspects of the finance of the Irish Chaplaincy: including pay roll, payment of bills, preparation of regular management accounts and the annual budget.

Key Responsibilities:
Internal & External Communication
• Organising monthly payroll, including pension payments.
• Processing receipts (cash, cheque, online, BACS) and payments in a timely manner, whilst ensuring good record keeping.
• Preparing reconciliations - bank, credit card and balance sheet.
• Preparation and presentation of finance reports to the Board of Trustees.
• Assisting with preparation of Statutory Accounts.
• Preparation and submission of expense and Gift Aid claims.
• Preparation of Annual Budget, in collaboration with the CEO.
• Assisting with any audits which need to be undertaken.
• Liaising with banks where necessary.
• Maintaining the monthly balance sheet reconciliation.
• Liaising with external stakeholders to resolve any outstanding queries.
• Ensuring that all transactions are entered promptly and accurately in the Quickbooks accounting system.
• Prepare figures for reports for external funders on a regular basis.
• Responsible for the provision of any other financial information or forecasts which may be required.
General
• To comply with, and participate in, the development of the Irish Chaplaincy's policies, procedures and practices.
• To undertake other duties commensurate with the post to ensure the effective delivery of the service.
• To maintain appropriate confidentiality at all times.
• Attend and prepare for monthly supervision and participate where possible at monthly IC staff meetings, team development days, AGM and other similar events.
Skills and Competence:
Essential:
1. Qualified management accountant.
2. A detailed understanding and experience of working with the Quickbooks accounting software package.
3. Experienced in Fund account management, relevant to charities.
4. Able to work independently, with sound judgement, good time management and prioritisation skills. Consistent attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines is critical.
5. The ability to problem solve and seek appropriate support where necessary.
6. Excellent written and verbal skills.
7. Excellent level of IT literacy, including MS Excel and MS Word.

The role of Financial Controller is mainly remote however you will be expected to travel to the Central Finance Office in Stourbridge to meet with your team and other relevant locations on occasion.
We’re hoping to hear from those that can provide financial leadership and effective management of the Trusts financial operations including AR, AP, Treasury and Payroll and Fixed Assets, that can ensure the delivery of a proactive and professional customer focused service, ensuring finance deadlines, and legislative and statutory requirements are met.
You’ll work closely with the wider organization, building strong internal relationships to ensure the effective management of financial resources.
Main responsibilities:
oOversee the month end process, working closely with all finance staff.
oWorking closely with the Head of Finance and Finance Business Partners with the preparation and consolidation of the monthly management accounts.
oSupport the Head of Finance and Finance Business Partners during the annual budget cycle and ensure all budgets are agreed and implemented on the accounting system.
oManage the external audit and the year-end processes and complete statutory financial statements to draft stage in accordance with the Charities SORP including all working papers.
oEnsure efficient and effective financial control operates throughout the Trust, ensuring all regional and central financial activities comply with legislation, policies, procedures and the delegated authorities.
oActively oversee the management of the Trust payroll function (including pensions) ensuring compliance with legislation and ensuring accuracy and timeliness of employee pay and third-party payments.
oManage and administer the Trust bank accounts, credit cards, and cash flow.
oProject Management.
Who we are looking for
oProfessional Accounting qualification ACCA, CIMA, ACA, ICAEW or Part Qualified (Final year) or equivalent degree OR In-depth QBE with at least 5 years’ experience in a similar senior finance role within the charity sector.
oExperience of people management within the finance functions.
oKnowledge of payroll practice and a full understanding of HMRC requirements.
oExperience of preparing statutory accounts and working papers and proven success working with auditors and managing the audit process.
oAble to demonstrate a proven track record in all aspects of accounts e.g preparation management accounts, budgets, balance sheet reconciliation and forecasts.
oExperience of Treasury management including cashflow forecasting & monitoring.
oExperience of preparing VAT returns.
oAdvanced User of different accounting packages.
oConfident User of MS Office 365, in particular Excel (intermediate/advanced level), Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
oExperience of managing finance projects (e.g. new systems)
oKnowledge & understanding of internal controls & accounting processes.
oPrevious experience in an accounting role in the Charity or Housing or Care Sectors would be advantageous but is not essential.
oUnderstanding of the Charity SORP.

Legal services are central to BEO. We are therefore looking for someone of 4yrs PQE who has experience in social welfare, human rights, public and administration law and who seeks an opportunity to use those skills specifically in the area of challenging systemic racism.
In the last year we have been developing our relationships with partner organisations, ranging from community groups, our stakeholder law firms, NGOs and law firms experienced in equality and discrimination law, to deliver legal services.
