About the Social Change Nest
At the Social Change Nest (SCN), we’re radically transforming the funding landscape and strengthening civil society. We remove the financial and administrative barriers – like bank accounts and legal structures – that often prevent communities, grassroots groups and informal movements from accessing funding and focusing on their core mission. We also work closely with funders, providing Grant Distribution and Fund Management services, enabling them to support social action with confidence and transparency.
We currently support over 600 groups across the UK and abroad addressing issues such as social injustice, climate, housing, wellbeing and animal rights. The Social Change Nest is part of The Social Change Group. We are a Disability Confident Employer, and an accredited Living Wage Employer. In addition, we were listed as one of the top social enterprises in the UK in the SE100 for the last three years.

REF-221804
EMpower is a global philanthropic foundation that partners with organisations across 15 emerging market countries who are focused on solutions that integrate the voices and experiences of marginalised young people, especially girls, aged between 10–24 years. We provide grants and capacity building support to local organisations working to strengthen education and livelihoods of young people across Africa, Asia, Latin America and Turkey.
EMpower’s fundraising proposition is proven and highly differentiated – we invest in local partner organisations for 10 years; a long-term approach that dramatically improved outcomes whilst also demonstrating short term progress. Significantly, we have the unique advantage that our fundraising, administration and management costs are covered by our Board of Directors, which means that every penny donated goes to where it is needed most.
This proposition and our recent investment into fundraising means that our income has nearly doubled in the last 5 years. We have attracted new large-scale corporate donors on top of maintaining our traditional areas of relationship-based fundraising success, including HNWI from the finance sector. Yet we know we are still only scratching the surface of what’s possible.
This new position is a response to the increasing focus on events as a key part of our fundraising and stewardship strategy. Our flagship Annual Dinner is our main fundraiser; last year we smashed our targets and raised over £2m. With this added post in our team we are confident that we can not only replicate but increase that growth. This role will take responsibility for all UK events, and resulting relationships with a small portfolio of major donors.
When thinking about the profile of individuals who would be well suited to this role and who will help bring our events and donor stewardship in the UK to the next level, it is likely you will have consolidated events experience, a talent for building relationships and a proven track record in securing some funds, ideally through relationship-driven fundraising activity.
This is a pivotal role within our fundraising team, with shared responsibility for generating the engagement and income that drives EMpower’s strategy and vision—a future in which young people living at the margins have the opportunities, skills, and confidence to transform their lives and communities

About you
You’ll be a confident trust fundraiser with a proven track record of securing significant grants and managing long-term funder relationships. You're comfortable leading on strategy, identifying new opportunities, and collaborating across teams to produce strong, evidence-led proposals. Excellent writing, budgeting, and project management skills are essential, as is a commitment to Carers UK's mission and values.
About the role
With demand for our services growing, we are seeking a Trusts and Foundations Manager to help power our mission through strategic, long-term funding partnerships. This is a pivotal role in our high-performing Fundraising Team, focused on securing and growing income from charitable trusts, foundations, statutory sources and the National Lottery. You’ll lead on developing high-value, often multi-year proposals, managing a healthy pipeline, and building strong relationships with funders to deliver impactful, sustained funding for our vital work.
This role offers you the opportunity to take real ownership of an essential income stream—crafting compelling bids, shaping funder strategy, and driving forward the development of complex funding applications. You’ll be supported to grow in your role and have the chance to make a real difference in the lives of unpaid carers across the UK.
About us
Carers UK is the leading national charity supporting, advocating for and connecting unpaid carers across the UK. We exist to make life better for unpaid carers, however caring affects them. Despite being a relatively small charity, we regularly punch above our weight and we have achieved meaningful change and we have influenced almost every piece of legislation concerning carers over the past 60 years; from the first ever 1967 legal rights for carers, to the 2024 Carers Leave Act. We have carers experience at the heart of everything that we do. Our support, advice, information and campaigning work are now needed more than ever, as unpaid carers are providing more and more care, adversely impacting on their own health and wellbeing.
This is an exciting time to join Carers UK as we celebrate our 60th anniversary, an important milestone to look back on our achievements and to highlight what more needs to be done to ensure
that carers are treated equally in all aspects of their lives and that no one has to care alone. Our mission is to make life better for carers. Our Vision: We want a society that recognises, values and supports carers and to halve the time it takes for carers to recognise themselves as carers. The last published census in 2021 showed there to be 5.8 million unpaid carers in the UK. However, recent research carried out by Carers UK estimates that the true number of unpaid carers in the UK is as high as 10.6 million, with 12,000 people becoming carers every day.
Diversity and inclusion
Carers UK is committed to becoming a diverse and truly inclusive organisation. We strive to create a workplace where our colleagues and volunteers can truly be themselves and feel like they belong and constantly seek to ensure all voices are heard.
To embrace this culture of diversity, our employee and volunteer recruitment should reflect our stakeholders and the society that we serve and support, regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, physical abilities, disabilities or religious practices. We value individual diversity and are actively building diverse teams here at Carers UK and value our colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds.
As a membership charity for carers, we particularly seek employees and volunteers with a real understanding of the issues faced by carers. Reasonable adjustments can be made to the process and role dependent on the needs of the applicant.
Please send in your application as soon as possible. We look forward to receiving your application. Carers UK anonymises all applications prior to shortlisting.
