At Replacing Animal Research, we’ve been working for over half a century to replace the use of animals in research. We have significantly contributed to the development, and uptake, of non-animal methods by:
- Empowering scientists with our educational opportunities.
- Funding exciting research aimed at replacing animals and improving human healthcare.
- Collaborating with policymakers to ensure more rigorous policy on the use of animals in science.
Our mission is to ensure scientists use non-animal approaches in biomedical research and testing. It’s a better future for animals and humans. For us to achieve this, we need to ensure that Replacing Animal Research is a resilient organisation with sufficient skills, support, and income to continue its work in the long term. Our trustees are critical to the future of the organisation.
We are currently seeking more trustees to strengthen our board by providing strategic and governance support. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with an interest or experience in scientific and medical research and testing and the development of non-animal methods. We’d also be interested in hearing from anyone passionate about eliminating animal use in research. A commitment to our purpose and aims and the strategic vision to support the Replacing Animal Research's future development.
- A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to support the charity. (Please see below for more details on the time commitment).
- An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
- Sound, independent judgement and the ability to challenge constructively.
- The ability to work effectively as a member of a team and make decisions for the good of the charity.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A full induction is provided for new trustees as well as ongoing CPD opportunities and support. The role of trustee requires an annual time commitment of around 8 working days which works out around 5 hours per month. This includes:
- Preparation for and attendance at 6 general board meetings, which are held remotely.
- Preparation for and attendance at sub-committee meetings as appropriate.
- Between meetings, trustees may be asked to contribute to discussions via email or ad hoc telephone conferences on specific issues.
- Trustees may be asked to sit on or contribute to other project groups or activities from time to time.
- Attendance at 1 or 2 in-person board away days.

2.The Role of the Board
At its most fundamental the role of the trustee board is to receive assets from donors, safeguard them and apply them to the charitable purposes of Oxfordshire Youth. The trustee board must always act in the best interests of Oxfordshire Youth, exercising the same standard of duty of care that a prudent person would apply if looking after the affairs of someone for whom they have responsibility. Trustees are ultimately and legally responsible for everything Oxfordshire Youth does. Trustees fulfil this responsibility by deciding the strategy, establishing organisational policies and implementing appropriate monitoring, reporting and control mechanisms to ensure and evidence compliance. Trustees appoint the CEO and, on recommendation by the CEO, appoint the Senior Leadership Team to manage all operational matters and the operational team in line with the approved strategy, policies and control mechanisms.
3.Duties of a Trustee
The statutory duties of a trustee are
● Ensure that Oxfordshire Youth complies with its Articles of Association, charity law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations
● Ensure that Oxfordshire Youth pursues its objects as defined in its Articles of Association
● Ensure Oxfordshire Youth applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects. For example, it must not spend money on activities which are not included in the objects, however worthwhile they may be
● Contribute actively to the board of trustees by giving firm strategic direction to Oxfordshire Youth, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
● Safeguard the good name and values of Oxfordshire Youth
● Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organization
● Ensure the financial stability of Oxfordshire Youth
● Protect and manage the property of the organisation and to ensure the proper investment of the organisation’s funds
● Appoint the Chief Executive Officer and monitor performance
In addition to the statutory duties listed above, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve leading discussions, identifying key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives and evaluating or offering advice on other areas in which the trustee has particular expertise. About Us:
Evolve Counselling is a long-established charitable social enterprise, providing low cost, affordable or funded mental health counselling to adults in mainly Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. Our counselling community is made up of 50 – 60 qualified self-employed practitioners, working part-time. We deliver talking therapies to adults – online and in person. Our service delivers around 500 counselling sessions per month to a broad range of individuals, many of whom would not otherwise be able to access counselling support. Evolve also provides supervision, reflective practice, critical incident support, and mental health awareness and related training, to organisations and businesses large and small.
What We’re Looking For:
Our Trustee Board is currently drawn from the counselling and therapies community, plus commercial and other charity backgrounds. Now, with crucial development of the CIO ahead, we are looking for new members to expand the Board to its maximum ten places and to gain skills and insight from an equal, diverse and inclusive group that takes in business skills, knowledge of charities, and experience of not-for-profit finances to make growth plans a reality.

The EDI reference group is a group of people affected by MS who helped develop our EDI strategy and now help support our work towards its delivery. The EDI activity group is a staff group who have responsibility and accountability for the delivery of our EDI strategy.

This role is a home-based role, which will require attending four online monthly meetings, and up to an hour of pre-reading before each one. One of these meetings will be between 12-5pm.

Children Change Colombia (CCC) is seeking a finance and investment trustee based in the UK and/or in Colombia to join our dynamic team that operates in the UK and Colombia.
Children Change Colombia is the UK’s largest charity with more than 30 years experience working exclusively in Colombia. We believe that, with the appropriate support, Colombian children can claim their right to live safely and in peace and demand that the adults responsible for protecting their rights do so – in this way, children can change Colombia. Over the last three decades, CCC has helped more than 65,000 children to overcome the trauma of poverty, armed conflict, displacement, and the lack of education, and has invested 15 million pounds in more than 50 multiannual projects all across the country.
We seek to complement the work of others and avoid duplication whenever possible. One of our key aims is to work on issues that are neglected by others and bring innovation where opportunities are short. For instance, we work in schools in remote villages near the Pacific coast where state institutions are weak and few NGOs operate. The finance and investment trustee will be part of the Board of Trustees and support the Fundraising efforts, contribute to the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, with a particular focus on the effective stewardship of new strategies for funding such an endowment. This includes ensuring new sources of charitable income are managed in accordance with legal and ethical standards, aligned with the charity’s long-term mission, and capable of delivering sustainable income for future generations.

Their main duties and responsibilities include:

Overview of the role
Uttlesford Foodbank are seeking someone with financial experience to join the board as a trustee, who will be able to lead on financial matters, ensuring we meet our financial obligations and help us build a sound financial strategy as we move forward. This role involves leading on the financial affairs of the food bank and ensuring that they are conducted within the required legal, accounting, and good practice frameworks.
Responsibilities
As a trustee you will share collective responsibility for the governance of the food bank and all decisions made by the board, ensuring the organisation is well run, fulfils its mission, is compliant with charity law and that the charity is open and accountable. It is also the responsibility of the treasurer to work in partnership with the chairperson and other trustees to ensure the financial viability and development of the organisation.

We were established in 2001 and have almost 25 years’ experience in organising cultural, social, learning and wellbeing opportunities with people who face a range of barriers, including those relating to older adulthood.
Our main current programme is based on the Cultural & Social Outings project. We provide regular trips and activities throughout the year across different environments, indoors and out. They are developed in response to ongoing feedback from participants and take into account the specific needs, interests and contributions of those who attend. Some people are active in discussions and planning, while others are happy to just look forward to a day out. Either way, the programme has significant impact on health and wellbeing, with links to social prescribing and accessing nature.
With many of our members living in the inner-city, we feel it is important to enable people to have access to a wide range of experiences, especially beyond urban areas. Trips to the Yorkshire Dales or North York Moors, for example, form an important aspect of our programme, as do visits to places of architectural and/or heritage significance, whether on our doorstep or further afield. This enables people to explore and engage with culture in the widest sense, learn about wildlife and ecology, or social history, as well as simply enjoying the views and fresh air. Many of our visits enable and encourage people to be active participants rather than mere observers. They may include a talk, tour, or practical workshop, encouraging the development of new skills and interests, and knowledge sharing.
Trustee Recruitment
LLA is currently a constituted community organisation with a small management committee of three members. We have one part-time member of staff who is our Project Developer and Co-ordinator. We have an annual turnover of approximately £30,000 with ongoing plans to both maintain and grow our services.
In order to provide greater security, and open up access to further funding, we are in the process of registering as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). This means that we need to recruit a board of trustees, initially 4-6 people, who will be responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity and for its financial health. We also need to change our name because we now work with people from across the city of Leeds, and no longer base our activities in Little London, where we were founded.
The board is likely to meet once a quarter for 1-2 hours for a formal trustees meeting where we will review our financial and operational performance and discuss any matters of importance. Meetings will be a mixture of face-to-face, and online. We also encourage trustees to support our work between meetings perhaps by joining one or more of the activities, being an ambassador for a particular area of our work such as marketing or finance for instance or using your skills and experience in some other way.

Founded in 1997, the Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants provides a place for refugees, migrants, and people seeking asylum to rebuild their life with support and community. From classes to casework to financial assistance, the Centre has a wide offering available for our community of over 200 people. Our approach is compassionate and human and the support we offer is long term - on average people stay with us around four years.
