Chapter One is a dynamic, growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in eleven areas/regions of the UK and will support 3250 children in 2024-25.

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs struggling five to seven-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.

From a school perspective, online reading volunteers provide direct, meaningful literacy support for up to 10 pupils per class. The programme is particularly suitable for communities where it might be challenging to find parents and other volunteers who can commit to physically visiting schools to boost reading.

Job Summary

Chapter One is seeking a London Programme Manager who is an excellent communicator and is able both to motivate and support schools and teachers to implement our online reading volunteers programme, and also to ensure that the programme’s impact and benefit to disadvantaged communities is maximised throughout the academic year.

The post is ideal for someone looking for part-time, flexible, term-time only work from a home base and who is able to travel frequently around London. Chapter One currently works in the following London boroughs: Barnet, Camden, Haringey, Islington, Lambeth, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Southwark. The postholder will be joining a team of established Programme Managers (also part-time) who work in different parts of the UK and will need to have some flexibility to work additional hours during busy autumn months, and conversely to work fewer hours during quieter periods of the year.

Key Responsibilities:

• Effectively explain Chapter One’s online reading volunteer programme and its benefits to school leaders and teachers

• Install, setup and maintain Chapter One equipment in participating classrooms

• Fully understand the operation of the Chapter One platform and database and communicate this to others

• Organise and conduct initial teacher training and follow-up

• Ensure a smooth initial launch of Chapter One’s programme in every classroom

• Liaise with colleagues performing technical and volunteer support roles

• Through regular visits to/contact with schools, provide on-going embedded professional learning and support to teachers throughout the year as needed

• Proactively monitor classroom adherence/fidelity to the Chapter One model, including systematic review of data reports and volunteer feedback, taking proactive action to resolve problems that arise

• Analyse and manipulate data (largely in Google sheets) to produce reports and identify trends

• Create monthly data summaries for all participating classrooms

• Lead annual review meetings for senior leadership at participating schools

• Support programme monitoring, evaluation and research as required

• Coordinate in person and virtual school ‘visits’ of volunteer teams to classrooms where necessary

• Liaison with corporate partners as required

• Weekly communication and status updates with Senior Programme Manager(s) and wider team

• As a new school year approaches, secure commitments from returning schools and find and target new schools to join Chapter One’s programme

We are recruiting a Stories Manager to develop and drive our strategy to put the stories of our volunteers, callers and fundraisers at the front of our communications and fundraising work. 

This role is an exciting opportunity for a candidate experienced in working with case studies and storytellers who can efficiently manage a range of different stories sensitively and with confidence. If successful, you will lead the Samaritans case study function, support the organisation with its handling of real life stories and manage the relevant systems and processes.

We know that in sharing personal stories we can help others who are struggling find courage to seek help. We can tackle the stigma surrounding suicide. Storytelling and lived experience cuts right across media and campaigns, fundraising, events, policy and influencing work and support.​

This role will develop and implement a strategy to support the organisation (primarily the media, fundraising and individual giving teams) to champion the voices of those who have used our service, or have experience of suicidal feelings within our press activity, cash appeals, fundraising events and campaigns and policy work. About the role

The Director of Finance and Corporate Resources holds a key role in our organisation and is core to the senior management team. Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director of Finance and Corporate Resources is responsible for finance, HR, facilities, and governance.

Managing a team of four (comprising a Financial Controller, Finance Services and Business Support Manager, HR Manager, and an Administrator) they are responsible for all ‘back office’ operations, providing the supporting infrastructure to ensure quality delivery of our work and mission.

You will work closely with the Chief Executive to lead the organisation through operational change. Investing in the right technological and finance infrastructure for The Young Foundation is overdue, and we are looking for a self-starting candidate with proven experience in digital transformation and change to increase efficiency, knowledge management, and reporting of vital management information. The assessment of business needs and analysis of possible solutions has been undertaken and the successful execution of this transformation is a key deliverable in the first 12 months of the role.

We are a charity earning our income through commissions, grant funding, and by responding to tenders. As such, we need to think and act as a consultancy, supported by our Finance team. We are looking for a hands-on, motivated individual with a solid background in consultancy and charity finance and digital transformation.

​Main purpose of the post 

We are seeking to appoint a Business Development Coordinator to join a wider team that spearheads RUSI’s research fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Director, Research Business Development, the successful candidate will enhance the institute’s business development activities by providing administrative and coordination support for business development, contracts, and risk management. Working closely with research groups, central services teams, and the senior management team, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that RUSI is well-placed to spot and respond to new funding opportunities and that our contracts are high-quality and executed efficiently. 

This is a highly collaborative role that involves building very strong internal relationships at all levels of the organisation and managing competing priorities and deadlines. We are seeking a team player with a pragmatic and positive attitude and excellent attention to detail, who will enjoy taking on new challenges, using your initiative to solve problems, and seeing your work directly contribute to meeting our short- and long-term goals.

​Key tasks 

Tracking, identifying, and sharing new funding opportunities:  

• Conduct research to identify potential funders and grant opportunities, populate and maintain a prospects tracker. Ensure we have an accurate and current map of relevant funders at all times to draw from.

• Manage the Business Development email inbox, ensuring we are registered to all relevant portals and that we are regularly checking funder portals that do not send notifications. Share summaries of relevant opportunities with the BD Director along with suggested dissemination plan, agree next steps and follow up with appropriate Research Groups.

• Support research colleagues to identify funders to invite to RUSI events and draft outreach emails.

Providing administrative and coordination support on bids, contracts, and new business activities: 

• Assist the Bids Manager with compiling information about RUSI as an organisation, its registrations, policies, organisational structure, banking and insurance details, financial information, and other generic details to be included in bid submissions and for due diligence. 

• Support the Bids Manager/Director of Research Business Development with administration and coordination of specific components on large bids.

Maintaining and improving business development processes and systems: 

• Ensure the business development team trackers (action log, new funding opportunities etc.) are accurate and up to date. 

• Work closely with RUSI’s Legal and Contracts and Finance teams to finalise funder contracts and ensure that final copies are saved centrally, and key information is distributed to relevant teams. Ensure that relevant and accurate funder information is tracked by the finance system for ongoing analysis. 

• Review drafts of subcontractor agreements and work closely with RUSI’s Legal and Contracts team to manage the process for preparing, securing approval, finalising, and sharing sub-contracts. 

• Act as central point of contact for the research funding pipeline, ensure it is functioning as needed and respond to ad hoc questions.

• Manage the team’s Sharepoint page, ensuring that it is useful and relevant for research colleagues, with high-quality templates and guidance.

• In coordination with colleagues on the Communications team, update RUSI’s customer relationship management (CRM) system with accurate, relevant and up-to-date funder information and develop and promote best practice for CRM usage for BD.

• Update RUSI funders on the website annually, ensuring that they are accurate and that we have appropriate permissions to acknowledge them publicly.

• Assist in preparing training materials and internal presentations, including by conducting data analysis. 

• Schedule regular catch ups with research groups, take and share notes in appropriate formats, update trackers. 

• Take accurate and useful minutes and share and follow up on action points after Business Development meetings.

• Establish strong working relationships with research teams, central service teams, and senior management.

• Assist with administrative tasks for the business development team as needed, including setting up tech (Zoom/Teams) meetings, coordinating diaries, and booking meetings.

Managing the institutional Risk Management process:  

• Be responsible for ensuring that risk registers are maintained and updated across the Institute to track risk within the organisation.

• Attend all Audit & Risk Committee meetings to update members on changes to the risk register, and take minutes for each meeting. 

• Work with the COO and Business Development team to ensure that RUSI has in place all policies and procedures across the Institute that are required by funders on various projects. 

• Assist the COO in keeping up to date with all Charity Commission guidance on charity operations and compliance.

The Corporate Partnerships Manager for our Fundraising team will focus and lead on:

• Managing your own portfolio of corporate partnerships

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Marketing Manager to join the Fundraising, Marketing & Communications team at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity on a six-month contract. This role will support the Head of Marketing & Brand to deliver impactful, integrated marketing and brand activations with great results. 

You will work on strategies and campaigns that serve the objectives of all areas within SSAFA, so your expertise will help raise awareness of crucial services, recruit volunteers, support fundraising initiatives and promote understanding of SSAFA’s work. Most notably you will develop the strategic approach and activation of a new brand proposition in the Autumn. This is an incredibly important piece of work for the charity, so the role will suit somebody with experience in driving a brand previously.

You will work collaboratively and creatively with colleagues across the Fundraising, Marketing and Communications directorate, taking briefs and translating them into finalised marketing activations. Alongside the Head of Marketing & Brand you will work closely with the rest of the team, particularly the Senior Marketing Officer.

The Role

FareShare has a dynamic fundraising department that has seen incredible growth in support in an incredibly short space of time. We are now looking for a proven Supporter Retention Manager to join us as we embark on our next phase of deepening engagement with current and new supporters.

This newly created role is an integral part of the Fundraising team’s growth plans to become a £40 million income generating team.

Working closely with the Supporter Acquisition Manager, Supporter Experience Manager (Fundraising Operations) and the wider Fundraising team, the post-holder will lead on stewardship campaigns encompassing Warm Appeals, Regular Giving asks, Supporter newsletters and cross-sell campaigns across FareShare’s audiences. Line management of an Individual Giving Officer (or Assistant) may form part of the roles and responsibilities further down the line.

The role offers a fantastic opportunity for a proven Individual Giving professional to help drive innovation in supporter retention and development and make a decisive contribution to a high-performing team.

Main areas of responsibility

1.Plan and deliver the Warm Appeals programme in line with agreed budget targets and annual workplans

• Campaign manage the Cash Appeals programme at all stages, from initial planning through to supplier management and post-campaign analysis
• Develop and implement a rolling programme of Regular Giving Asks.

2.Develop and manage a seamless supporter journey and consistency of messaging from the initial touchpoint through to longer-term giving

• Work with the Supporter Acquisition Manager and the Supporter Experience Manager on planning, delivering and managing a seamless supporter journey and consistency of messaging from the point of acquisition
• Actively monitor Supporter attrition levels and implement measures to mitigate disengagement
• Hold regular catch-ups with the Supporter Acquisition Manager and the Supporter Experience Manager to optimise collaborative working across both teams
• Keep up to date on the latest trends and techniques in Supporter Stewardship and apply learnings as appropriate on retention initiatives.

3.Maximise opportunities for cross-team campaigns

• Collaborate with the wider fundraising team on new and existing income generation opportunities.

4.General duties

About this role: 

Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role plays an important part in supporting our Finance Team in delivery of SIB’s new strategy and focus.

Save the Children has an ambitious strategy, which requires us to take and manage an appropriate level of risk, often in complex environments, in order to improve the lives of the most marginalised children and communities that we work with. We are a large, complex charity and risk touches every part of the organisation and all aspects of what we do.

This is a new role within our General Counsel's Division and you will work with a wide variety of specialist teams across SCUK (e.g., Safeguarding, Legal, Health & Safety) who investigate incidents reported through SCUK's incident reporting and case management IT system (IRCM system).

You will act as the product owner for the system and will be the main point of contact with the software provider, responsible for ensuring that the system is configured and operating effectively to meet business needs and ensure that we can maximise use of the incident data.

A key objective for this new role will be to develop insightful reports and dashboards that help us analyse and monitor incident data relating to key areas of risk in SCUK's work, for example safeguarding, fraud, and health and safety. The aim will be to develop reporting and analysis that can identify trends and root causes to help us learn from incidents and improve the ways in which we respond to risks.

Key accountabilities will include:

Act as Product owner of SCUK's incident reporting and case management IT system (IRCM system):

• Responsible for the overall management of the system and ensuring that it is configured and operating effectively;
• Collaborate with specialist teams (e.g. Safeguarding, Fraud, Health & Safety) to understand business needs, gathering feedback on issues and functionality requirements, and exploring solutions and improvements;
• Manage the relationships with the ICRM software provider, SCUK technology team, and specialist teams to support the ongoing use of the system and to coordinate system updates and improvements;
• Review how we are utilising the system and the current licensing arrangements and make recommendations to optimise efficiency and cost effectiveness;
• Ensure training and user guides are available for new users and communicate system functionality updates to all users;
• Maintain high standards of data protection compliance in the configuration and use of the system through the completion and maintenance of privacy impact assessments;
• Develop mechanisms to monitor data quality for consistency and accuracy.

Incident analysis and reporting:

• Use appropriate data analytical tools such as Excel and Power BI to enable regular analysis of incident data to detect and monitor trends, including the proactive identification of emerging areas of risk and their causes;
• Develop clear and user-friendly reporting formats, such as dashboards and trend analysis, tailored to different audiences, including the Executive Leadership Team, the Audit and Risk Committee, and specialist teams;
• Convert data into actionable intelligence that enables the organisation to learn from incidents and highlights areas for improvement.
   

Reporting and case management processes:

• Monitor data quality from incident reports and liaise with specialist teams and incident reporters to ensure information is accurate and complete;
• Carry out initial triage of new incident reports, ensuring they are allocated to the correct specialist teams;
• Ensure mechanisms for reporting incidents through the IRCM system continue to meet the needs of incident reporters and specialist teams, as well as the teams managing regulator and donor reporting requirements;
• Track timely progress of cases to closure in line with agreed protocols

Stakeholder communication:

• Develop a communications plan to promote awareness around incident reporting throughout the organisation and relevant external stakeholders
• Manage the incident reporting and case management Sharepoint site and intranet pages, ensuring the provision of helpful and up to date information about incident reporting and investigation processes and procedures
• Act as focal point for promoting awareness of incident reporting as an important part of protecting people and assets, and in doing so contribute to a culture of openness and learning;
• Coordinate regular meetings for system users from specialist teams to share IRCM system knowledge and best practice, discuss common issues, trouble-shoot and monitor case management Key Performance Indicators;
• Assist with the timely completion of incident reports for institutional donors such as FCDO and other relevant external agencies/regulators

About you
You will need to be self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently, whilst also enjoying teamwork and able to work collaboratively with a diverse range of internal stakeholders across SCUK in order to understand business needs and develop appropriate solutions.

As the key point of contact for system users, providing training and guidance, and managing user access you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
