Senior Scientific Fundraiser - Philanthropy

One of these roles will work across the range of non-clinical science departments at the university and the other will have a portfolio focussed on the Department of Physics.

In these roles you will:

• Play a crucial role in ensuring that philanthropic income against the core priorities of the MPLS Division rises in a steady and sustainable manner year on year.
• Implement solicitation strategies to secure major gift support from individuals, corporates partners and trusts and foundations, often working jointly with a senior academic.
• Identify prospective donors with whom the University will aim to develop significant philanthropic relationships and build a robust prospect pipeline.
• Be able to understand academically complex projects and explain and promote them to potential, non-specialist donors.

Skills that are required to apply for these roles:

• Experience in a complex organisation and direct involvement in securing major gifts or corporate partnerships.
• An ability to think both strategically and tactically about the relations between potential donors and fundraising goals.
• An ability to provide specialist expertise in the area of major gift philanthropy, and to develop a long-term strategy for the solicitation of principal gifts.

Job Purpose:

• Contribute to hyh’s overall Fundraising strategy as a member of the Fundraising Team
• Have day to day responsibility for the Individual Giving income stream
• Manage a portfolio of existing Individual Giving supporters, providing exceptional supporter care and building relationships, stewarding and nurturing existing donors.
• Improve supporter retention and maximise donors’ lifetime value to hyh
• Manage, develop and lead on the use of hyh’s CRM effectively to segment data and make insight-led decisions. This includes developing new reports, liaising with the external CRM consultant to make improvements, writing up procedures and training members of the team in best practice.

• Develop marketing and comms materials through digital and other channels to deliver the programme.

This is a new role for Emmaus Bristol. Through our five-year-planning process we identified a new staffing

We are a multi-award-winning, creative, and innovative organisation, and the Database Officer is a role at Al-Khair Foundation, sitting within the Database team and delivering on a range of database tasks and processes utilising our Salesforce database.

We’re looking for someone who has a good working knowledge of database systems and who understands their importance to organisations like Al-Khair Foundation. We seek someone who is naturally process-driven and has a great eye for detail. You will be responsible for specific monthly processes, such as organisation income reconciliation and ongoing data uploads and cleansing for the Fundraising teams. You will also become a champion for Salesforce and understand the importance of CRM to help Al-Khair Foundation achieve our goals and provide a better service to our donors, supporters, and participants.

Your Role

Al-Khair Foundation uses Salesforce to manage relationships with our donors, supporters, and stakeholders, including recording all donations made to the organisation. Al-Khair Foundation’s Database Officer will be responsible for the monthly delivery of the income and data reconciliation processes for the Fundraising teams, which includes liaising with a wide range of external agencies and the website to successfully download and query files, update and create new supporter records on the database, process cheques and payment requests, and work closely with the Finance team to ensure all anticipated and banked income tallies correctly.

You will also work closely with colleagues in the Database team to support and maintain regular database processes, data cleansing, and other database-related functions that happen on a monthly or quarterly basis. This may include responding to and being responsible for Support Ticket queries in relation to income, data, and/or the database generally and working with external database agencies such as our web platform partners and Salesforce.

Aside from these core duties, from time to time, you may also carry out general administrative tasks on behalf of the Supporter Engagement team. This may include supporting the Supporter Care Assistant during busy periods with customer care via email and telephone and recording updates, processing invoices, and maintaining and updating team rotas and trackers.

Your Responsibilities

• Delivering the monthly data reconciliation and income reconciliation processes, which include downloading and uploading data files.
• Supporting the Fundraising teams with their monthly income recording and reconciliation.
• Liaising with external agencies and the Finance team.
• Checking for and correcting inaccuracies and updating supporter records.
• Running reports for the Fundraising and Finance teams.
• Maintaining and carrying out regular database processes, including data cleansing.
• Supporting the Database Coordinator and the Senior Data Manager to encourage best-practice use of the database across the organisation, including assisting with onboarding and new user training and being on hand for day-to-day technical support when the Database Coordinator is unavailable.
• Working with external partners (i.e., telemarketing agencies) to ensure the successful and smooth transition of data onto the database.
• Spotting and reporting database glitches and problems.
• Supporting with the ticketing system as a second point of contact in the Database team.
• Contributing to creating a culture committed to the safeguarding of children and adults and compliant with Al-Khair Foundation’s Child Safeguarding and Adults at Risk Policies.

Who You Are

To be successful, you will be:

• Someone who has experience using a Salesforce database to carry out day-to-day tasks and who understands their importance for organisations such as Al-Khair Foundation. Charity/NGO experience would be an advantage.
• Someone with excellent attention to detail and good numeracy skills.
• A great communicator who can manage a variety of stakeholder requirements and resolve requests in a timely and accurate manner.
• Able to organise your time and own workload effectively and able to work to deadlines in a busy environment.
• Able to learn new processes and systems swiftly and diligently.
• Able to work under your initiative, take instructions from others, and work well as part of a team.
• Experienced in carrying out administrative tasks and processes in an office setting, with good knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Keen to learn more about the inner workings of database management.

Who we are:

The Dalit Solidarity Network UK is a small human rights organisation working to eliminate caste-based discrimination in the UK and South Asia. Registering as an official charity in 2003, Dalit Solidarity Network UK continues to grow as an effective campaigning and advocacy organisation, working on the issue of caste discrimination in the UK and being an active player in the global movement.  Our major areas of work include documenting 'everyday casteism', building capacity of businesses to address caste-discrimination in overseas supply chains and UK operations and working with UK Higher Education Institutions to protect against caste-discrimination.

Summary of the role:

We are seeking a new Director who will be responsible for working with the Board to:

i) Develop and deliver of DSN-UK's overall strategy and objectives;

ii) Provide strategic leadership to influence the policy and practice of key stakeholders to further DSN’s vision of a ‘world without caste discrimination’;

iii) Lead overall management of DSN-UK, including management of DSN-UK staff, its finances and other resources.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Leadership and strategy

Responsible for implementing DSN-UK’s strategy through specific campaign, lobbying and advocacy activities, including development of key messages and influencing strategies. 

Maintaining partnerships and network support within the UK, with partners in South Asia and international partners.

Conducting joint advocacy at UK/EU/UN level, representing these issues at UK Government level and participating in  other joint initiatives as appropriate.

Operational Management

Responsible for the day-to-day management of DSN-UK, including key  aspects of its internal administration, particularly providing oversight of financial management, annual budgets and the preparation of regular financial and programme reports for the Board.

Fundraising:

Leading the development and implementation of a fundraising strategy for DSN-UK, preparing funding proposals and reporting to donors on project achievements.

Human Resources:

Managing one part time office administrator and appointing other staff, volunteers and consultants in consultation with the Chair.

What we are looking for in a Director:

1. A track record of successfully working at a senior level with strategic leadership and management responsibilities.

2. Ability to develop organisational strategies and translate them into plans and budgets.

3. Experience of working on issues of social justice/human rights/equality, diversity and inclusion and of campaigning for change.

4. Experience of representing an organisation to others, ranging from grass roots activists to government officials including high-level lobbying and advocacy and public speaking.

5. Experience of developing and managing budgets.

6. Proven track record and experience of fundraising from trusts, governments and corporate sources.

7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

8. Ability to plan and prioritise and keep to targets under pressure and to deadlines.

9. Willingness to travel within the UK and to work outside usual office hours if necessary.

10.  Commitment to the aims of DSN-UK and sensitivity to issues of caste, gender, race and religion and commitment to ensuring equal opportunities.

Benefits: The Director is entitled to 25 days annual leave (pro rata, not including bank holidays). Pension scheme with matched contributions of 5%. Hybrid and flexible working of 21 hours/week.

Location: Hybrid working with options for flexibility to work from home - the postholder will be expected to work from our central London office periodically, e.g. 1 day per week.
