The Special Events Officer is an exciting role at MDUK, that will sit within the Development department under the High Value Engagement team. The High Value Engagement team is part of a successful Fundraising team that includes a Community and Challenge Events team, Trusts team, Individual Giving team, and Supporter Services Team.
You’ll work closely with the Special Events Manager to provide key support so the team achieves agreed fundraising targets and objectives through the delivery of a series of high-quality events and major donor fundraising:.
Lead on key elements of Special Event tasks including sourcing prizes, marketing, liaising with suppliers and thanking supporters.
• Lead on the end-to-end delivery of two annual Special Events in the portfolio including the Clay Pigeon Shoot
• To manage guest lists and guest liaison for all Special Events including recording contact details and dietary requirements. Key areas of responsibility: Special Events
• To lead on all aspects of the planning and implementation of two key special events, including chairing committee meetings and working with them to cultivate attendance sourcing sponsorship, liaising with the venue, organising logistics, managing the expenditure budget & achieving income targets, and all other aspects of event delivery and marketing.
• Work directly with the Digital Marketing Manager to design and administer a new system for thanking event participants to promote long-term support and streamlined stewardship journey
• Provide support to all Special Event committee meetings through attendance and ensuring timely actions are followed up.

Job description
Job Purpose
To manage and develop the home from hospital settle service in the hospitals that you are responsible for, to support timely and successful patient discharges from hospital and prevent re-admissions. You will work in collaboration with hospital teams and community teams to lead and manage your team to support the smooth transition from hospital to home for service users. The service works with people for time limited support (usually up to 6 weeks) to adjust and settle back in their homes, and to prevent readmission into hospital.
Key Tasks
- Work in partnership with the hospitals and other health and social care professionals to coordinate safe and timely discharges for referred clients. This involves attending meetings with hospital personnel including Discharge Co-ordinators and Ward Managers to discuss discharges and plan who and how individuals will be supported as appropriate.
- Manage a team working across two hospitals and ensuring the service is available between the contracted hours.
- Work collaboratively with other agencies providing support services.
- Conduct initial assessments of people referred to the services as necessary.
- Plan and develop person centred interventions to provide short term support for people after hospital discharge.
- Work with GPs as appropriate in identifying and supporting patients to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions.
- Work with people with a range of needs, dealing with issues ranging from social isolation and keeping people engaged in their community, to preventing unnecessary admission to hospital.
- Support the hospitals with delayed transfer of care (DTOC).
- Coordinate and monitor the caseload of referrals allocated to team members to ensure a fair and manageable distribution of work.
- Rota planning to ensure staff flexibility and availability, enabling planned rosters that best suit both hospital and patient needs.
- Develop your team which includes; supervision, appraisal, planning of continued professional development opportunities and training needs.
- Conduct regular management audits to ensure a consistent way of working and identify development and training needs in the team or individual.
- Develop and deliver a flexible service that can respond to peaks and troughs in demand.
- Ensure the service is meeting key performance indicators, and identify any concerns e.g. demand for the service exceeding the levels in the contract and taking proactive action to address this.
- Monitor performance of the services against KPIs and produce reports to demonstrate performance.
- Deliver front-line services when needed, e.g. sickness or staff shortages. This is by exception rather than you regularly doing support work.
- Manage the budget, sign-off expenses, and ensure the project is delivered to budget, liaising with the Finance Department as necessary.
- Support the directorate with generating funding e.g. being actively involved in consultation of possible projects, providing activity data, opportunity spotting, and/or supporting the production of tenders.
- Occasionally provide weekend on call cover for the services you manage, and other hospital settle services provided by AUKEL.
Administration
- Lead on contract reporting, this includes quarterly annual and ad hoc reports
- Carry out annual customer service surveys.
- Maintain electronic records of referrals and interventions to assess service impact, support local improvements, and report on KPIs
- Meet and produce reports as required by the Head of Service.
- Ensure patient records are regularly updated through AUKEL database, and support staff to complete their administration via training etc.
- Work with the Communications team and the Head of Service, market and promote the service.
- Build and circulate a resource pack for the wider AUKEL team to generate referrals between services delivered by the charity.
Quality
- Be familiar with and implement AUKEL policies and procedures.
- Ensure the service is delivered in accordance with Care Quality Commission principles.
- Ensure a cycle of continuous improvement by taking a “lessons learnt” review approach.
- Ensure that the requirements of the contract specification for the services are met.
- Ensure integration with other AUKEL projects, and service users are referred/sign-posted to appropriate support services available to them.
- Respond to safeguarding or other concerns and take appropriate reporting and management action.
- Lead on recruitment of staff for your team, and support others at AUKEL.
Liaison
- Represent AUKEL and participate in appropriate external meetings and events and remain aware of local, regional and national issues affecting AUKEL clients.

About the role
The role sits within the Mass Participation Team, an ambitious team that attracts and enables supporters to raise funds for Young Lives vs Cancer through participation in virtual or real-life events and challenges. They deliver through creating a quality and forward-looking events and challenges portfolio and working with partner teams attract motivated participants and provide an outstanding supporter experience that ensures fundraising goals are smashed and long-term relationships are built.
Young Lives vs Cancer recruits around 11,500 virtual fundraisers a year. For many of these supporters this is their first interaction with Young Lives vs Cancer and shows that virtual fundraising can be just the beginning of a relationship with a new supporter.
Virtual fundraising is ever evolving and competitive. We need someone to lead the team who understands the opportunities and challenges presented by this type of fundraising. Someone who will focus on the lifetime value of our supporters and who can motivate a team to be ambitious, brave and confident in this space.
The main purpose of this role is to lead on the virtual fundraising portfolio at Young Lives vs Cancer. This will include developing a multi-year, multi-event strategy for virtual challenges, managing the virtual fundraising team and using insight to adapt and innovate our digital offering.

Deputy Manager (Mental Health) - Recovery House Service
Location: Birmingham, West Midlands
Salary: £28,982 per annum

Recovery House is a new and innovative service we are launching that meets an important need for people experiencing poor mental health. The service will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing vital support to people in need of short-term crisis accommodation, of up to 7 nights. The service is a partnership with the NHS, who will have a staff presence at all times, and builds on the range of strong collaborations we have with the public sector.
We provide individualised, person-centred services that help people lead fulfilling lives and reach their full potential. Known for our high-quality support, we play a key role in Birmingham's mental health system and collaborate with local organisations to challenge the stigma surrounding mental distress.
About the role
Directly managing two Team Leaders, the Deputy Manager will work as part of a team in our regulated services and is an important role in the delivery of recovery based and prevention services within Birmingham. This post is central to the smooth running of the 24/7 Recovery House.
The Recovery House is commissioned by the Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust and is part of their Urgent Care pathway. Working closely with Operations at Birmingham Mind, the role contributes to effective communication between operational staff and management.
You will support the Service Manager in providing continuous and safe delivery of support at the Recovery House and always ensuring high quality person-centred care. You will ensure that compliance and adherence to CQC standards is upheld by the Recovery Support Workers and Team Leaders and provide updates and reports both internally and externally.
You will provide direction, shared management, and support to the delivery team of 13, which includes 24/7 staffing and support; ensuring we deliver on the aims of crisis intervention and prevention.
The role requires a clear vision of how crisis alternatives can be achieved through highly effective services, and the ability to turn that vision into a reality. You will support the work of the NHS clinical team and liaise with them and ensure that the service can be accessed by service users when they need it and that the house is prepared and ready for new residents.
About you
You will need to be skilful in developing strong relationships with a range of people and be able to hold on to a vision for the future rooted firmly in values and the principles of recovery, whilst accepting that different professions have different skills and contributions to be made.
We are looking for someone who is experienced in delivering services in a CQC regulated residential or supported living environment and has previously managed a team with line management. You will have excellent working knowledge of relevant mental health and other legislation and have had dealings with Safeguarding and Health and Safety.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of and a commitment to the “Recovery” model of mental health support and experienced in delivery services within values and framework. You will be able to manage and lead a team of people to perform to their best, with the ability to work closely with the Service Manager to ensure a high quality of service.
This role will involve working on a rota, including some evenings and weekends.

The Role

About the role
You’ll support effective governance and compliance by coordinating key processes, maintaining accurate records, and assisting with regulatory obligations across the charity.
You’ll help embed a culture of accountability and integrity, contributing to strong oversight and enabling the organisation to deliver its mission with confidence.
What’ll you do

Support the Head of Risk and Assurance to ensure the charity remains compliant with all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements, keeping abreast of changes and developments to ensure they are enacted.

Assist in the maintenance of statutory records and ensure timely updates to regulatory bodies (e.g. Charity Commission, Companies House).

Support the development and review of governance and compliance policies and procedures.

Monitor regulatory requirements in areas such as data protection (GDPR), fundraising standards, and safeguarding.

Maintain and update the compliance calendar, tracking deadlines and supporting timely delivery of required actions.
What you’ll bring

Director of Research
The Henry Jackson Society (HJS) is the UK’s boldest think tank and policy-shaping force, constantly ahead of the curve on the big issues of international and domestic importance. We are currently looking for a Director of Research to help lead us permanently on the next stage of our organisational journey, which has already taken us to the status of a household name in the international political and media constellation.
When HJS was founded back in 2005, the global environment was very different to what it has become today. Over that time, the threats to the free world internationally and to free societies domestically have multiplied, but there has been one constant: HJS’s willingness and ability to fight for the principles and alliances which keep societies free – working across borders and party lines to combat extremism, advance democracy and fundamental human rights, and make a stand in an increasingly uncertain world.
Reflecting this, our work is focused into two main streams: “Securing our Societies” and “Advancing the Free World”. “Securing our Societies” focuses on threats to free societies within the West, while “Advancing the Free World” examines how the enemies of the free world are operating internationally. Obviously there is interplay between the two streams as the challenges we face are often not as obliging as to lend themselves to easy classification!
What We Are Looking For
In order to meet our ambitious agenda and to augment our existing capabilities, we need a Director of Research to provide strategic oversight for all HJS research and to act as an integral part of the senior management team. You will also be responsible for your own research programme like any other Research Fellow, in order to produce output in your area of expertise.

Main Duties
- To conceptualise, plan, lead and execute the research programme and special projects;
- To develop existing projects and create new ones in order to boost the written, oral and programmatic output of HJS, and to ensure that there is a steady pipeline of work being published in internet and physical form;
- To structure the department in order to manage research staff, increase their productivity, develop their skills and ensure that they meet agreed deadlines;
- To peer review, proof and edit research output;
- To provide reports on progress, delays and changes to the research programme;
- To identify and develop revenue streams from research content, and to provide an overview of research funding secured and research expenditures through the budgeting and reporting process;
- To help develop a collegial, united and inspiring atmosphere for all staff across the organisation;
- To conceptualise, plan and execute a series of exciting research projects over the course of each year, complete with deliverables, ensuring compliance with good practice in relation to the conduct of research;

Digital marketing and strategy
- Oversee the delivery of the digital strategy.
- Alongside fundraising colleagues, the Social & Paid Advertising Manager, and an external agency, play an active role in the strategic priority project to upscale digital ads and performance marketing to drive income.
- Oversee the social media for organic reach and engagement and developing fresh approaches as algorithms change.
