Public Affairs Officer (Built Environment Futures Assembly)

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to play a key role in the University’s public affairs and stakeholder engagement work, helping to shape the built environment and higher education sector through effective engagement, education and collaboration.

As the Public Affairs Officer, you will assist in planning and coordinating engagement activities and events, to support the delivery of our influencing strategy. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to Built Environment Futures Assembly (BEFA) – a newly established initiative seeking to support future skills in the built environment. You will be integral in engaging with stakeholders and enabling collaboration, making a meaningful contribution to creating a better built environment.

Your accountabilities and responsibilities include:

• Support the delivery of the University’s public affairs and influencing activities, including coordination of the Built Environment Futures Assembly (BEFA)
• Plan and deliver engagement activities and events that showcase our expertise, promote collaboration, and contribute to positive sector change
• Provide related public affairs expertise and advice across the University, participating in cross-organisational events and initiatives to align efforts and share insights

The CASA Project is a specialist service providing advocacy and support to women and their children who have been subjected to domestic and/or sexual violence and abuse, and who have moved on from refuge into accommodation.
The post is currently funded until 31st March 2026 with a possibility of further extension.

We’re looking for a highly organised and self-motivated woman who is passionate about ending violence against women.  You’ll have a ‘can-do’ approach and demonstrable commitment to nia’s feminist approach to prioritising women, upholding and promoting feminist, trauma-informed and anti-racist practice.

nia has been delivering services to women, girls and children who have been subjected to sexual and domestic violence and abuse, including prostitution, since 1975. The organisation has three main aims: to provide services for women, girls and children who have experienced men’s violence; contributing to ending male violence against women and girls, and to inform and influence policy and public awareness.

nia is a professionally approved member of Rape Crisis England and Wales; an umbrella organisation supporting Rape Crisis Centres across the country. Rape Crisis is completely independent of the government and the criminal justice system.

East London Rape Crisis provides free, confidential specialist support for women and girls who have been raped or experienced any other form of sexual violence or abuse at any time in their lives, regardless of whether or not they have reported to the police. We offer confidential and independent support. Services include advocacy, emotional and practical support, one-to-one counselling and group work. The service is provided across Barking & Dagenham, Hackney, Havering, Redbridge, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

We form part of the London Sexual Violence Alliance. The Alliance brings together 225 years of expertise and experience and represents a bold, visionary and survivor-centred resource. The Alliance consists of eight members. Seven are organisations that have historically, and or currently, provide support for victims/survivors. MOPAC is the eighth member, primarily sitting at the oversight and leadership governance level. 

Note: each organisation continues to be an independent charity, so the Alliance is not a legal entity.

About the role

In the role of Counsellor, you will provide one to one counselling and group therapy to survivors of sexual violence. You will work as part of a growing feminist Rape Crisis service that is developing to meet the needs of women and girls. Counselling is delivered face to face, online and via the phone.

We are looking for counsellors who can provide a commitment of 14-17.5 hours a week of counselling services, including one evening per week.

Our Location

 We are based in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, so we are easily accessible by road and rail. In this role, there is plenty of scope for working from home,  although there will be times when you will need to be at face-to-face meetings. About the Senior Trans Independent Victim Advocate role
 
Galop is looking for an experienced practitioner to provide effective support to LGBT victims and survivors of abuse and violence in the UK. You will work within the advocacy team to deliver advice, support, and advocacy to LGBT victims and survivors of interpersonal abuse and violence each year.  You will act as a specialist lead within the advocacy team for work with Trans and Non-Binary survivors, including providing support, advice and expertise to your colleagues and externally. 
 
As a Senior Advocate, you will provide high quality advocacy and support to Trans and Non-Binary people who are subjected to abuse and violence, specifically domestic abuse and sexual violence, focusing on their needs, safety and recovery. This role builds on work that we have been doing for decades to support and empower LGBT people who have been victims of violence and abuse.  Your work will enable LGBT people to feel supported, heard and empowered in the face of abuse and violence, and pave the way to a safer future for our community. 
 
You will work directly with Trans and Non-Binary victims/survivors, offering them a space to talk and think through options, helping them plan what they want to do, and offering assistance in getting what they need from services. Your work will focus on needs specifically related to domestic abuse and sexual violence, including issues such as wellbeing, support with the criminal and civil justice process, safety and access to other services to enable survivors to cope and recover. You will be empathetic and thoughtful in your approach to understanding your clients’ needs, while remaining boundaried and mindful of self-care. 
 
You will manage a small number of specialist advocates providing needs-led support, information and advocacy to Trans and Non-Binary survivors of violence and abuse. You will also act as specialist lead for work with Trans and Non-Binary survivors within the advocacy team, providing support, advice and leadership to advocates on this specialism, to ensure that survivors get support that meets their needs. You will work with colleagues to ensure that survivors are supported in a trauma-sensitive way and that the needs of Trans and Non-Binary survivors are met, through sharing best practice and your expert knowledge and experience in delivering this work. This will include an understanding of the support landscape for Trans and Non-Binary survivors, the wider trans sector and the specific impact and support needs for survivors. You will contribute to the development of the TNBI service and work collaboratively across the organisation. You will need an understanding of legislation, the CJS, civil justice systems and domestic and sexual violence including ISVA/IDVA best practice.
 
You will have an in depth understanding of the spectrum of violence and abuse that Trans people are subjected to, including the causes, impact and barriers to accessing services. You will use your expertise to represent Galop with key stakeholders, advocating for the needs of the community.

- Advocate for beneficiaries with DWP, SSS, Local Authorities, and HMRC, challenging decisions and securing evidence.
- Prepare and represent cases at First-Tier Tribunals, including overpayments and appeals.
- Assess case strengths, potential outcomes, and legal implications, adapting strategies as needed.
- Stay up to date with legislation, case law, and best practices, ensuring accurate advice and representation.
- Escalate cases when necessary, including Upper Tribunal appeals, judicial reviews, and Ombudsman referrals.

The role is homebased with occasional travel required throughout Scotland. This includes travel to home visits and tribunal locations. In addition, travel to team meetings and training, usually in Edinburgh, is required. You may also be required to attend national BDMA Service annual events held across the UK. We do cover travel expenses.

Community Engagement Officer (part-time/2 or 3 days per week – fixed term contract of 12 months) for a small, growing community organisation based in East London.

The Southeast and East Asian Centre CIC (SEEAC) is a non-profit organisation registered as a community interest company that provides community-based support to members of the East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) communities, especially those underrepresented and marginalised migrants and refugees in the UK. Our website. This is a part-time role to lead SEEAC’s engagement with the East and Southeast Asian Communities. The Community Engagement Officer is responsible for reaching out, building and maintaining a solid network with community members, identifying and understanding communities’ needs, liaising and coordinating with other stakeholders who can provide relevant support and assistance, and supporting the development of communication materials for the communities. The post holder will work closely with members of the SEEAC staff team, volunteers and partners in organising and promoting community activities and disseminating information to the community members and relevant stakeholders.

To be considered for this role, you must have 2 or more years of demonstrated professional experience working in a community setting or a non-profit organisation involving social justice issues (as an employee or a volunteer) and strong organisational and administrative skills. We expect you to demonstrate proven ability to organise events and activities. You also need to have a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to safeguarding, data protection and confidentiality, as well as a good understanding of project planning and budgeting. You must be able to communicate fluently in English and, preferably with a command of at least one of ESEA languages. It would be beneficial if you have previously worked as part of a diverse team and have exceptional interpersonal skills, capable of quickly establishing good relationships to respond sensitively and confidentially to all stakeholders. We would also prefer you to have experience of working directly with ESEA communities or other minoritised, racialised or migrant communities and/or have good knowledge of ESEA cultures. Those with lived experience of the issues faced by migrants, refugees and people seeking asylum and/or their family members are encouraged to apply.

You will report to the Programme Manager and collaborate with all members of the staff. At times, you will liaise and collaborate with SEEAC’s stakeholders, such as volunteers and partner organisations, to design and convene activities that effectively support communities’ needs.

Flexible homework is offered in a hybrid setting, with in-person work based at the SEEAC office in East London. To create a better collaboration with other staff members and communities, SEEAC, however, require all staff members to work in the office or on-site occasionally as required. Depending on activities and event planned, the post requires occasional work in the evening and during weekends within contracted hours. Opportunities for skills development training are offered. This is a 12-month fixedterm contract, on a part-time of 3 or 2-days/week part-time (0.6 or 0.4 FTE) basis, for a January 2026 start. SEEAC’s full-time is 5 days per week (35hrs per week). The Special Advisor will support the Executive and Council through horizon scanning, policy analysis, and strategic guidance on relationships with government, NHS England, and other external stakeholders.
