Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) is a UK-registered charity (1081455) offering funding (Awards), training and media profile to inspiring leaders of wildlife conservation projects across the Global South. We support pragmatic, sustainable, and long-lasting work rooted in science and community involvement. The charity funds projects directly and we remain in regular contact with Award winners (grantees). WFN also raises awareness of the serious problems facing wildlife, landscapes, climate, and people, through promoting the work of winners. We focus support on nationals (leaders who were either born in the country where they work or have gained nationality) and aim to help build the capacity of successful local NGOs and grassroots work. We fund mainly in Africa, Asia, and Latin America where income is often hardest to access and can have the biggest impact for people and biodiversity. Our funding is raised each year, mainly from family foundations and trusts, as well as from individuals, corporates, and international NGOs, with a current annual income of £2.6m/year. WFN is governed by a committed trustee board. Our team is dynamic, passionate about our mission and ambitious. The opportunity

Established in 1993, we have channelled £23 million to 220 conservation leaders in 80 countries across the Global South, benefitting wildlife, landscapes, and people. We are now seeking to expand the team in line with our activities by recruiting a Communications Assistant to maintain and grow the organisation’s online communications across digital and social media platforms and support the team with office administration and event organisation. The post-holder should be keen to make a difference by working in a small team across an impactful organisation. They should have demonstratable skills in online communications and audience engagement, knowledge of wildlife conservation issues, experience with event organisation and the ability to support a vibrant team to flourish. The Communications Assistant will report to The Head of Communications with matrix management to the Operations Manager, dividing their time by working on communications 3 days p/w and office administration and charity events 2 days p/w. About the role:
The Philanthropy & Events Executive will support our Philanthropy Lead and Managing Director to effectively manage existing match funding partner (“Champion”) relationships, and help to develop new Champion relationships. You will support with Champion onboarding, stewarding and reporting as well as research, prospecting, and business development activities. At the helm of our operation is Reprezent Radio, a dynamic youth-led community radio station based in South London. Since 2010 the station’s hallmark has been empowering young voices and championing the narratives of diverse and underrepresented communities, and as a result many of our beneficiaries are those deemed ‘hardest-to-reach’ (young black South Londoners, early school leavers, second generation immigrants).
Our unique training model combines in-person training courses with work experience placements at the station, resulting in a cohesive programme of entry-to-advanced level training provision and an active waiting list of over two thousand people.

This role is a hybrid position, working both from home and with regular attendance required at our office/training space in Peckham and our station headquarters in Brixton.

About the Team:
The Global Policy team plays a leadership role across the WaterAid Federation in setting WaterAid's policy change agenda to achieve sustainable and equitable access to water, sanitation, and hygiene globally. The role of the Global Policy and Research Director is pivotal to ensure the credibility and robustness of policy positions throughout WaterAid.
The Director and the teamwork with other relevant colleagues across WaterAid - both in other members as well as in Country Programmes - supporting the design of policy agendas relevant to those contexts. The role will play a major part in realising WaterAid's ambition to achieve national change through its research, policy work and global priority advocacy and campaigns.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will play a major role in: 1) ensuring that WaterAid's policy positions have relevance for and are rooted in Country Programme experience, robust research evidence and the wider international development agenda; 2) supporting the development of policy capacity within WaterAid's Country Programmes; and 3) contributing to global advocacy and campaigning strategies.
The position ensures quality controls are in place and is responsible for the control and mitigation of policy related risks to WaterAid's reputation. The Global Policy and Research Director plays a significant role in representing WaterAid, its work and public policy positions to high-profile, informed and critical external audiences.

Vision and direction
- Articulate a clear and compelling vision for WaterAid's policy change agenda, that is based on robust evidence and analysis, practical and programmatic experience, a good understanding of the political economy of WASH at national level and the wider global agenda on the Sustainable Development Goals.
- Work collaboratively with others to achieve these changes and help deliver an increase in the scale and impact of WaterAid's influence to accelerate progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 6;
Policy agenda setting and development
- Provide robust analysis for identification of the key bottlenecks to achieving universal access for WASH and provide support to strengthen the case for prioritisation of the WASH sector with key policy and advocacy targets.
- Lead and manage a team of policy experts working on the key areas of sector governance; development finance; water; sanitation; health and hygiene.
- In collaboration with regional and country colleagues and the policy team support the development of robust national visions for how to achieve universal WASH, underpinned by analysis of key bottlenecks that is holding back progress for universal access to WASH.
Research
- With the Global Programmes and Advocacy Executive, the policy team, the Programme Support Unit and country colleagues identify a set of policy research priorities for WaterAid, identifying the major knowledge gaps that underpin the lack of progress in the WASH sector and develop the research proposals to fill these gaps.
- Collaborate with PSU research and learning staff to coordinate and align with programme / technical level research and learning initiatives.
Advocacy strategy development and implementation
- In partnership with the Campaigns Director and International Affairs Director and relevant senior advocacy leaders (especially at the Global Programmes and Advocacy Executive), support the design of global advocacy strategies and campaign plans on priority issues.
- Work collaboratively with others to ensure that our advocacy and campaigns decisions and strategies are based on robust analysis of the political context at play;
- In partnership with Policy and Campaigns Department Senior Management Team, Regional Directors and Country Directors, support the development of national advocacy strategies.
Policy team leadership
- As a member of the Department's Senior Management Team, share responsibility for shaping the department influencing approach, champion a matrix style of working with teams and colleagues around the world.
- Lead the Policy Team by creating a coherent and ambitious vision of WaterAid's policy agenda, develop a culture where diversity is valued, foster collaboration as a way of working and nurture strategic integration with other departments.
Organisational leadership
- Contribute to WaterAid's strategic direction and its positioning in the public policy environment.
- Be an active member of the Global Policy and Programmes Executive.
- Play a leading role in WaterAid's Global Strategy process.
About You:
- Post-graduate [or equivalent] qualification in one of the following areas: water, sanitation, hygiene behaviour change, development economics, social sciences or other relevant areas
- A proven track record in successfully building, leading and managing dispersed teams and fostering high performance through communication, empowerment and feedback.
- Demonstrable and extensive policy experience preferably in the water, sanitation and hygiene sectors.
- Robust analytical and research skills.
- Proven ability to operate strategically, with a track record of winning significant policy change in challenging political contexts and leading others to do the same.
- Demonstrable experience of working effectively at a senior level in global organisations across diverse cultures, multiple networks including governments, international institutions, think tanks, research bodies and key opinion formers.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to synthesise significant amounts of information and prepare compelling and nuanced briefs for a wide range of internal and external audiences.
- Experience of lobbying at ministerial level with the gravitas to be an effective influencer and ambassador for WaterAid.
- Extensive experience in international development covering water, sanitation and hygiene issues (especially the agenda around strengthening the WASH sector), development economics, economic justice and inclusion and equality

New Horizon Youth Centre runs a busy day centre from Monday to Friday, providing basic needs to young people experiencing homelessness and a one-stop-shop for housing advice, youth work activities, counselling, jobs, education and training support. The Services Manager (Day Centre) is a brand new role for the organisation. They will work as part of the existing Youth Work Team to provide vital additional capacity and expertise to respond to the significantly increased demand we have been experiencing. New Horizon Youth Centre has been commissioned by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) as part of an Alliance with Safer London, St Giles Trust and the Anna Freud Centre to deliver on their Children and Young People’s Violence and Exploitation and Reduction support service. The commission will run from June 2024 for three years. As part of this, an additional service will be set up within the NHYC Youth Justice team specifically to deliver on the Alliance contract. This will include a team of Housing Caseworkers who will carry out assessments and advocacy work with young people under 25 who are fleeing violence and exploitation, in order to move them on successfully into both emergency and long-term housing options. Programme Manager role
We are now looking for an enthusiastic and committed Programme Manager(s) to join our existing Programme Team in September 2024 on a full or part-time basis (6-month fixed-term with potential to extend). As a Programme Manager, you will be responsible for managing the Yes Futures programmes in-person, in our partner primary and secondary schools in North London, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire & Buckinghamshire.
Main Responsibilities
You will be one of a small team of Programme Managers, dedicated to delivering excellent programmes which make a positive difference to the lives of students. The main responsibilities of the Programme Manager role are:
Programme delivery
- Responsible for the care and wellbeing of all students in your schools on the programme;
- Communicating with parents where necessary during the programme, by email, letter and telephone;
- Planning and delivering whole-group workshops for students;
- Planning and delivering information and celebration events for students and parents;
- Facilitating the in-person and online volunteer coaching team to deliver student coaching sessions. As well as delivering coaching sessions to students, where required;
- Developing business and charity partnerships for day trips;
- Planning and delivering the day trips included in the programme;
- Supporting the planning and delivery of the Into the Wild residentials;
- Implementing discipline procedures, including reporting serious discipline issues;
- Implementing all necessary Health and Safety and Child Protection procedures, including recording and reporting any incidents;
- Ongoing communication with the school and Yes Futures head office regarding student engagement and progress.
Organisation and administration
- School onboarding, including ensuring that dates are planned, students are recruited and parental agreements are returned;
- Planning and organising the logistical elements of the programme (timetables, activities, sessions plans etc) through liaising with Yes Futures head office, school staff, businesses, charitable organisations and the rest of the Coaching team;
- Creation of Risk Assessments, parent letters and programme-related documents for schools;
- Sourcing materials needed for programme sessions, including lunches for trips;
- Assisting with finance and petty cash where required.
Management of volunteer Yes Futures Coaches
- Managing and developing the skills of your Coaching teams (usually 2-6 adults per school);
- Ongoing communication with your Coaching teams, to foster their enthusiasm and commitment;
- Supporting Coach recruitment for future programmes;
- Supporting the planning and delivery of training for Coaches;
- Maintaining accurate and secure records of Coaches’ personal information, absences, sickness and other relevant information.
Evaluation and reporting
- Facilitating the pre-, mid- and end of programme evaluations;
- Oversight and input of key student monitoring data and impact data;
- Debriefing and ongoing feedback collection from schools and Coaches;
- Ensure all work is carried out in an effective and timely manner to support continued high standards of the Yes Futures programmes.
Programme Managers will also be given the opportunity to support with other Head Office functions, including but not limited to:
- Strengthening our strategy, programme design and theory of change;
- Supporting the marketing of Yes Futures to new schools and customers;
- Developing our fundraising strategy through bid writing and other fundraising tasks;
- Establishing relationships with key partner organisations;
- Planning our future Ambassador offer and other pilot programmes.
