Night Reconnection Assistant

Are you interested in supporting people at immediate risk of rough sleeping and making a real difference to the lives of people who are homeless?   

The St Mungo’s Pan London Rough Sleeping Teams (No Second Night Out and Somewhere Safe to Stay) provide a rapid response service, intervening to ensure no one needs to sleep rough. We are currently looking for people to join our teams as Night Reconnection Assistants (and Night Assessment Workers).

• Work as part of a busy team environment working closely with those affected by rough sleeping. 

• Provide a safe and supportive environment at night to clients; and support a team of Assessment and Reconnection Workers, with key tasks, such as implementing reconnection or assessment plans and supporting clients in to appropriate accommodation.  

• Work on a 7 day weekly night rota pattern with an average of 3 waking night shifts in a row (for example 8pm–8.30am or 9pm–8am with a 1.5 hour break)

About the role

My View Project provides one-to-one psychological therapy, group therapy and Psychoeducational Workshops to unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people presenting with mental distress. The project has adapted a psychosocial perspective using our Therapeutic Care Model to address the identified needs of clients using a holistic approach. The team have supported unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people by providing therapeutic support since 2015.

The purpose of this post is to provide therapeutic intervention to unaccompanied children and young people who have often been through traumatic experiences, including being trafficked, abused and having witnessed horrific events, as a result of upheaval in their country of origin and along their journey to survival.

Therapy at My View is delivered alongside casework support delivered by a caseworker who supports clients with any issues such as age assessment, housing, access to healthcare, benefits, school enrolment etc. 

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Therefore, all convictions, cautions and bind-overs, including those regarded as ‘spent’, must be declared at the application stage.

Hours: Part-time, 21 hours per week.

The ideal candidate will provide support to clients via a range of channels, acting as the ‘first contact’ with the organisation for local people. They will conduct triage interviews with clients face to face, via telephone, video call and webchat to understand their problem better and in greater depth, as well as to determine the next steps for supporting them.

Triage and Referral Officers assess and identify the main issues relating to people’s welfare, debt, and housing enquiries, as well as other legal and practical problems. You will not need to be an ‘expert’ in any one subject, but in the time, a successful candidate will need to ‘know a little about a lot’ and full training will be given to them to develop a good foundation knowledge of each advice area.

The ideal candidate will also need to be patient, calm under pressure and possess great communication skills and able to explain information to people from a variety of backgrounds, including those living in the community who could be considered ‘vulnerable adults.

All our staff work to strict quality standards and ensure that all work is compliant with our contract funders.

Applicants need to be –

• Computer-literate, although training on our case recording systems will be given.
• Confident and have some experience of using telephony and video call systems.
• Confident in working to performance targets.

The post holder will be responsible for  delivering a range of workshops, seminars and accreditations as part of our new cross-border PEACE Academy programme in Belfast and Sligo, funded by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) PEACEPLUS programme https://www.seupb.eu/

The aim of this new three-year programme, is to deliver and evidence a PEACE Academy pathway of engagement, learning, social action and employability that will inspire young people from communities in Northern Ireland and Ireland to create shared experiences and build a long-term response to sectarianism, racism and hate on a cross community and cross border basis. 

We are seeking an experienced training professional who can lead on delivering our training offer for young people across these regions; supporting our youth workers to progress them from grassroots activities delivered in community settings through workshops, training, and accreditation and into onward career initiatives and pathways offered by our partners.

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Planning and administration of a range of workshops, seminars, and accreditations for young people in Sligo and Belfast in line with agreed targets. 

• Working with our regional coordinators on arranging suitable venues, support staff, resources and materials required for each workshop/seminar/course. 

• Delivery and assessment of training courses through Open College Network including internal verification. 

• Maintaining our iPads and online learner portal, ensuring e-workbooks are completed and uploaded and devices are wiped clean after each use.

• Working with our wider project team on the administrative training function ensuring all e-workbooks are submitted in a timely manner, certificates distributed and invoices are sent to our Finance Officer marked clearly for this programme. 

• Working with regional Coordinators on the development of careers events and initiatives alongside a range of partner organisations and employers. 

• Collating and sharing key quantitative output data and qualitative feedback and case studies with our regional Coordinators and Monitoring Officer enabling them to track progress against targets and upload dedicated learner information to our VIEWs monitoring software in a timely and efficient manner.

Person Specification/Key skills: 

• QTS status or min. Level 3 Award in Education & Training 

• Experience of designing workshops and training materials

• Experience of delivery and verification of OCN accredited courses

• Experience of working with employers to create youth progression pathways

• Youth work qualification or relevant experience

• Ability to prioritise and manage workload in a fast-paced environment 

• Competent working independently as well as part of a small team

• A confident communicator with good written and spoken English

• IT skills including Microsoft office (essential), creative media skills including Adobe CC (desirable) 

• Experience in writing reports to meet agreed deadlines

• Experience in monitoring outcome driven projects

• Positive and enthusiastic with a can-do attitude.

Do you enjoy writing about theology and politics? Are you passionate about helping Christians to understand the Bible and what is going on in society? Are you skilled at research, developing resources and creating content? If so, this could be the role for you!

We're currently hiring for the role of Content Writer. This will sit within the expanding Communications Team, and will particularly focus on creating new resources which will inform and inspire Christians to care about and to take action around politics.

This is an exciting time to join the team, and a varied role, with the opportunity to write everything from short video scripts to extended theological papers (and everything in between!). We also intend to embark on new projects, including Bible Studies and Online Courses.

The successful candidate will have strong theological understanding, proven skills in writing, and the ability to encapsulate CARE's tone of 'truth and grace'. The position is full time and based in our London office, although flexible work options will be considered for the right candidate.
