Lead Volunteer Role Description

• To update the Volunteers’ Rota from the Court diary and ensure that each Volunteer in the team and the CCSS office has a copy. Wherever possible, the Rota should be kept on a computer for updating and emailed to the rest of the team and the office. 

• Ensure sufficient numbers of Volunteers are on duty for effective and appropriate support for bereaved families and witnesses who attend the Inquests.

• To arrange and re-arrange the Rota between the Volunteers, noting any holiday or leave of absence dates.

• Ensure a finalised Rota is sent to the office at the end of each month in order for volunteer expenses to be checked and processed.

• To ensure that all the Volunteers have each other’s contact details and the Volunteer emergency contact details are included in the court file and updated when changes occur.

• To ensure monthly and yearly statistics are kept up to date and to send the Monthly Statistics to the Volunteer who collates the stats at the end of each month.

• To ensure there are sufficient Report Forms for the Volunteers’ use if collecting stats in paper format.  If alternative methods of collecting stats are used, to ensure that the team are all using the same method.

• To inform the Operations & Training Manager and the CCSS office of the need for more Volunteers or of any leavers.

• To assist with the recruitment interviews and induction of new Volunteers.

• Responsible for the support of new Volunteers and their final sign off.  Where the Lead Volunteer has concerns about the level of support required or the competency of a new Volunteer, they should refer those concerns to the Operations & Training Manager.

• To organise Volunteer team meetings (minimum of 3 meetings per year) and to inform the Operations & Training Manager and the CCSS office via email of the dates of these so they can attend if necessary/appropriate.

• To immediately refer any serious concerns raised by the Coroner or Coroner’s Officers to the CEO.

• To inform the CEO immediately of any issues or concerns that arises at the Court that might impact on the CCSS.

• To provide local information for the Helpline Court Information Sheet when requested.

• To ensure the team follow the practices of the court and work in partnership with the court staff.
• To forward any testimonials about the support provided by our volunteers to the CCSS office.

• Responsibility for maintaining the stock of CCSS leaflets.

• Organise cover for themselves when they are on holiday or need to take time off.

How can you help? 

As an Events Team Support Volunteer, you will play an important behind-thescenes role in helping our fundraising events run smoothly. You'll help create a positive experience for our supporters from the moment they sign up through to celebrating their achievements after event day. You may be asked to support with a range of activities, including but not limited to:

• Supporter communications: Making phone calls to wish participants good luck before their event, congratulate them afterwards and thank them for their incredible fundraising efforts, as well as preparing and posting good luck cards and other supporter mailings.
• Participant materials: Preparing fundraising packs, participant welcome materials and certificates, ensuring participants receive everything they need.
• Event preparation: Packing event day materials and organising and assembling cheer packs, including banners, pom-poms, signs and other supporter resources.
• Data and administration: Assisting with data entry, updating supporter records, envelope stuffing, labelling and other general administrative tasks.
• Event and team support: Assisting with event logistics in the lead-up to busy fundraising events and helping to ensure the Events Team workspace is tidy, organised and well-stocked.
• Ad hoc support: Supporting wider Events Team projects and administrative tasks, particularly during busy periods, to help keep things running smoothly.

Location and time commitment

This is an office-based volunteering role. We’re therefore looking for someone who is happy to volunteer at our Fleet, Hampshire office initially, before continuing at our new Woking office from early 2027 onwards.

During our busier spring and autumn seasons, we’re looking for a commitment of approximately two hours per week, ideally on a Wednesday. During the quieter summer and winter seasons, this would reduce to approximately two hours every two weeks. We understand that volunteers have other commitments, so we can offer some flexibility and can tailor your experience around your availability. 

Practical considerations You will receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and any specific training for the role, as well as ongoing direction from one of the Events team, who will be your key contact. We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers may be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18. About The Role

Volunteers are integral to the running of our beautiful WWT Arundel Wetland Centre, an award-winning site for accessible and inclusive tourism. Our volunteer team is friendly, motivated, and hard-working, and benefit from gaining new experiences, meeting new people, and making a difference by helping maintain our important wetland habitat.

In this role, you’ll be supporting our Marketing, Learning, and Facilities teams to stay on top of day-to-day essentials and keep organized behind the scenes. Responsibilities will include compiling the information we use to inspire visitors to support wetlands, responding quickly to supporter queries, and helping to provide information online to encourage visitors to support us and connect with nature.

The Women & Families Resource Centre (WFRC) is a registered charity based in Wolverhampton which supports, empowers and advocates for women and children. We offer short term home visits, counselling sessions, baby bank, practical & emotional One to One support, Domestic violence groups, Awareness raising workshops and drop in or chat groups to help women facing crises or challenging situations.

Purpose
The effective provision of a welcoming client administration service for WFRC.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

1. Reception

To welcome clients and other visitors in person or on the telephone.

To answer the telephone and pass on messages to other WFRC staff and volunteers as well as signpost to other organisations where appropriate.

2. To assist the Office Manager to make reservations for and be the first point of contact for WFRC’s Chat group, events & other activities. To keep a record of all interested clients and send out relevant literature.

3. To assist with the purchasing and control of domestic matters, stationery, kitchen supplies and office equipment as requested by the Office Manager.

4. To assist in general recruitment activities such as writing, placing and updating adverts and undertake administrative duties to support WFRC Services.

5. To take the post to the central post office at the end of each day.

Perinatal Support Volunteers provide one-to-one support to parents during pregnancy and up to nine months after the birth. These parents either have mental health issues or are at risk of developing them.

Perinatal Support Volunteers visit these families once a week (usually weekdays during working hours) for 2-3 hours, providing emotional support and practical help in the family’s home or local community. Support is aimed at empowering parents and building resilience beyond the support period.

The type of support Perinatal Support Volunteers provide to parents may include:

• An empathetic and non-judgemental listening ear
• Support to prepare for parenthood
• Support to build confidence in parenting skills
• Support to develop a positive relationship with their infant

No special qualifications are necessary to become a Perinatal Support Volunteer, but Home-Start volunteers are usually either parents or grandparents themselves, or people with experience of young children and family life. We particularly welcome volunteers with lived experience of perinatal mental health challenges.

SEL Mind’s Benefits Support Service is making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals facing mental health challenges in the boroughs of Bromley, Lewisham, Greenwich, Lambeth and Southwark. We empower people by providing compassionate guidance and practical assistance as they navigate the often-complex process of applying for disability benefits.

We are looking for a thoughtful, motivated and committed volunteer with good listening and communication skills to join our Benefits Support Service. You will have experience of working with people with mental health issues, either through work, volunteering or lived experience, and some knowledge of welfare benefits gained through work, volunteering or personal experience. Comprehensive training will also be provided.

The role will involve:

• Supporting clients on a one-to-one basis, either in person or over the phone, to complete Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Work Capability Assessment (WCA) forms
• Helping clients to articulate how their mental health and any related conditions impact their daily lives
• Helping clients prepare for health assessments and, where required, attending assessments with them to provide emotional support and help ensure their needs and challenges are fully heard
