What this position entails
We are looking for a dedicated volunteer who can provide long-term support to our charity as we prepare to relaunch our activities after a period of inactivity post-Covid.
The Volunteer Finance Lead will assist the Fundraising team and the Operational Director in creating budgets, clarifying budget limitations, preparing cash flow forecasts, and ensuring the charity has a comprehensive understanding of operational and project costs to help us secure necessary funding.
Ideal candidates should be genuinely passionate about our mission and values, work well in a team, and be able to communicate financial information clearly to those who may not have a finance background.
As a Finance Lead, your main responsibilities will include:
- Give general financial advice for projects, events and activities strategy.
- Take leadership in preparing cash flow forecasts.
- Clarifying budget limitations.
- Take leadership on producing projected budgets, outlining expected income and expenses for specific periods of the charity lifecycle, helping our charity plan our finances and allocate resources.
- Taking on leadership for producing all events/activities/projects budgets and keeping accurate reporting of post-projects income/expenses records and producing reports to the board of trustees.
- Monitoring the financial health of all our projects.
- Produce general quarterly financial reporting to management and the board of trustees, highlighting points of concern.
- Contributing to decisions regarding financial strategy for our projects.
- Understanding and reporting costs for specific areas: internal staff, delivery staff, running activities etc.
- Able to recommend improvements and implement changes on financial processes and procedures, supporting the operational team to have clarity on our financial health.
What do you need to become our Finance Lead?
Essential:
- 3+ plus experience with accounts/finance
- Fully qualified Accountant or relevant financial qualification.
- Highly experienced with budgets and cost management of projects.
- Numerate, accurate individual with strong Excel, Word, and presentation skills
- Professional approach.
- Experience of working with small teams and communicating financial information clearly to those who may not have a finance background.
- Able to work on own initiative with a conscientious approach, always looking to continuously improve processes and be dedicated to the improvement of our charity's financial processes and procedures.
As a volunteer-led charity, it’s essential for us to find someone who understands the importance of being part of our team and engaging in the growth of the charity. We can be flexible and work with you to find hours that fit ours and your schedule, working out of office hours or weekends - all help is much appreciated!
As a volunteer-led charity, we prioritise volunteers who want to become part of our team of volunteers rather than those looking for a temporary assignment. Therefore, we won’t accept applications from volunteers who cannot commit to at least 5-6 months with us.

What will you be doing?
BuDS is an independent pan-disability organisation which is not tied to Government, NHS or council contracts. Our visionary aim is to abolish disability by building a world which is Fair4All, free of the barriers which disable people. We have decided to recruit Co-Treasurers because we recognise that the role will be easier to manage if divided between two individuals.The Co-Treasurers will be Trustees of BuDS and will need to embody our values and ethos. What Does the Role Entail?
The role of Co-Treasurer is expected to involve a time commitment of around 2-3 hours per week, a combined total of 4-6 hours between the two post-holders. Meetings are kept to a minimum as all the Trustees are busy people.

Are you a proactive fundraiser and looking to support a small charity? About Access Academia
Access Academia is the charitable umbrella which was created out of the creation of the student-led publication, the Journal of Intersectional Social Justice. When Journal of Intersectional Social Justice (JISJ) was created, there were not any expectations for the project to be any more than that: a student-led academic publication. However, as it rolled on, attention for the project widened and it began to cover other topics and get involved in other realms of knowledge sharing, activism, and content creation. The creation of the seminal Access Series on the Intersections blog springboarded the idea for the JISJ to turn into something much more than a simple academic publication. Now as we have restructured the JISJ into Access Academia, we are finalising our official registration as a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) in the UK.
Our core purpose is to Make Academia More Accessible. We plan to accomplish this by many different avenues, as obviously it is a very wide-ranging goal! The main ways we plan to do this are through encouraging Open Access academia and knowledge sharing through the Access Series, expanding the themes covered on Intersections with additions such as Mental Health Mondays and Colonialism in Subject, creating accessible content across our social media platforms which encourages truthful and accurate knowledge sharing and activism, running research events to encourage students to publish and interact with academia, covering inside stories of academia, running student engagement programmes to try and make academia less of an Ivory Tower, and much more!
What is a Volunteership?
A volunteership is a unique hybrid opportunity that combines elements of volunteering and interning. Participants commit to working with a charity or nonprofit organization for a specified period of time, fulfilling a set of responsibilities and expectations. In return, they gain valuable experience, receive a letter of recommendation, and are offered LinkedIn endorsements. Additionally, they may have the chance to continue working with the charity through future hiring cycles as long as they remain a student. This experience provides both personal fulfillment through giving back to the community and professional development for future career opportunities.
Volunteership: Events & Programmes Coordinator
Duration: May to August 2025
Eligibility: Must be currently enrolled as a student
Requirements:

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate program.

Strong interest in event planning, programme coordination, and nonprofit work.

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize.

Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.

Prior experience in event planning or project coordination is a plus, but not required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Event Planning & Execution:

Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of monthly charity events. This is a minimum of 1 online event per month.

Work closely with team members to ensure events are organized efficiently, within budget, and aligned with the charity’s mission.

Help with logistics, setup, and support during events.

Manage guest lists, invitations, and event communications.

Annual Research Programme Coordination:

Support the coordination of the charity’s annual research programme. This is currently an annual programme, the Social Justice Research Fellowship, running in 2025 from June 2nd - August 8th.

Assist in organizing logistics, outreach, and scheduling for research participants.

Ensure that resources and materials are available for programme participants.

Track the progress of the programme and report on key milestones.

Contribute to planing and logistical initiatives surrounding expanding the provisions of research programmes, including brainstorming and coordination for potential new programmes.

Collaborate with internal teams and volunteers to ensure smooth event and programme execution.

Participate in regular team meetings, contributing ideas and insights.

Provide feedback and suggestions for improving the efficiency of events and programmes.

About Holding On Letting Go (HOLG):
Holding On Letting Go is a charity supporting bereaved children, young people, and their families after the loss of a loved one. We provide specialist bereavement support, training for professionals, and outreach programmes to help children navigate their grief in a safe and understanding environment.
Role Overview:
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented volunteer to support our fundraising efforts by researching funding opportunities and helping to organise grant applications. This role is ideal for someone with strong research and organisational skills who is eager to make a meaningful impact in a flexible and remote capacity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and identify grant and trust funding opportunities that align with HOLG’s mission and activities.
- Compile key information about each funding opportunity, including deadlines, eligibility criteria, application questions, and funder priorities, in a structured format.

This is an opportunity to lead the protection of the vital footpaths and rights of way network across the countryside of East Sussex and ensure walking in the natural environment is accessible to all.
You will coordinate a team of Local Footpath Wardens and will be responsible for assessing proposals affecting paths and for developing Ramblers' response to and comments on those proposals, liaising with Ramblers' central office and other stakeholders as necessary.
You will represent Ramblers' Sussex Area on rights of way issues with the local authority and at meetings and public events.
To undertake the role you will need to keep up to date with legal and policy information about paths and planning issues nationally as well as in your local area.
