About the Role
Responsibilities:
1. Provide advice and a limited casework service covering the full range of debt and money management advice, including breathing space, debt relief orders, bankruptcy, and debt management plans.

Essential Criteria

2. An understanding of the problems and issues associated with unmanageable debt, particularly energy debt, and their implications for clients and advice service provision.
3. Recent experience of providing advice to the Advice QualityStandard and/or the willingness and ability to complete full debt advice training.
4. A good understanding of the skills and techniques used in interviewing through telephone and digital advice channels.
5. The ability to understand the needs of others and to empower clients to take actionfor themselves.
6. The ability to monitor and maintain own standards, prioritise work and meet deadlines and targets.

Requirements
1. To be appointed as an Energy Debt Specialist, you will need to have knowledge and experience of complex debt casework, covering priority and non-priority debt advice, options, and insolvency solutions.
You will also need to have the Institute of Money Advisers Certificate in Money Advice Practice or MaPS Caseworker accreditation equivalent. NEA Level 3 City and Guilds Level Energy Awareness would be desirable too.
● OR for a trainee - at least 6 months’ experience of delivering excellent customer service in a regulated environment such as banking, insurance, or a contact centre.
2. Experience ofachieving performance and quality targets/KPIs.
3. Ability and willingness to undertake training and development to comply with Money and Pensions Service and Citizens Advice quality standards.
4. Effective oral and written communication skills.
5. Numerate to the level required by the tasks.
6. IT literatewith the ability to use software packages including Microsoft Office products in the provision of advice and preparation of formal written materials.

About us
The Energy Debt Specialist will provide a high-quality inbound telephone debt advice service to clients as part of our brand new Consumer Energy Debt Advice project. This project is for clients who have energy debt (amongst others) and is intended to reduce the impact of personal debt by providing them with debt solutions.

Prospectus are delighted to be working with a long-standing client to recruit a Finance Assistant. This is a remote role, with the option for hybrid working 1–2 days per week from their Edinburgh office, based just a short walk from Waverley train station.
The role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis (37.5 hours per week, though 35 hours will be considered), with a salary of £27,000 pro rata per annum.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with bookkeeping experience, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to manage finance operations in a cloud-based environment.
Role Overview
The Finance Assistant will report to the Finance Manager and play a key role in delivering day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring smooth financial operations across purchase and sales ledgers, bank reconciliations, credit control, and payment processing.
The postholder will use Sage 50 Accounts, Excel, and online banking systems, while also interacting with Beacon CRM to track and reconcile donation and grant income. You’ll support month-end and year-end processes and assist in preparation for the annual audit.
Key Responsibilities
- Process purchase ledger invoices, obtain approvals, post to Sage, and set up BACS payments
- Administer staff and freelancer expense payments
- Generate sales invoices and monitor credit control
- Perform daily/weekly bank postings using bank feeds and reconcile bank accounts regularly
- Handle credit card postings and voucher collection
- Monitor shared finance inbox and respond to staff and supplier queries
- Post donations and subscription income and notify relevant teams of grant receipts
- Support reconciliation between Sage and Beacon CRM
- Assist with Gift Aid monitoring and continuous improvement of finance processes
Candidate Profile
Essential:
- Proven experience in a similar finance assistant/bookkeeping role
- Proficiency with accounting software (ideally Sage 50), including general ledger, supplier and bank modules
- Strong MS Excel, Word, and Outlook skills
- Experience in purchase and sales ledger management
- Understanding of BACS payment processes
- Comfortable working independently and to deadlines in a remote setting
Desirable:
- Experience working in the charity or not-for-profit sector
- Knowledge of fund accounting and Gift Aid
- Part-qualified or fully qualified (e.g. AAT) or qualified by experience
- Familiarity with CRM systems such as Beacon

The post holder will be working with socially isolated individuals to identify meaningfully enriching opportunities to reduce feelings of loneliness, some of whom may have complex and challenging welfare needs, to develop actions plans and coordinate support to overcome any barriers preventing successful connection into these enriching opportunities, assisting them by identifying appropriate support from within the RAF Benevolent Fund and the wider statutory and military charity sector.
The successful candidate will have experience of working in a social welfare role supporting individuals, have strong people and relationship-building skills, as well as empathy with or understanding of the issues affecting the Armed Forces community. Individuals with a social prescribing or working aged veteran support background are encouraged to apply.
This is a community-based position working from home but covering Hampshire, Wiltshire and West Sussex, delivering both remote and face to face support. We now have an opportunity for a remote Employment Advisor to join the STEP Online team. You will be working with participants, providing high quality 1:1 advice and guidance and delivering group employability workshops, with the aim of coaching individuals and supporting them on their journey into employment that suits their previous experience and skill set.
