Brent Mencap has been passionate about a healthier and fairer Brent since 1979. We’ve developed and run successful housing, employment, health, advice, wellbeing and self-advocacy services. During austerity and Covid we diversified, successfully taking on NHS work with people with long-term health conditions. We provide social prescribing support and health and wellbeing coaching to patients for Brent GPs. In 2024-25 we helped over 18000 people. We’re a leading partner on the Brent Health Educators Programme.

Our income has substantially  increased from £382k in 19/20 to £1.71 million in 23-24. We’ve had to adapt quickly, developing and retaining a much larger staff group, using our data better and improving our marketing.

Brent Mencap offers fantastic free creative and wellbeing activities for people with a learning disability, autism and long-term health conditions. These have flourished since Covid. People love yoga, poetry, singing, gardening, Breathe and Move, self-advocacy, campaigning, awareness raising, CREATE art activities for young people, external trips and parties. Small grants, donations and our reserves fund this while we get longer term funding. Our self-advocates want us to focus on paid employment, youth services and making Brent Council use accessible information properly.

Our current finance manager has been pivotal to Brent Mencap’s recent growth, adapting to paying more people, dealing with complicated invoices, making sure we get paid promptly, being as diligent about a project budget worth 5k as our overall budget and supportive with staff  wage queries. While there is lots of data input, reconciling, processing purchase orders, the role involves real involvement in project development, monitoring with other managers and face-to-face involvement with users and staff. It’s never boring and definitely not for the faint hearted!!

As Finance Manager for Brent Mencap, you will have a key leadership position. You will be responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of our finances, ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements while ensuring our services are sustainable through sound financial planning. You will work closely with the Executive Director and Trustee Board to provide accurate insights and projections that support long-term growth and resilience.

You will play a pivotal role in reviewing and maintaining our robust finance and administrative system and procedures, managing risks and ensuring our charity finances can support delivery of our mission. People’s Palace Projects (PPP) is a research-led arts charity based at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) of Arts Council England (ACE). We develop collaborative arts-based projects with artists, activists, academics, policy advocates, and audiences to address social and climate injustices in the UK, Brazil and beyond. Over the past 28 years, PPP has gained national and international recognition for extensive work exploring the power of creative practices and partnering with marginalised communities to drive change. 

The next five years (2025-2030) will focus on expanding research supported by leadership transition, strengthening capacity, and strategic development, while maintaining core values of collaboration, inclusivity, and innovation. At this exciting moment, PPP is seeking a new General Manager (part-time) to deliver and develop the financial, administrative, and HR systems that anchor our energetic programme of arts research activity and support our committed team to flourish.

Job Description 

• Title: General Manager
• Hours of work: 22.5 hours per week (0.6FTE) 
• Salary: £43,000 FTE (£25,800 actual)
• Location: PPP office, Queen Mary University of London Mile End campus.
  • Hybrid homeworking is available, and there will be an occasional requirement to attend events or meetings elsewhere.
• Reporting to: Executive Director (ED) 
• Supervising: Administration & Finance Officer (A&FO) 
• Notice period: 3 months (either side) 

Key Objectives 

• To lead on the Financial Accounting & Management, Human Resources, and Administration functions of People’s Palace Projects (PPP), working closely with the Directors and A&FO. 

• To support the operations of PPP’s Board of Trustees, including managing the business planning process. 

• To manage statistical monitoring and funder reporting. 

• To contribute to PPP’s overall strategic development as a member of the Governance Group (senior management team).

DPP is recruiting a Fundraising Manager to lead on major donor and regular giving, as well as organise events. This is a new role within our team and would be well-suited to a fundraiser that is looking for a new challenge and to bring their experience and ideas to a small, passionate team. 

About the Role

We’re looking for a dynamic and experienced Therapy Service Manager (Job Share) to co-lead our passionate therapy team at Headway East London. The Therapy Service Manager is responsible for leading the therapy team to plan and deliver an excellent service which empowers our community of brain injury survivors. This role is a job share and covers the following aspects of the Headway East London Therapy Service: Enfield Brain Injury Service (Enfield) and our Hackney-based Day Service.

As Therapy Service Manager, you will lead the delivery of therapy services within both the Day Service and Enfield, ensuring high standards, consistency, and a strong sense of purpose across the team. You will play a vital role in the growth and development of the therapy offer across all of Headway East London, working closely with your job share partner and the Director of Services (Clinical Lead) to shape and expand our provision.

This is a unique opportunity for someone with strong clinical leadership and strategic planning skills to help shape the future of our therapy services.

We are looking for someone who brings: 

• Provide leadership to the therapy team to ensure the efficient delivery, quality and consistency of this service within Enfield and the Day Service.
• Manage the development of plans and strategies for the therapy team and instil a sense of collaboration, common goals and working together across the team to ensure the sustainability of the service.
• Build good relationships with stakeholders in the boroughs we serve to develop opportunities for growth and development of our services.
• Work with the Director of Services (Clinical Lead) on commissioning/tender/framework contracting arrangements with the ICS’s we serve. 
• Work with staff to ensure our members’ voices are at the centre of everything we do.
• Work with the Director of Services (Clinical Lead) and the Finance team to ensure unit costs are accurate and work to ensure full costs of the service are recovered from customers. 
• Work with the Director of Services (Clinical Lead) and the Director of Development to explore new opportunities to develop our business to generate income. 
• Assist the Director of Services (Clinical Lead) to explore and implement effective ways to evidence the outcomes of our members and the impact of our services to demonstrate our effectiveness.
