Main Purpose of the Role:
Royal British Legion Industries Ltd. (RBLI) is both a charity and a company limited by guarantee. The trustees of RBLI are therefore responsible for oversight of the organisation under both charity and company law. They are they legal directors, as determined by company law and the Articles of Association. The day to day running of RBLI is the responsibility of the Chief Executive and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). This role, which reports to the Director of Governance, Compliance & Business Systems, supports the board of trustees and the SLT in all areas of governance.
Overview of the Role & Team:
RBLI is a diverse and complex organisation, with divisions that cover social care, property management, estates management, welfare and employment solutions, manufacturing, and marketing / fundraising. There are also several support functions including people and culture, finance and performance, business systems, and risk and compliance. This role is an essential part of the change process currently ongoing across RBLI.
The team is overseen by the Director of Governance, Compliance and Business Systems. Key working relationships include the board of trustees, the SLT, Assistant Directors, the Strategic Assistant, the wider Governance & Compliance Division, and the support functions.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Governance:
- Oversight of all board and sub-committee meetings, ensuring there is an efficient and effective structure to achieve organisational objectives including the review and maintenance of all terms of reference.
- Compliance with internal KPIs in relation to issue of board and sub-committee papers.
- Oversight of all matters arising and actions.
- Support the induction process for new trustees.
- Support the board and committee effectiveness review.
- Submission of all statutory returns.
- Ensuring compliance with the Companies Act and the Charities Act.
- Oversight of any governance related returns.
- Oversight of key RBLI registers such as Declaration of Interests.
- Oversee submission of documentation during the annual audit process.
Company Secretarial:
- Responsible for planning and managing the annual cycle of meetings for the board and sub-committees, including maintenance of the forward plans and agendas.
- Taking minutes of the boards and sub-committees (shared responsibility).
- Oversee the logistics for the meetings.
- Responsible for planning the AGM.
Legal and Assurance:
- Monitor compliance with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, proving advice to SLT and members of staff as necessary.
- Oversight and communication of all compliance policies such as Conflicts of Interests and Gifts & Hospitality.
- Supporting the Director of Governance, Compliance & Business Systems to deliver the assurance and compliance programmes.
Risk Management:
- Managing the insurance process in terms of:
- Collating information in relation to claims
- Submitting claims information
- Supporting the Finance Team in the annual insurance renewal process

Requirement for the Role:

- Advanced IT skills in areas such as Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom, Outlook

Desirable:

In this role, you will play a vital part in the RCOG’s mission to improve the lives of women and girls around the world, through the delivery of creative communications campaigns and high-impact media stories. Leading our busy press office, you will have opportunities to shape the media agenda on critical women’s health issues and champion the voices of women and girls through creative story-telling. Your social media expertise will ensure we are effectively listening to and engaging our members, partners and the public.
You will enjoy building and managing relationships with stakeholders to deliver opportunities for partnership working – including national health organisations, other Royal Colleges and women’s health charities. Reporting to the Director of Communications, you will line manage our Senior Media and Communications Officer and work closely with colleagues in our policy, public affairs and marketing teams to help ensure the College’s external affairs work is integrated, coherent and impactful.
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of our annual media and communications plan, including priority campaigns in partnership with marketing, policy and public affairs colleagues
- Oversee our busy press office, ensuring we maintain strong media relations and are achieving high impact coverage on College priorities
- Deliver proactive external communications to promote awareness and impact of RCOG programmes, projects and products
- Ensure we are effectively using our social media and digital channels to listen, engage and influence, including production of videos, podcasts and webinars, etc.
- Build strong relationships with partners and stakeholders to gather intelligence and identify partnership opportunities
- Lead on ensuring the RCOG maintains effective communications and media processes, including forward planning tools, media logs, activity summaries, and evaluation reports.

Contract

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Planning and Organisational Leadership
• Lead the development and implementation of Girls Not Brides’ people and culture strategies to deliver on the vision, mission and goals set out in the Secretariat and Partnership strategies, 2022-2025.

Staff Well-Being
• Lead on the development and implementation of a staff well-being policy and oversee the effective use of processes for day-to-day provision across the organisation.

• To provide leadership, direction and co-ordination for the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and staff support services, including occupational health.
Organisational Culture
• Oversee the review and implementation of organisational core values that guide the organisation’s policies and procedures.
• Oversee the implementation of policies and programmes that ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the organisations.
• Oversee development and dissemination of HR policies and procedures that maintain and improve employee relations and shape organisational culture.

Professional Development and performance
• Assess organisational needs with the SLT to identify professional learning and growth opportunities to support employees’ ongoing professional development.

• Develop and ensure the administration of a consistent, equitable, and progressive compensation program including salary surveys and market research to ensure Girls Not Brides is competitive within our market and in line with our budget.

About the role
This is an incredibly exciting and unique opportunity to own and develop the campaign communications strategy. Informed by collaboration with a creative agency, you'll take the lead on in-house team engagement, including coordinating leadership and executive sub-groups. In this brand new role, you'll take charge of the campaign identity and narrative, ensuring it evolves and is successfully implemented. It will require sensitive and nuanced consultation and negotiation with senior leadership and senior supporters to secure buy-in and ownership.
About you
You're a senior communications professional with longstanding experience of fundraising and reputation-raising campaigns.
You get under the skin of a campaign when it comes to brand, marketing collateral and complex stakeholder relations.
You've got exceptional presentation and influencing skills and are adept at gaining the consensus needed to drive projects forward in large, complex organisations.
Ideally, you'll already have experience of fundraising and working on engagement campaigns with donors and philanthropists, or at least be able to demonstrate relevant transferable skills around income generation and behaviour-change campaigns with compelling success stories.

Specific responsibilities
An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:
- Work effectively with others to develop funding proposals for CSE projects.
- Lead the response to competitive Invitations to Tender, which require a specific and timely response to a client’s brief and the ability to highlight and sell relevant CSE strengths and expertise.
- Support our development process by giving direction, supervision, and support to all contributing staff.
- Work with delivery teams and colleagues to set project budgets, costing work accurately using CSE’s development and financial tools.

Camphill is a worldwide movement with over 100 independent charities (often referred to as 'communities') supporting individuals with additional support needs to lead meaningful lives and to reach their fullest potential. The organisation began here, in Scotland, in 1939 through a group of Austrian refugees. They sought societal change in the way disadvantaged and vulnerable people were treated and cared for.
There are 11 Camphill charities in Scotland, from Aberdeen to Dumfries and Galloway, supporting over 500 people from early childhood through to older age. In Aberdeen, Camphill Estates owns the land occupied by 6 of them. They are independent charities but work together under the Camphill Estates umbrella for the common good.
Historically, Camphill Estates had one Fundraising Manager to generate voluntary raised funds and to support all of the communities to fundraise for themselves. This all changed three years ago when this new post was created, representing a sea change in the organisation’s thinking.
It followed a master plan which was drawn up with the help of consultants who reviewed the needs of the estate. This process produced a lengthy list of capital build projects for 5 of the 6 charities that are necessary to improve the buildings and the opportunities for the service users. The cost of delivering those projects was an estimated £15million with the focus on improvements to Camphill School and the residential units.
A highly experience fundraiser was appointed to create and lead the capital campaign to raise the required £15m funding, within a ten-year period. Three years on, the campaign has met with great success - £4.5m has been raised already. They also built a very strong and focussed fundraising team of five, raised the profile of the campaign in the local area and built strong working relationships with all the five partner charities.
Sadly, the current capital appeal fundraiser is moving on from Camphill Estates to live overseas, and Camphill Estates are looking for a new senior fundraiser to lead the appeal and carry on the good work. In the three years since the appeal was launched, further capital requirements have emerged, and a new charity (Murtle Market) has been created. The appeal total has therefore been reset at £15m and again, ten years has been set as the timescale.
The Board has set aside a healthy budget which allows the Director of Fundraising to build a team to deliver success. It will be up to the Director to devise a strategy and manage the team of five fundraisers to reach the new income goal.
Crucially, Board do not see this appeal as an end in itself. Such a varied and evolving group of charities will always have a capital fundraising requirement and are therefore happy to offer this role as a permanent position, not linked to the current appeal target or length.
