At Ambitious about Autism, we’re currently looking for a Research Manager to join our External Affairs team.

You’ll conduct and commission research projects, publish and disseminate research findings to ensure we are maximising our reach and impact, and ensure that we are using relevant and up-to-date evidence throughout our work.

You’ll identify key research needs and questions to continually improve our activities and impact for autistic children and young people, drafting briefs and managing independent researchers to deliver projects on time and to budget.

You’ll use both quantitative and qualitative research methods to develop and support co-produced research with autistic children and young people, as well as parents and carers, whilst ensuring that new evidence is embedded into our resources, working collaboratively with the policy, communications, fundraising and service delivery teams to ensure that we maximise the impact of our findings.

The successful candidate will be joining the organisation at an exciting time and this role will play a central role in providing an evidence base for us to influencing Government, as well as enable us to engage media and public attention to our calls for change. It will also look for ways to unlock insight and learning, so we can influence the practice of the wider education sector.

Purpose of the job

To be responsible for the successful delivery of ELBA’s Dragon Award Nominated Evolve Project, delivering exciting, innovative employer-supported volunteering projects that meet the expectations of specific corporate supporters, and the needs of the community with a key geographical focus in Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Haringey.

About Evolve

The Evolve Project is a collaborative partnership between Linklaters, UBS, Societe Generale and the Societe Generale UK Foundation, delivered by ELBA. Overall, the Evolve project aims to address the wider barriers and challenges faced in society & by community organisations & charities with a particular focus on Hackney and its surrounding boroughs of Tower Hamlets & Haringey. The project does this through supporting community organisations who are addressing different barriers like post Covid recovery, and the cost-of-living crisis, alongside continuing challenges of funding & sustainability.

Evolve aims to build the capacity of thee organisations, especially supporting the leadership, so they can keep up with the increased demand they are experiencing. Evolve has been designed to dynamically respond to the changing needs of local community organisations, drawing on the time, skills and expertise of employee volunteers to address the most pressing community challenges. The project is currently in its fourth year with funding secured for the following two years.

The role requires an ability to build a close and collaborative relationship across the community sector, particularly in Hackney, as well as with the corporate funders. A key focus is developing and delivering a range of exciting employee volunteering activities (including the Leaders in Partnership and Emerging Leaders coaching programmes) as well as leading monthly delivery and quarterly steering group meetings with the three business partners to ensure volunteer engagement and session development is meeting the aims and objectives of the project.

The post will be managed by the Head of Programme, Connect which sits within the Community Works programme at ELBA. The post holder will have weekly one-to-one meetings for input and guidance to achieve agreed targets and will be subject to annual performance appraisals.

Job Description

Key Evolve duties

● Responsible for day-to-day development and delivery of the Evolve project

● Collaborate closely with community partners, corporate partners and the ELBA team to understand community needs and design appropriate employee volunteering activities to address these needs

● Deliver a range of employee volunteering opportunities focused on capacity building for local community organisations within the geographical remit

● Build and maintain strong relationships with Evolve partners’ Corporate Responsibility teams by organising regular meetings and responding promptly to company requests

● Develop and promote a range of employee volunteering opportunities to corporate partners and manage delivery of volunteer requests

● Organise delivery of monthly delivery meetings and quarterly project steering group meetings including preparation of supporting documents and minute taking

● Achieve good delivery targets of employee volunteers engaged and beneficiaries supported

● Maintain strong impact reporting for the project and long-term tracking

Main duties

● Build effective working relationships with ELBA corporate partner organisations to understand their business and functions, culture and priorities, generate opportunities suitable for their employees, manage expectations and deliver on activities in support of programme and project goals and objectives

● Identify and build relationships with a range of community stakeholders, including charities, community groups, social enterprises and grassroots organisations

● Assess organisational needs and develop creative corporate volunteering opportunities to meet the needs and build the capacity of community stakeholders

● Source, place, train and manage cohorts of corporate volunteers in line with business plan and project targets

● Identify a range of corporate volunteering opportunities that can facilitate large-scale participation and/or collaboration for ELBA corporate partners

● Generate regular communication items such as an annual report, programme impact reports, articles, write awards nominations and case studies and maximise the use of social media platforms

● Work with the Community team to ensure programme materials are kept up to date

● Implement effective evaluation and impact measurement tools in line with ELBA corporate partner requirements, ensuring that evaluation informs best practices to ensure continuous improvement

General

● Adhere to ELBA’s safeguarding policies and procedures at all times

● Develop a broad knowledge of regeneration programmes and local authority priorities in east London and specific geographical area

● Support the wider Community team with the planning and delivery of key events

We support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access top universities, through a unique combination of tuition and in-school mentoring. We work with them to make good applications, get the grades and transition to university. Our volunteers are trained and supported to be effective tutors who work with our students for an hour a week to raise their grades. About the role

This role is available at an important time for The Access Project as we expand our mission, seek to pilot a new programme model, and move into new school contexts. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with the skills for programme improvement, a strong interest in research, and a deep passion for our mission to support students to place and succeed at selective universities.

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who is comfortable working across teams to make change. You’ll be the lead and expert on The Access Project’s in-school university readiness work with responsibility for designing and quality assuring the provision, supporting the learning and development for our school-based staff to effectively deliver the programme content. This position is integral to ensuring The Access Project is delivering a high-quality programme that supports the needs of our students and drives the outcomes of the programme across all regions and schools. The postholder will also be responsible for amplifying The Access Project’s voice in the sector and responding to policy updates; with a focus on bringing their knowledge of the Higher Education sector and the experiences of our students to decisions about the direction of our own programme. They will also support further development of our programme-level Diversity and Inclusion work, to ensure that the programme is tailored where feasible to the needs of all students.

Duties and responsibilities

1) Design & Development

• Act as a senior collaborator to the annual programme design process. Work with the Head of Process Improvement & Programme Quality to incorporate University Access Officer, Programme Leadership, school, and student feedback on how best to drive our short term and long-term outcomes across our programmes.
• Project manage the implementation of changes driven out of programme design. This includes the creation of or changes to delivery resources and training materials, as well as to our university readiness framework and the Salesforce system that supports delivery.
• Work with Programme Managers to understand their delivery challenges, develop solutions and answer questions around university admissions, widening access and The Access Project’s own University Readiness Programme.
• Act as a senior contributor to the development of The Access Project’s programmatic Diversity and Inclusion work, working closely with the University Access Officer D&I Lead. This includes strong engagement with the D&I working group and designing and implementing systems and support to better serve our students with inclusion needs.
   

2) Research and Policy

• remain critically engaged with the widening participation/social mobility sector, and able to synthesise key changes/challenges and ensure that they are applicable/actionable by the organisation.
• Ensure that any relevant widening participation sector developments and trends are fed into The Access Project’s way of working. For example, this might be changes to resources for the programme or working with colleagues to communicate with students (e.g. on plans for A Level Results Day).
• To be an ambassador of The Access Project’s work and impact externally in the widening participation sector, including speaking at conferences, writing articles on our work, and engaging in external relations.
• Holding responsibility for The Access Project’s policy and research workstream, including contributing to the strategic direction of this work and undertaking research to drive the delivery of this workstream to promote The Access Project’s voice in the widening participation sector.
• Liaising closely with the Communications team to ensure that The Access Project’s responses to sector information and updates are timely and relevant to our Mission.
• Provide nuanced insight about the widening participation/Higher Education sector, with a clear take / coherent view on the landscape and how it’s changing, which would then enable us to make informed choices about our programme.

3) Quality Assurance

• Take responsibility for the operational implementation of the university readiness strand of the quality assurance strategy, to drive the quality of the activities The Access Project delivers to young people in schools.
• Participate in The Access Project’s quality assurance processes, including performing drop-ins on University Access Officers’ programme delivery, and coordinating with other members of the team to perform drop-ins in an efficient and effective manner.
• Embed learning from The Access Project’s quality assurance process into our standard practice. This will include delivering training and development sessions for University Access Officers, updates to resources and guidance for what best practice looks like.
• Contribute research on wider pedagogical best practice into our quality assurance work to ensure the highest quality in our delivery of educational programmes.

4) Student Voice

• Maximising student voice within programme design through the organisation and facilitation of student Delivery Review Meetings.
• Lead the development and administration of The Access Project’s annual student survey, considering the needs of key stakeholders across the organisation.

Global Programme Manager (Nepal & Myanmar)

The Programme Manager is an exciting and influential role at RCPCH Global, a specialist unit within the College, in which you will lead the management of our maternal and child health programmes in Nepal and Myanmar, with some support for our work in Rwanda. Based in our London office, you will oversee the implementation of the programmes, including the delivery of high-quality programme activities.

As Programme Manager, you will monitor and manage all financial and budgetary aspects of the programme in compliance with donor requirements and take the lead on all programme reporting to donors, maintaining and ensuring high-quality programme monitoring and evaluation processes are adhered to.

Crucially, you will be responsible for liaising with local programme counterparts and stakeholders in the field, which may include regular field visits. You will also take the lead on the recruitment and management of long-term programme volunteer clinicians, as well as short-term advisory consultants, for the programme.

In addition to wider donor liaison, you will help develop new programme grant agreements with a preliminary focus on UNICEF and the James Percy Foundation, as well as promoting RCPCH Global activities to external stakeholders.

Suitably qualified in international development, public health, international and global health, health systems strengthening and child health, or with equivalent work experience, you should have excellent project/programme management skills and have a background in a relevant international/development management or implementation role. 

With demonstrable experience of designing, initiating and leading complex programme development processes, including with senior government counterparts, local partner organisations and international and multilateral donor agencies, you should have a significant understanding of budget management and financial reporting, including to bilateral and multilateral donors.

Previous experience of successfully managing large complex programmes, including supporting field-programme teams both remotely and in the field, within the international development and/or health sectors is essential, whilst experience of working in developing countries would be desirable.

Although based in London, this role may include some travel to Nepal. Additional travel to Rwanda as part of support role may be required. 

RCPCH Global is a unit within RCPCH which designs and manages a range of international projects and programmes to improve neonatal, child and adolescent health, primarily in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Our programmes use teams of skilled clinicians and other health professionals to work with counterparts in targeted low-income countries to train and mentor doctors, nurses and other health workers, as a means of helping to build the capacity and quality of the health systems in those countries. 

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health sets and maintains standards for the education and training of all doctors working in paediatrics and child health in the UK. We advocate on child health issues at home and internationally. Additionally, through a variety of activities, the College influences the quality of medical practice for children in hospital and in the community.

We are excited to be advertising the role of Psychotherapy Service Manager at Respond, to lead our team and the development of our psychotherapy services with autistic people and people with learning disabilities who have experienced trauma and their families.  Many of our clients may have experienced complex or multiple traumatic experiences including sexual violence, domestic abuse and neglect.

The Psychotherapy Service provides predominantly longer-term therapeutic support of a year or more, depending on how the work is funded, to an average of 130 unique individuals per year.  The current team of 10 are made up of 4 senior therapists (reporting to the postholder), 4 therapists and 2 honoraries in training, the majority of whom are Arts therapists and work within a psychodynamic and/or systemic model.

We welcome applications from experienced Psychodynamic Counsellor/Psychotherapists, Arts therapists, Psychologists or Family Therapists who are passionate about our work. You will work psychodynamically, champion our trauma informed approach including our reflective practice model and have the opportunity to influence and shape the development of the psychotherapy service.  Leading the small team, you will provide clinical leadership and be Safeguarding lead, ensuring we continue to provide high quality psychotherapy services.  We are offering the role at 4-5 days per week, working in a hybrid manner flexibly. You can also hold your own small case load of clients, supervisees and/or consultancy work within the role.

This is a unique and specialist role and we recognise that you may have more experience in one clinical area or client group than another, given the breadth of our work and whilst you may be experienced in working psychodynamically as a therapist and as a line manager, you may be newer to leading a service for example. Or you may have a great deal of other experience and understanding of the needs of our clients from other work.  We are flexible to develop the right candidate who is passionate about improving the lives of autistic people, people with learning disabilities and their family members.

 About the Role

The Africa Death Penalty Team Project Manager is responsible for coordinating Reprieve’s litigation and advocacy in Sub-Saharan Africa. At the moment, the team works on death penalty casework and abolition advocacy in Malawi, Tanzania, and Kenya. Our casework includes work on individual cases on behalf of people facing a death sentence; large-scale projects, such as the Kenya resentencing project, wherein we support stakeholders to ensure 5,000+ people are able to access a chance at reducing their sentence from death via a new sentence hearing; and  long-term regional projects, such as our strategic litigation before the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, which challenges the mandatory death penalty, torture, and other associated violations of the African Charter.

 There is a trend toward the abolition of the death penalty in Africa. In recent years, countries across the continent have taken the decision to limit the application of the death penalty or to abolish it altogether. This has been seen as a turning away from old laws and systems that were imposed by former colonial governments, which obstructed alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, and were designed to remove discretion from the local judiciary. African lawyers and judges are now at the forefront of a wave of progressive jurisprudence on issues related to the death penalty including methods of executions, torture, sentencing practice, conditions of confinement, and intersections of gender, disability, and socioeconomic status with criminal justice. This jurisprudence has become a model for the international movement to limit the death penalty, and is being held up as best practice in jurisdictions around the world.

Contract and location

This is a full-time, permanent role based in Reprieve’s London office. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model with staff working part of the week from home and part of the week from the office. Applicants must have the current right to work in the UK, which will be checked prior to interview.

Your presence is important during core office hours, whether remotely or in the office. You will also be available outside of office hours in the event of an emergency, for example case developments that require urgent action. This is a role that may require travel. 

The annual salary is £50,571 full-time per annum, less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance.

Katherine Low Settlement is a charity that has been serving Battersea and the wider Wandsworth community since 1924. We are dedicated to building stronger communities and enable people to challenge and find ways out of poverty and isolation.

We run a range of our own community projects to tackle poverty and isolation, and empower and support children, young people and their families, older people, women and refugee communities. We campaign for social change. We also incubate and support local charities and social businesses to thrive, so together we can meet the diverse needs of the local communities of Wandsworth. Each week we work with 28+ charities supporting more than 1,000 people.

Katherine Low Settlement’s work with older people

Katherine Low Settlement has worked with older people since its conception in 1924.They are a core part of the community that we continue to work with. We provide, often in partnership, a range of projects and activities for older people including health and wellbeing; creative arts; intergenerational work; connecting people and trips/outings. Our services include an Older People's Lunch Club, Contact Club, T’ai Chi for Elders, exercise and social sessions, and support online.

We work with older people to:

• Encourage active and independent living

• Reduce isolation and loneliness

• Improve well-being and prevent ill-health

• Enable older residents to be dynamic and contributing members of the Wandsworth community.

Key Objectives for the Elders Core Service Manager Role:

1. Team Leadership: Lead a team of dedicated part-time paid staff and volunteers, including a cook, support worker, minibus driver, and sessional workers.
2. Day-to-Day Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of the Elders Core Service, including the lunch club, transport, social sessions, and overseeing the one-to-one work of the core team.
3. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the wider team to provide a hands-on program that builds on older people's strengths and potential.
4. Monitoring and Evaluation: Support the monitoring and evaluation of the project in collaboration with the Head of Programme.
5. Budget Management: Ensure the program operates within budget constraints.
6. Member Engagement: Support the planning of the core program with input from elder members and the wider team.
7. Recruitment and Support: Recruit and support new and existing members (service users).

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Delivery

• Planning and Oversight: Ensure that all service output aligns with KLS' vision, mission, values, and charitable objectives. Organize and promote one-off activities throughout the year.
• Transport Management: Manage the transport offer, including route planning and pick-up schedules.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate activity records, registers, and casework notes for the core team.
• Outreach and Support: Conduct outreach work with older people in the community, oversee home visits, and manage a small caseload.

2. Staff and Volunteer Management

• Recruitment and Line Management: Recruit and manage the Outreach and Support Workers, Lunch Club Cook, and relevant social activities workers and volunteers.
• Performance Management: Use performance management and quality systems to monitor and evaluate the project's work and processes.

3. Relationships, Communication, and Networks

• Member Engagement: Build and sustain strong relationships with elder members.
• Communication: Oversee communication for the Core Programme, including newsletters, activities calendar, annual reports, and social media platforms.
• Meetings: Attend meetings on behalf of the Core Programme as required.

4. Finance

• Budget Management: Manage project areas to budget and maintain financial records as agreed with the Head of Programme.

5. Other Duties

• Professional Development: Participate in regular management supervision and annual appraisal. Identify job-related development and training needs.
• Professional Conduct: Professionally undertake roles, maintaining a high-quality standard of work in line with KLS's aims, values, and ethos.
