About Chapter One
Chapter One is a small but growing charity, working to ensure that every child has 1:1 reading support at the time they need it most.
Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme currently supports about 3,500 children a year. It pairs disadvantaged, struggling five to eight-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who come from over 180 local and national businesses. The volunteer task is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.
We have set ourselves ambitious targets and want to support 3,900 children by 2026/27, so this role, with responsibility for building new corporate partnerships, will be crucial to ensuring that we have sufficient volunteers to achieve this target. 2026 has been designated by the Government as the National Year of Reading, so we have a great opportunity to capitalise on this and secure business commitment for our work!

About the role
Chapter One is seeking a proactive, energetic and enthusiastic Business Development Officer to be an integral part of a team which aims to both maximise corporate income and take Chapter One into new regions across the UK.

The role:
The Policy and Public Affairs Lead for Devolved Nations will drive CoSRH’s engagement and policy work in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. a. Stakeholder engagement:

About the Senior Communications Lead

The Head of External Relations leads strategic engagement and influencing activities to ensure hunger and hardship remain a priority for key external audiences, to build the breadth and depth of support needed to help end the need for food banks. This role engages and influences target stakeholders in government, business, civil society and faith communities to prioritise hunger and hardship in their decisions and actions.
This role is part of Trussell’s Prioritising Hunger and Hardship programme, the goal of which is to keep hunger and hardship at the forefront of conversations and decision making – both amongst the public and key individuals and organisations relevant to our cause. Your main duties will include:

Role Responsibilities
- Manage and/or advise on employee relations work with a resolution-focused approach to disputes, disciplinaries, grievances, absence, change management processes.
- Responsible for overseeing our current HRIS system, ensuring it is used effectively, information is up to date and compliant, and more widely ensuring all HR data is sufficiently protected and compliant with GDPR in all systems and processes
- Manage the day-to-day relationship with a range of our People-related suppliers
- Produce and use People data to analyse trends and help make decisions. To include producing dashboards for managers, leadership where required.
- Oversee the planning and delivery of key activities in the HR calendar such as Employee Engagement surveys, the organisation appraisal process, and associated Internal Communications within the organisation
- Develop and evaluate the confidence and capability of managers and staff in our People practices, and systems
- Develop, update and communicate our People policies and procedures, in line with organisational strategy, best practice and employment legislation.
- Ensure our People practices have safety, diversity, equity and inclusion at their core and play a key role in championing the delivery of our ED&I roadmap.
- Provide first line advice on our Total Reward offer to managers and staff and liaise with benefits suppliers to help us continually evolve our Employee Value Proposition.
- Support managers in inclusive recruitment processes, ensuring compliance, best practice and use of appropriate metrics to continually inform our recruitment strategy.
